J.K. Rowling hints at an 8th Harry Potter....
Read all the "nothing guaranteed" here!
I'd have mixed feelings; I want to see what else she's capable of, and I don't think a new series could have the same pattern of charming "coming of age" that made HP so popular. But dammit! It's HP! How could anyone say no?

Re: J.K. Rowling hints at an 8th Harry Potter....
I definately could not say no!

Re: J.K. Rowling hints at an 8th Harry Potter....
If she does it, she should start a new series entirely. But as much as I love the HP series, I agree that the story is done and she should let it go. She doesn't want to make any Star Wars mistakes, ya know?

Re: J.K. Rowling hints at an 8th Harry Potter....
Yea, this gives me the impression that in a few years she might want to "remake the originals" a la George Lucas.

Want more Harry Potter!!!
*whines*

Re: J.K. Rowling hints at an 8th Harry Potter....
I'm just hoping her work does not become like another famous Fantsey writer that took the world by storm.... almost all of his books contain the same plot/theme, each and every time.... two boys grow up, and take different but similar paths...
I am wondering how they can sustain a Harry Potter theme park, with no new media/hype.

No, it is worse than that.... Harry Potter Expanded Universe....
/me runs and hides.
Oh and I got the first 6 for Christmas, and am 1/2 way through the third.

Re: J.K. Rowling hints at an 8th Harry Potter....
I agree too that it is done. If she were to start it up again...it would have to centralize around their kids and THEIR adventures at Hogwarts.....with Harry and Draco taking on the roles of Lucius and Dumbledore(since Harry never had a dad...Dumbledore was his biggest supporter)
Maybe Harry becomes headmaster?
I dont know if it would be as good...but I admit, I'd read it.

Re: J.K. Rowling hints at an 8th Harry Potter....
I havn't read the last book. I'll get around to it eventually. I frikin love HP but I think she should start a new series. Shes so talented, I'm sure she could captivate people with out using the words Harry and Potter.

Re: J.K. Rowling hints at an 8th Harry Potter....
what i want is a biography of severus snape. i'm still so mad that she killed him off---oh, my sevvy....
i felt that the seventh book was way too short to explain the entire story/series. there was something missing in how it just ended abruptly. i don't know what it is, though. i didn't think the story was finished.
in the meantime, fanfiction is good enough for me.

Re: J.K. Rowling hints at an 8th Harry Potter....
ok ok.. is this where i admit to my real obsession? i've not only read (reread) the 7th HP book 3x, the last 4 chapters about 7x, but i reread all of the books over the last 3 months. oh god. something is wrong. i cannot let go!! if she wrote something else, anything, i'd probably read and reread that too.
im such a loser!

Re: J.K. Rowling hints at an 8th Harry Potter....
Some things should be left alone lest they be spoiled.
That said, I think a novel about Neville's work leading the underground DA during the Occupation of Hogwarts could be a good read.
I'd just as soon NOT read about Dumbledore's adventures in the bathhouses of Hogsmeade.

Re: J.K. Rowling hints at an 8th Harry Potter....
Yeah, the only character I'd really want more stories of would be Neville.

Re: J.K. Rowling hints at an 8th Harry Potter....
If she wrote it I would read it - but I would be disappointed at the same time. Although I can see - a 10 year relationship with a project would be tough to put down. But it's been told, it's been closed and these aren't meant to go on forever. I think her promised encyclopedia of Harry Potter things and characters would be appreciated though.
I don't think she needs to do another series - but I would like another project. Another novel will do. I don't think that she is a "fantasy writer" though.
And Chrissy - those last four chapters really warranted a 7x repeated reading. I definitely extracted more th 7th time. I was all "Aha! This textually proves my hypothesis!"

Re: J.K. Rowling hints at an 8th Harry Potter....
^ lol. thanks for making me feel slightly better. but but but i just cant let go. im mid-re-re-reading the 6th book. i love looking back at snape's character and seeing the immense amount of foreshadowing she employs in her writing.

Re: J.K. Rowling hints at an 8th Harry Potter....
^in my opinion, severus snape is one of the best characters ever created in literature.

Re: J.K. Rowling hints at an 8th Harry Potter....
Well I'm on book 5 now. Just when I thought Harry was shaping up a littile in book 4 he blows it early on in book 5 again, Jenny's theory gets stronger.
Still enjoying, but yep I can see lots to support Jenny's theory. Well I better get back to it.
Still a great series.
Maybe Rowling could go and do some books about the founding of Hogwarts?
-
Re: J.K. Rowling hints at an 8th Harry Potter....
I think she needs to depart from the Hogwarts world completely and start fresh if she wants to keep writing. She'll ruin the series if she keeps futzing with it.
And yeah, cherryripeboy, Harry is a total dick in book 5. But then again, weren't we all at that age? I know I was just as cocky, hormonal, and self-absorbed when I was 15 but I grew out of it. I have to admit there's a lot to Jenny's theory though, especially in book 7.
