I got a job! I got a job! I got a job! Woohoo!
I was seriously freaking. I took control of all our finances and made a budget. Well, even AFTER all that could be cut was cut we were still in the red $1,000 a month. (It costs us $800 a month for gas while Bs commuting, still looking for a closer position) Ive been scouring the internet for ANY job for days now. Today I was near tears because all I wanted was ANYTHING and temp places I called said they couldnt help! :'(
Well, got a call a few minutes ago and got offered a position at a new salon that opens Jan 7. Perfect timing because even if i DO need surgery I should be ok by then. She knows about the previous dancing and i even mentioned the drs and the ectopic and what im going thru right now to her last week. The owner is such a doll.
Its not the position I really want but itll be good for a the time being while i build experience and then I can look for a better position.
Im sooooo happy. I never thought $9/hr + tips would make me this happy ever. Now dancing can become fun again and be once a month to supplement and I dont have to stress about the day to day.
Just thought id share!!!

no, im just working at a crappy cuts place. Well, its full service but one of those cheap in and out places. its new, opens next month and its one block from my house (which i love). I told her im interested in either going into management or just getting experience and moving somewhere else. I didnt want to assist because when I was externing thru school and going to salons they were so mean to the assistants. I really want to work somewhere not so cheap and that takes appointments but being picky backfired. now ill take what i can get and go from there...

I interned at a Supercuts while in school... it's an excellent starting point! Really gets you used to just handling hair and working quickly yet efficiently. Like you said in an earlier post, it's taking you a step closer to where you want to be and that's so exciting!
Your so right about how many salons are mean to thier assistants. I was fortunate to find a salon that actually wanted to educate and invest in me rather than make me thier bitch... If you're ever intrested in looking into assisting again, look for a salon that implements the , it forces the owners and stylists to mentor thier assistants instead of just using them.
Seriously, I'm excited for you! You'll be awesome and you'll get a ton of expierience, too! Congratulations!

yea its called Cost Cutters - just the name makes me squirm. But its something for my resume and it a good starting point. I wont feel as bad messing up on a $15 haircut compared to a $35 one... hehe... Im going to make myself stay 3 months and go from there...

Hahaha! You should have seen me at Supercuts! $12 haircuts and I was free help... Hell yeah I tried every trick and technique I saw in hair shows on those customers!
We have Cost Cutters here in Colorado, too... it's really nice that you'll be in a full service salon. Do they have any kind of commission or climbing pay scale? I bet with all the sales skills you learn entertaining, you'll be able to sell a lot of chemical services... work that color, girl!

Re: I got a job! I got a job! I got a job! Woohoo!
Cost Cutters is brand new here. Never heard of it before. They have to open 3 in 3 years in this metro area. Heres the pay scale and all that jazz...
Wages: $9.00/HR
Personal Service
Commission: 30% commission paid on service dollar amount over $30 per hour per week. Calculated weekly, paid bi-weekly.
So - if I do over $900 worth of services in a 30 hour week I will get comission otherwise just base pay.
Personal Retail
Commission: 10% commission on all retail products sold. Calculated weekly, paid bi-weekly.
Pay periods: Bi-weekly
Benefits: Medical and dental insurance. Cost Cutters will pay $100 towards the medical insurance premium.
Benefits eligibility date: 1st of the month, following 90 day introductory period.
Holiday: Eligible for any holidays observed by Cost Cutters paid at 6 hours per day.
Vacation: Cost Cutters offers vacation to regular full-time employees based on an accrual rate of .01923 per hour worked. Accrual begins after the completion of the initial 90 days of continuous employment. Earned vacation time accrues to a maximum of 10 working days. No additional vacation will be earned until accrued vacation time is used.

Re: I got a job! I got a job! I got a job! Woohoo!
I'm totally jealous of your benefits. Mine don't kick in until 6 months of working behind the chair, my eight months of assisting doesn't count:( Vacation pay doesn't start until you become a level III stylist, which takes most people 3 years to get to... Sigh.
I bet you could totally do $900 in services in a week... Services are ala carte, right? Suggest a blowdry and color/highlights to every guest and you'll rock it. being as gorgeous as you are is definately a plus, women will want to look like you and guys will want to spend more time with you!
What a great spring board and it's nice that it's so convienient to where you live... YAY!
