I think that I have an audtion....?
/:O /:O /:O
so on monday i went down to the bustop and asked if i could in for an audtion. the lady behind the bar told me that i should just stop in on wednesday maybe an hour or two after they opened and that i would be able to audition then. it felt a little bit soon to me but that was just me being nervous really. i have the clothes and shoes, my body looks okay, i have the makeup down, and i am buddy-buddy with several of the dancers there at this point.
totally prepared.
so last night i go back to the bustop to do a little bit more research and to also have a couple of drinks, since my family - with whom i am staying through the winter - was getting on my nerves. the bartender from monday night later approaches me and it turns out she is also one of the dayshift dancers for tuesday. she brings me over to the bar and apparently she had it wrong, i am actually supposed to fill out an application and then if the club wants to audition me the manager will give me a phone call and schedule an audition then.
okay whatever.
i do not think they were trying to complicate things or give me any kind of blowoff or whatever. everyone was real nice after all, and they took my drivers license and evevrything and asked if i was living in colorado since my license is from massachusetts and not colorado. but i hate any kind of situation where i just need to wait for a call from any kind of manager. i would much rather just meet with a manager face to face and charm my way into work (or an audition in this case) since that is what i am good at.
so now i am waiting for a phone call i suppose. but both women also told me that auditions usually happen on saturday night, which is their amateur night there. so even if i do not get a phone call i think i will go down to the amateur night anyway and dance, and then be all "hey, so i just wanted to follow up on my application with management if that is okay..." or something like that.
i hate waiting for phones to ring. yeeee...
(also, one of the dancers came up to me and was all friendly and asked me right off the bat if i was auditioning. i told her that i was hoping to, and she told me that she thought they were going to audition me that night. damn near gave me a heart attack, what with me in flat shoes and overalls and stuff like that. she was wrong, thank goodness...!!! i love my grey sportsbra and everything but what i wear benetah my clothes day to day is not exactly sexy)
(and the nightshift men were total jerks to me that night too... woah... the dayshift male staff are significantly friendlier, lemme tell you what, except for this older guy bartender who was pleasant)
Re: I think that I have an audtion....?
Um, Id advise if youre wanting a job to not even go in to "hang out" without being dressed to the 10s
Re: I think that I have an audtion....?
It is colorado. It is hard to dress to the nines without getting frostbite, mmmhmm. Even their cocktail girls are just wearing bluejeans, t-shirts and real heavy coats. My own clothes are pretty punk rawk and all that - with good makeup and good hair - so I figure as long as I am more dressed up than the cocktailers and bar staff I am probably okay in the casual outfit department. It was my undergarments I was referring too as being not that sexy, just plain grey cotton.
:)
Re: I think that I have an audtion....?
well, this isnt like a real job, where "following up" with an application would be normal. honestly usually when they say they'll call you if they want you to audition it isnt a good sign.
and be careful of being "buddy buddy" with the dancers. are you spending money when youre hanging out there? we dont like when people come in just to hang out. especially since its turning into a regular thing. you arent there to make friends. trusting these girls youre "buddy buddy" with might bite you in the ass.
Re: I think that I have an audtion....?
course i am spending money. i do professional domme work (part of why i want to dance is so i can call it quites on the session work) and i get semi-regular work as a circus entertainer so i usually have something i can leave behind as far as cash goes. i make comparable money with my session work when i actually have a session but the problem is that it is infrequent so i am not making money as often as i would like to, and as we say in the carnivals: GTFM, or get the fucking money. and i am trying to save up to buy a circus tent, some professionally painted banners, and some other things so the more frequently i can GTFM the better.
i think i was actually guiltie of spending way more than i honestly should have.
that and the bartenders pour my drinks exactly the way i like them which seems to be rare for both boulder and longmont. three quarters jaegermeister, one quarter cranberry. seriously good stuff, just like cough medicine. so the two times i was there i was buying from the bar, tipping two dollars on the drink, and between five and ten per song. that being said it is only the dayshift girls who were particularly friendsome. they do not have to sell lap dances because the room for that is closed until the evening shift begins, so there is no hustling according to the women i spoke with. just tips at the stage.
and by buddy-buddy i pretty much just meant that we talked about real stuff and actually had real conversations, talked about the bars we like to frequent in the area and the weather and smoke breaks and children, previous shitty day jobs and things like that. i took a snowball to the face at one point, which absolutely destroyed my cigarette but i had a full pack so whatever. it was fun and the dayshift people are all super nice.
i will keep that in mind though. i know from every other job that i have worked that covering my ass is always some kind of necessity, and one of the girls from the dayshift told me that there is too much shit-talking and backstabbing and stuff that goes on there. merci beaucoup. though i do prefer to at least err a little bit on the side of trust when i sense the luxury of being able to do so.
:)
Re: I think that I have an audtion....?
Ive always gotten hired on the spot. Never been told to wait for a call or to come back later....
Re: I think that I have an audtion....?
yeah. i have a sense that it is not a good sign. had that sense -as- i was filling out the application thinger. i mean, they do have an actual application and everything, and they did ask for my ID and so forth. which seems like an overly complicated and chickenshit way to blow somebody off though if that is all it is about, so i am gonna give it like two or three days till i consider it a lost cause or whatever. it has put me in something of a mood though. woo.
Re: I think that I have an audtion....?
Ive also filled out applications at all those places. They need your information on file. Sorry, I dont want to make you feel bad. Its just in my experience. Some places may be different
Re: I think that I have an audtion....?
Yeah.
Like I said, gonna give it a day or two but if nothing then... well... whatever.
Re: I think that I have an audtion....?
Just go back in and talk to the manager. How can they tell if they want to hire you by looking at a piece of paper? They need to see you... the hiring process is looks not a resume...

 Seconded.
(This is totally off-topic, but Rebecca, what kind of circus work do you do? Aerial hoop, silks and cloud swing here. ;) )
Re: I think that I have an audtion....?
(awesome, picaresque! i do sideshow stuff. glass eating and glass dancing)
Re: I think that I have an audtion....?
maybe you could try out for shotguns?
Re: I think that I have an audtion....?
it might be worth a shot...
oh... pun...
with all the snow on the ground i would like to stay as local as possible though. it turns out some stripclub opened a week ago in boulder but nobody knew about it because they were all hush hush about it. club nitro or somesuch. so i think i might check that out.
i need woooork...
Re: I think that I have an audtion....?
But if nobody knows about it how good can the money be. If no one knows, no one will go...
But good luck!
Re: I think that I have an audtion....?
well i mean now lots of people probably know about it. the fact that a second stripclub opened in boulder (a city which kind of hates stripping) was a big enough deal that it made the evening news. everybody is all "concerned" and making a big deal out of it or something. heh heh... puritannical twits.
Re: I think that I have an audtion....?
Both times I've gotten a job at a club, I called ahead, asked when the managers would be in, then just asked for them at the door. Go back, explain your interest, and they audition you right there. Last job I didn't even audition, she just asked me to open my coat and show an outline of my body, then asked when I could start.
The call-back is not a good sign. :(
Re: I think that I have an audtion....?
yeah.
having heard nothing that club is bust. but whatever. i will just keep looking, and take the advice on how to handle future situations. calling ahead and asking for the manager definitely seems like the right plan this time around.
oof.
Re: I think that I have an audtion....?
When I went to the bus stop I just called as I was driving over and asked if I could audition. They said yes, I showed up, filled stuff out and they copied my ID, and then I worked. It was really shitty money tho, and the owner (who's rarely there, luckily) was an asshole.
They probably want to keep you as a customer. You can't be both, yanno. Plus it's a bad season for stripper money and they might be reluctant to stretch the money even thinner.

First club I auditioned at seemed pretty professional, even though it was a tiny blue-collar joint, and they had me fill out an app, called me a few days later for an audition, and hired me on the spot. Other clubs just have you audition right away if it's slow there, or wait for amateur night after you fill out an app.
