diet, exercise q
Just a quick question:
I have been cutting calories (to 1200) and working out (a combination of 30 minutes of cardio and 15-20 of light strength training) 6-7 times a week. I lost a few pounds right away. And I've been doing this for maybe 2-3 weeks now.
But this morning I jumped on the scale and saw that I had gained a pound!
WHAT?!
I know that muscle weighs more than fat, blah blah. But how long will it be before I start seeing some results on the scale?! I'm becoming really discouraged...
Thanks in advance!

Re: diet, exercise q
The scale is a very skewed guideline for weight loss. It doesn't measure muscle to fat ratio or bone density. Just measures everything together.
Grab yourself a tape measure and keep track that way. Even when you gain weight from muscle you'll be leaner thus the muscle taking up less space.

My weight fluctuates throughout the day. Sometimes I wake up and weigh 113, and then I weight 116 later. That doesn't mean we've actually gained "fat" weight. To gain weight, I'm pretty sure that you have to consume 3500 calories extra. Instead, I think it's water weight...could be muscle, also, in your case.

Measuring tapes are the best choice when you are trying to get smaller. The scale fluctuates far too much. Try not to think about weight-think about SIZE instead. are you getting smaller all around?
A person can weigh 120 lbs and be a size two, as can a person who weighs 100 lbs. It all depends on your build and the amount of fat v. muscle.
