Inappropriate music for particular dancers
I'm sure the DJs out there will appreciate this.
There are certain songs that should never be played for certain dancers.
I have a dancer I am working with now who does this ridiculous hopping thing, especially to faster music. She will also routinely flip her lower legs out to the side, in as graceless a fashion as imaginable. Words cannot describe how bad it looks. When she first started I tried pulling her friends aside and begging them to diplomatically tell her to stop hopping. To no avail, alas.
She isn't really unattractive, but the sight is as unappealing as you can imagine--and I have worked with some very bad dancers, trust me. I literally flinch away if I happen to accidentally see it. I am forced to put the best looking dancers on rotation with her to keep the guys from running away from the tiprail.
Consequently, even though I know she likes faster dance music, and we aren't allowed to play slow music especially on weekends or when it's busy, I play the slowest possible music, to keep her from hopping around!
Then there's the girls with huge asses who ask me to play "I Like Big Butts". WTF??

Re: Inappropriate music for particular dancers
One girl at a club i worked at, she was definitely a newb. She dance so horribly. she was so cute and so sweet tho. her outfits were also terrible. Not matching, Not thong put over fishnets. with knee high boots. It looked like an 80's workout video with a twist today modern gogo dancer. She would dance irractically on stage. turn her back the the audience, she do a full body shimmy with her arms in the air. it was so bad but she was trying so hard. She always danced too fast. it was so terrible that it was sort of almost vcute, in a scary way.

Re: Inappropriate music for particular dancers
Yeah it does seem ridiculous that no attempt is ever made by management to train or coach new dancers. You have a stage, a show, dancers performing up there--the purpose of which is to entertain the customers, stimulate them so that they spend more money in the club, tip the dancers, buy more drinks, and hopefully take the dancers to VIP when they get offstage.
But not one club I have ever worked in does anything at all to help new girls! It would seem the most logical thing to do, but no one ever does it.
-
Re: Inappropriate music for particular dancers
^^^^ Have you ever notice adds for club in papers and online and they also sometime mention that they will train them... but never do.

Re: Inappropriate music for particular dancers
my first thought when I saw this thread was Do not play fat bottom girls for a plump girl
-
Re: Inappropriate music for particular dancers
Meh.
I say let the dudes run away from her. She'll be forced to reevaluate her stage show and hopefully do something less hoppy and leg-throwy about it.
That's just me though, I'm not working for her tips...and I'm a grump.

Re: Inappropriate music for particular dancers
I think it's strange when girls WANT to dance to any weird songs. By weird I mean Weird Al Yankovich songs. I don't understand why you would want to dance to a song with lyrics like: (<--hyperlinked to the song) What message does that send to the customers? And the girl who likes do dance to it is just completely .. pitiful. And that makes it worse. And it can be funny when someone wants "White and Nerdy" just because it's so funny and the crowd can sometimes appreciate it. But still, I'm all about trying to be the freaking hottest I can be onstage. I can handle jokes and shit, but the music makes for the whole atmosphere.

Joke songs need to be handled with extreme care. There are joke songs that are still sexy, and it's way fucking better to use them of course.
You are pretty much on the money here. But what you have to understand is that some of these women can drive away your potential customers as well. Having too many unattractive/clumsy dancers will reduce your customer base, or ensure the geek factor increases substantially. Or worst of all, both.
In that sense, when I am forced to brutally pair up the worst, least attractive dancers with the hottest ones in the club, I might be making them (the hot ones) work a little harder in certain circumstances. But then of course by contrast they look even better, and the smart ones understand it generally pays to do it this way.
What I also hate is when someone who isn't sexy at all asks to dance to something really hot. I can't do it anymore, seriously.
Or there was one dancer in Daytona I remember quite well--she loved sensuous girly techno, one of my favorite genres. She wasn't bad looking, like the girl in the OP, but she would get this ecstatic trance thing going on "Whee, look at me, I'm a pretty butterfly!"
Only she wasn't. She looked like an idiot, and the more she got into it, the worse she looked, lol. I finally fixed it by playing Chevelle and stuff like that for her, and she lookd good!

Re: Inappropriate music for particular dancers
^I will dance to . And the lyrics to that song are ridiculous and silly, but it works somehow..

Re: Inappropriate music for particular dancers
Well yeah I like that. That would have kicked ass at my last club especially, lol!

Think about how much shite people get when they try to help someone on here...that and the fact most newbs don't listen anyway make trying to "help" them a losing proposition...sad but true. ^^^ Nice PCQ with the BHG...had custies PAY big jing for dancers to play that and other BHG songs....of course was considered a jerk for doing it but at $100+ a song for the dancer....I would rather be seen as a jerk than a broke idiot!!;)

Re: Inappropriate music for particular dancers
Hmmm, it appears that we have a new DJ member here, lol!
Good point. I still try to help the newbies that want and merit it, though, they can be the most fun. but yeah sometimes there's not much you can do, as well.

^^^Me thinks Mr. D is "on point" as always!!

i would be pissed at you. if i am tipping you out, you dont get to decide what looks good. im sorry, but that would make me so angry. if i dont make money dancing a certain way or to certain music, thats my problem. if my dj thought i looked better dancing to hip hop than rock and decided thats what he was going to play for me, i wouldnt be putting on a show that i felt comfortable with anyway.
you dont get to decide how a girl should dance. sucks for her if it looks bad but you should still play what she requests. (unless its something crazy against club rules or something)

What is PCQ? I'm assuming BHG=Bloodhound Gang?
The custy will give you a $100 tip to play a certain song? Sounds like a good deal for me, unless the club is packed and the song would bring down the mood.
Like, would you accept $100 on a Friday night to play Celine Dion? :-[ Hopefully not, lol!

No, you wouldn't be pissed at me. You look good, I already know, and I really doubt you dance like an idiot, especially if you like the music. Women that look at least decent and still chase guys away from the tiprail are rare. I doubt very much you are one of them.
But the owners and managers insist that I balance out the appearance of the dancers on the list, so yeah I do get to decide what looks good, on a nightly basis.
It's my job to do that. If a dancer consistently scares guys away from the tip rail, she is doing something wrong, dancing to the wrong music, or both. It is my job to rectify the situation to the best of my ability, and that is what I will do.

but i WOULD look like an idiot dancing to some music. and if i told a dj my preference and he chose not to play that because he thought i looked better dancing to something else i would not be happy.
-
Re: Inappropriate music for particular dancers
Trust me, I don't get tipped as well as I do because play music the dancers don't like!
And at least half the music I play, that being a very conservative estimate, is not what I really like. In fact it's pretty rare I play the exact song I would choose myself at that exact moment. We are putting on a show, the dancers and I, and only an extremely unprofessional DJ would ignore the artistic inclination of a professional, attractive dancer such as yourself.
But if I run into the occasional dancer that spazzes out and makes the entire club look like idiots, fuck no I'm not playing the song, LOL!

Only at some clubs. Many clubs these days don't give the dancer complete authority over songs. Rather, the girl will pick her genre, and the DJ decides.
That wasn't a problem for me. Sure, sometimes I danced to stuff I don't care for, but stage isn't the place where money is made.

Hah! I have met you, I know what you are capable of. You are the furthest thing from a spazz, and are in fact one of those rare dancers that can pull off whatever the fuck she wants. Which is what I play for women such as yourself, unless I'll get fired instantly for it, lol....

Re: Inappropriate music for particular dancers
How about if you kindly suggest she move slower? Or mention how sexy _____ (dancer) moves all slow and sexy and that the customers love to see that?
Or you can say that to someone else while she's in earshot.

i understand that, its the fact that she likes fast music and the club doesnt even want slow music played, yet djoser said he plays the slowest music he can find for her. that just gets under my skin a little bit. if a dj played the opposite of what i asked for i wouldnt like that, thats all.
i dont really go on stage much at my club so maybe i cant relate. luckily we dont have a specific rotation and if youre doing lap dances, or busy trying to sell them, they dont make you go up.

Well I should clarify maybe--she has never once asked for fast music, but I can see when they like certain music if they start moving around on the floor to it. I've seen her do that numerous times. I watch for that like a hawk, because if a girl is a good dancer I want to play what she likes. After a while you start picking up on things like that--there's an increase in physical energy when a woman likes a song. Usually it's a very good thing, occasionally not.
Now of course, if she did ask me for fast music, I might have a problem, lol! I'm sure it has happened to me at some point in the last 8 years.

Re: Inappropriate music for particular dancers
There was one girl who liked to dance to "A lapdance is always better when the stripper cries." It was semi-funny the first time she did it. But it drove me mad and really irked me when she continued to play it. >:(
