One Month Diet and Fitness Goals Thread!
Ok ladies, let's do this. For one month. Start small, and see if we can develop healthy lifestyle habits. I got measured today for the first time since November 1, 2007. Even though I've only worked out twice a week and have been eating like a horse, I lost a couple of pounds and 1/2% bodyfat over the holidays, yay! The workouts are kickass though. I have new goals and wanted to see who wants to share with me!
Weightloss goal: 6lbs in next month. By Feb 6, 2007. That will put me at about 119. How am I going to do it?
Physical:
3X week personal training-weights, resistance, mix it up to keep shocking the body
1X week-whatever I want: yoga, dance aerobics, hiking, etc...
Diet: 6 small meals a day, about 1350 calories. 55% carbs 25% protein 20% fat (approx.)
YMMV with the food, but I created a specific meal plan, and am carrying around a little paper journal with me to log actual intake.
Its going to be tough (the eating, not so much working out.)
Trainer told me I can definately achieve this, and probably even more, if I stick to the plan.....
Ok, everyone, share, contribute, ask questions.....

Re: One Month Diet and Fitness Goals Thread!
i dont like numbers, and i rarely weigh myself. i can tell how i'm doing based on how my clothes fit. so my only goal is to work out a minimum of 2 times a week. i dont work out regularly now, so that's going to take some effort to get into the habit.
also, no fast food. but if i go out to dinner or something, i'll eat what i feel like eating. i'm going to try and eat well but not deprive myself if i have a craving or am out or something. that will only lead to binges.
i might add more later.

Re: One Month Diet and Fitness Goals Thread!
Britt, I agree with you for the most part. However, real goals must be measurable and results-oriented.
FYI, I will not weigh myself until with my trainer. She also does my measurements with a tape and calipers too. And compares it to my previous results, etc.
Personally, I think I look fine, until I see my guy hanging out in otherwise perfectly sexy photos, lol!
And I do work with a trainer to help keep me accountable.
The 6lb goal also includes a fat-loss percentage component. If I don't lose 6 lb in one month, but I have lost 3% bodyfat and gained corresponding muscle, it will be all good too.

Re: One Month Diet and Fitness Goals Thread!
well, for me, my long term goal is to fit into my true religion jeans, my favorite pair, again. but numbers won't help me with that, because i weigh about the same as i did when they fit, i'm just more fat than muscle now!

Quantification is only way to know if you have achieved most long-term goals.
I have a pair of size 1 jeans that I used to fit into and would love to fit in them again. But no more stripping and no more yayo-means I need to find a healthier way to get back into them!
Again, its not just about a weight number. I DO NOT weigh myself. The weight loss figure is based on long-term goals, past performance, weekly eating/excercise committments, etc. If you don't see the value of this, then this isn't the thread for you.

Re: One Month Diet and Fitness Goals Thread!
...i said my goals were to work out twice a week minimum and start revamping my eating habits. you said "develop healthy lifestyle habits." sorry to butt into your thread since my goals aren't good enough for you ::)

Re: One Month Diet and Fitness Goals Thread!
I'm in and back on the wagon. I fell off sometime mid December. My goals are to track what I'm eating again (I like the journal idea) and to do 20-30 minutes of cardio 5 times a week, and weight training 2-3 times a week. Specific goals are to lose 3 inches around my waist and to be able to do one regular pushup. I should be able to get close to that in one month. I'll start tomorrow, scouts honor!

Re: One Month Diet and Fitness Goals Thread!
oh yeah, I'm giving up booze for the month too! No beer, no wine, nada!

Good luck with your goals. For whatever reason, my dumb ass missed the part about the 2x a week workout. My mistake, I apologize.

Re: One Month Diet and Fitness Goals Thread!
I'm in with this too! Starting an entire clean diet and exercise program for one month from tomorrow the 9th until the 9th of February.
Diet will involve cutting out all white foods (bread, white pasta white rice etc) and focusing on eating wholegrain products instead, lots of veggies and fruits and minimal added sugar.
Exercise will be at least 30 minutes a day of cardio plus weights 3 times a week.
Although I won't weight/measure myself either (I've had ED problems in the past and tracking my own weight is a trigger). My ultimate goal is to fit into a pair of Lee jeans that I haven't worn since before christmas and just improve overall energy levels and feel healthier.

Re: One Month Diet and Fitness Goals Thread!
Yay! I need to do this...badly...(I say as I drink my 12397538 calorie mocha)
Fitness
-Minimum Goal: Capoeira M W Sat, Pilates T Th F
-Ideal Goal: Capoeira MWFS, Bikram Yoga T Th Sat or Sun, Pilates if I miss either class (I'm planning on trying Bikram this week, if I totally hate it, I'll replace it with Pilates)
Diet
-I'm currently trying to eat 6 small meals a day, all home-cooked, no eating out, but it doesn't seem to be working very well with my schedule. So, I want to eat at least 4-5 times a day, small meals/snacks.
I would like to lose 10lbs, but the weight isn't important to me as long as I can fit back into my size 3's (my size 5's are starting to get tight).
I'd like to lose 3 inches off my waist and hips overall, though I doubt that's possible in a month.
-
Re: One Month Diet and Fitness Goals Thread!
I wonder, how many calories a day should we consume? 1200? And what's a good snack to have before a workout?
-
Re: One Month Diet and Fitness Goals Thread!
1200-1600 depending on your weight loss goals and activity level. The more you workout, the more you'll need.
My trainer always told me a protein shake or bar was a good before-workout snack, but make sure whatever you eat to do it at least an hour before you work out, or you'll be hatin life.
-
Re: One Month Diet and Fitness Goals Thread!
And eat within 30 minutes of the workout! Preferably something like a protein shake and some fruit! My trainer wants me to get a whey-based protein shake but I'm not spending $10+ on a product if I won't use it.
A few years ago I had a great soy protein shake that I used to put in smoothies all the time. I don't really have a lot of time to make them these days, unless I do it the night before. And I am trying to be realistic about what I can accomplish.
Hopefully, if I can get into a healthy lifestyle in general, I can become that person that cooks the week's meals on Sunday......

Re: One Month Diet and Fitness Goals Thread!
ok I know I probably sound like a broken record but I love spirutein protein shakes! They're so goddam delicious! :yummy:

Re: One Month Diet and Fitness Goals Thread!
I was hoping someone would start this thread. I was too distracted during the holidays to take part in the fit by December challenge but I'm looking forward to fixing some bad habits in Jan/Feb.
Weightloss goal: 10lbs. I lost about 20lbs between June and Sept this summer and now I'm stuck. I lost it all due to training myself to eat well and know when I was really hungry. I did it without any exercise besides dancing at work either.
Fitness goal: Exercise anyway I can (I'm on the road) at least 6 days out of the week for an hour. I bring my own 8lb weights and try to follow the Body Sculpting Bible for Women workout
Diet: Well, this is tricky. I'm stuck eating mostly protein bars/shakes/veggie snacks in my cooler so I'm good at small meals and grazing. Breakfast kills me though. I'm sure I eat like 500 calories or more. I always wake up famished and hit a Ma and Pa waffle house type place with the rest of my tour group. I need to learn to just order eggs and toast and wait the hunger out. I'm not sure how else to prune my diet. I'm scared of diet pills since I get super jittery with even those 5 hour energy shots.
My biggest goal for this month is to find reliable nutrition information. I hear so much discussion over how much protein I really should be eating. I've heard sources say anywhere from 50grams for my height to around 150grams. I find it really hard to find nutritional information that works well for someone my size. (I'm 5' and 105lbs).

Re: One Month Diet and Fitness Goals Thread!
BTW, has anyone actually had good luck with a food log? I'm thinking about starting one but I'm not sure I'll remember to use it unless I think its super amazingly worthwhile.
-
Re: One Month Diet and Fitness Goals Thread!
I have a food log. My trainer gave it to me, second one. I didn't do so well with it. But I have a plan, with several variations, that I have printed out and keep in my purse. Along with the log, a mini-notepad. I'm much more likely to jot down my eating than make the effort to enter it in the computer.
Its hard to keep up though, especially after a busy day.
AK, is another 10lb of weighloss going to be a good idea for you? Sorry to be nosy. I don't know you build, but that seems like a healthy weight for your height.
My biggest problem: measuring stuff out, and making sure I actually eat the "serving size." Even with healthy things like fruits, I will eat an entire bag of cherries. Rule of thumb: eat a handful as a snack, no more.
Ooooooor, we could log our food here? Or in another thread? Similar to the last one? Unfortunately, too much ED around here though. I don't want it to be a big deal, I'm just hoping to be in good shape and have at least one good habit. :)

Re: One Month Diet and Fitness Goals Thread!
I'm soo in!!
My current stats:
136lbs
25% body fat
Goal: 18% body fat
125lbs
goal for this month:
Get as close as possible
Plan:
I have been keeping a journal of what I eat. I make sure to eat a healthy breakfst each morning. Snacking less. Makign healthier meal chioces. No junk food.
Cardio 5 days a week, strength 3.
1 hour of cardio on off days, 30 minutes on strength days.
My cardio is gonna be a mix of treadmill, eliptical, and long walks with my puppy!
Strength is mostly body weight exercises, with a few machines and some pilates. I hired a trainer for 2 days a week for a half hour each session. He is really good, and is allowing me to pay as I go, $20 a session.
Also focusing on stretching and flexability.
Biggest problem area: My ass.
I'm excited to be started getting more fit. I have a photoshoot today, my first since last May. I definately noticed some extra chunk, and was not happy with the wya my body looked. Thank god for photoshop. And the photog, who thought I looked good and paid me anyway ;)

Re: One Month Diet and Fitness Goals Thread!
I do have a very tiny frame. Most of the women in my family are about 5' and 95-100lbs. Its just where our bodies tend to settle in as being comfortable.
I'm hoping to gain more muscle weight though. I want Dita's body. I'm really not into the Kate Moss super waif thing but I like a toned, sculpted ballerina look. I'm am bad about estimating what I'll look like at what weight. I'm surprised it only took a 20lb loss to get me here (I was thinking 30). I think I may be happy with 5lbs and lot of toning.
I bought a fast food calorie counter book a few days ago so I can help decide what I want to eat when I'm travelling. It includes quite a few snack type items as well. I'm really non-creative when it comes to meals so I love meal planners that I find in like Women's Health or Oxygen mags. I'm wondering if there are any great sites out there with a bunch of meal plans for different calorie requirements on them.

Re: One Month Diet and Fitness Goals Thread!
I'm in. I'm currently 145 lbs, and would like to get back down to 130lbs by the end of the month. Specifically I would like to get down to 135 by the 27th of January.
To do this I plan on cutting out alcohol, ditching the icecream biscuits and chocolate for the rest of the month, upping my vege intake (I don't eat meat) and trying to work 5 nights a week doing stage 3+ times a night.
Hopefully by the end I'll be fitter, richer, slimmer and have better skin.

Re: One Month Diet and Fitness Goals Thread!
I'm in!!
I'm re-starting my Body-For-Life routine; this always works really well for me. It's scheduled one day upper body (weights); next day 20 min cardio, next day lower body(weights); and rotates like that, with every seventh day a 'free' day, where you can do nothing and eat whatever you want. I like it because even on the weight days, it's timed down to the min.; and I have to use a stopwatch (lift weights, wait an EVEN min. in between each set); so the time just flies by for me..I'm never in there more than 46-47 min.
I am not weighing myself. My problem areas are my stomach/sides (muffin tops, slightly) firmness all over, I want to lift my butt, and tone my legs. I don't think I have a lot of actual weight to lose, just some firming and toning, and to slim up my stomach a bit. I need to increase my endurance some also - I have a feeling if I were to attempt a busy night at the club I would lose it halfway through.
Anyway, I can't start until tommorrow night when husband gets home, but I am looking foreward to doing this. Every step is a step towards my BA body...
I'm also not really on a 'diet' as such, I'm just being careful to not eat fried and greasy stuff, and not a lot of extra bread and pasta, etc. Lots of veggies and grilled chicken and water. It's hard for me to cut down on soda, but I'm doing pretty well at it.
Good luck to you all!

Re: One Month Diet and Fitness Goals Thread!
Me and Boyfriend are doing a 'healthy eating' thing together, me maintaining my weight and possibly toning up a bit more, him losing a little weight. We're using TheDailyPlate.com to help us out. We're learning all kinds of fun things, like how Olive Garden is a huge diet buster.
We bought a scale. Neither of us have used a scale in our homes, so this is foreign to us. I won't be posting numbers because of their sensitivity to some of our members. He just hopes to get back into a normal, healthy range for his type. As of now, he is overweight.

Re: One Month Diet and Fitness Goals Thread!
me too me too!
fitness:
- tighten my gut up! argh! pilates type things, leglifts, crunches.
- strengthen arms. pullups, pushups, weights.
- stretch legs. i want to b able to drop into the splits again by february 1st.
- 4x a week for at least 1/2 hour each time.... its pointless unless i warm up and katrine reminded me about varying routines so your body doesnt adjust. i think this is a doable goal, minimum 2 hours out of 168 doesnt sound like much.
food:
- more fresh fruits & veggies. this is so hard during the winter. :( but there's nothing like raw food.
- water, juice, milk, caffiene free tea. i wont deny myself the occasional jones soda, chocolate milk or vanilla latte freezy shake tho. (mmm freezy shake) all other crap-drinks are out though.
werk:
- dance two weekends this month, try to net at least $1000..this is the slow season so i'm trying to be reasonable. also keep records of dancing moneys even if its depressing. especially the tipouts & house fees totals. eegh.
- finish projects w/loose ends and meet my deadlines.
mind/sanity:
- manage my time better so i can accomplish this...
- if i don't by the end of the month, i wont beat myself up. we have a whole year for these things!!
good luck everybody! i should subscribe to this thread... i dont even think i know how to do that. o.O
-
Re: One Month Diet and Fitness Goals Thread!
also i am totally guilty of eating entire bags of cherries....especially after a long winter. it is like manna from heaven. better than an entire bag of doritos..one must always choose the lesser of two evils.
baby just fell asleep so i'm gonna work out for a half hour and then eat something reasonable and then write my to do list. yay!
