Have you asked your local bank to open a US$ account for you?
Here in Tucson they will open a bank account for illegals so I don't see how you would have a problem. Just call a bank and ask. If you have to go there I know Blaine has at least one bank, but all the major banks are in Bellingham.
Bank of America will love to see you ! Better hurry though and open your new account before they go bankrupt.
Bank of America needs to go bankrupt. They suck for keeping your personal info private. On the plus side, they made doing collections easy on me because of their lack of privacy policy.
I thought you meant the singing group from th late 70's/ early 80's was opening a bank (until I opened it and saw "account"). I was worried.
:sing: "I'm hot blooded, check it and see........" :sing:
Anyway, good luck.
I have a USD account at my bank, but I need an account at an actual American bank, with an American transit number n stuff.
Thanks Shasta, come to think, I'll bet the bank in Blaine is used to such requests.
Nope. I worked collections for a Canadian payday loan company that loaned exclusively to Americans and we loved it when BoA customers would default on us. All we had to do was phone up a customer's BoA branch, give their name and the last few digits of their social number and the bank teller/service rep was more then happy to tell us anything and everything we wanted to know about their account. The saddest thing is that they didn't even ask us to identify ourselves before they started spilling personal info about the account holder and the account itself.
So yeah, they can't be trusted. The dumbasses working in the branches are happy to give our YOUR personal information to anybody who calls. It's pathetic. Wells Fargo was far superior security-wise, and I say that after dealing with nearly every bank and credit union in the country at one time or another.
I don't know exactly what bank does it, but in Florida it is very easy to open a bank account because of the many snowbirds that live there this time of year... girls at work tell me they open bank accounts down there when they work there from January to April...
I'll try to find more info when I get back to work... I'm at home for the holidays right now with the family... will return to work in January.
^^^ anybody can apply for a US TIN ... which will allow that person to open a bank account at practically any US bank. However, Bank of America only requires a foreign ID and some 'proof' of local residents i.e. a rent receipt or utility bill. Given that a Mexican ID 'matricula consular' card is available to anyone with $40 with any name and address they choose to dream up, it's no wonder that B of A doesn't worry about giving out customer info ... because a fair percentage of that customer info is bogus anyhow !
So getting an ITIN: hassle. Opening a bank account at Wachovia, with a canadian passport and expired canadian learner's permit: 30 minutes, done.
:D
I used Bank of America when I was in LA for a video shoot. Alot of Canadians in LA- no problem. Wachovia also does this.
but, check with TD Canada Trust... they have US bank accounts for snowbirds etc.., they allow you to take payment in the US and the money is readily and accessible to your Cdn account if you bank with them. That is the way I'd do things if I go down there again.
**edit- ok i've just read your update that you succeeded with Wachovia... congrats**
