Christian groups want to "purify" and rename I-35 "Highway of Holiness"
And no they're not complaining about potholes. Of course, if your club is along there, you might be seeing a "purity siege" sometime soon.
Isaiah 35:8-10
A highway shall be there, and a road, And it shall be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean shall not pass over it, But it shall be for others. Whoever walks the road, although a fool, Shall not go astray. No lion shall be there, Nor shall any ravenous beast go up on it; It shall not be found there. But the redeemed shall walk there, And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, And come to Zion with singing, With everlasting joy on their heads. They shall obtain joy and gladness, And sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
Of course, you knew we weren't going to get through this story without strip clubs and other "impure" businesses being mentioned.

You know, considering I-35 is a main artery into Mexico, and considering how much contraband and how many illegal immigrants are trafficked up that road every day, you wonder how the fundies came to this conclusion based on nothing more than a number assigned by government officials. I swear they're all on drugs.

Re: Christian groups want to "purify" and rename I-35 "Highway of Holiness"
I35 running through downtown and central Austin is considered the most dangerous stretch of road in the USA. US longhorns are told that Aggie civil engineers were sent in to build it. Its the most god-awful thing on earth.
The should rename it Satan's Skating Rink, or Lucifer's roller coaster...

Maybe after cleansing and renaming I-35, they could pray for . ::)

"Isaiah 35" and "Interstate 35" (aka I-35). It really is just way too much of a coincidence that the letter "I" and the number 35 can match up like that (rolling eyes - wow - people are stupid).

Re: Christian groups want to "purify" and rename I-35 "Highway of Holiness"

There is no NJ stretch of I-35. It goes from Texas to Minnesota, so it would be a little out of the way to run through NJ.

Also, there is an urban legend that the engineer who designed it couldn't live with himself after it was built so he committed suicide by leaping from the upper deck onto the lower.

....but before he landed into the hard concete of the lower deck, he was hit by a northbound 18 wheeler going 85 in a 55. His body was found in Waco.

I believe it should be consecrated and then dedicated to Cthulhu, in perpetuity. 'Cause fish demons need roads, too.

I was so pissed off when they renamed that.

35 in NJ is a local highway, but does have a TON of SCs on it!

Jesus, save me from your followers.

Re: Christian groups want to "purify" and rename I-35 "Highway of Holiness"
Since I've got to drive through TX on the section of I-35 that goes through Austin, what's so awful about it? I'm effing curious now!

Re: Christian groups want to "purify" and rename I-35 "Highway of Holiness"
It splits into an upper and lower deck downtown. The lower deck has entry ramps that are about five feet long and really narrow lanes. It just sucks to drive on. If you are just going through town you should be fine; stay on the upper bypass level.
-
Re: Christian groups want to "purify" and rename I-35 "Highway of Holiness"
^^Ick. I'll remember to stay on the top level then.

:) Especially when you consider the section that runs through Dallas area- there must be a half dozen clubs within a mile or 2 of inxn of I35& NW Hwy, including 2 that are visible from freeway.

Re: Christian groups want to "purify" and rename I-35 "Highway of Holiness"
That's funny. Up here in Minneapolis, we generally call I-35 "The Highway of Holes".
Especially after a hard winter.

Yes, those "ramps" are dangerous. During rush hour they really need to make the speed limit something like five miles an hour.
Oh wait.
It is de facto.

Re: Christian groups want to "purify" and rename I-35 "Highway of Holiness"
i remember a couple of years ago there was a guy who wanted to rename the prominent mountain in the bay area---mount diablo (devil mountain in spanish)---mount reagan after the president. why? because everyone who lived around mt. diablo would be going to hell because of its name.
puh-leeze.

But they wouldn't go to hell for living in the shade of 'Mt. Reagan'???

Re: Christian groups want to "purify" and rename I-35 "Highway of Holiness"
Ahh, those fine Texas off ramps where you can merge into the service road at 55 MPH. How I remember thee.
Between the double deck section of 35 in Austin and the downtown loop in Kansas City, they could probably use a few prayers.
