Re: I know that cats are nocturnal, but can anything be done?
About a month ago a little kitten adopted me. I didn't want her at first (I'm allergic) but it was so cold outside that I let her stay while I put up fliers.
No one claimed her and by then she won my heart so she's mine now.
I have to be vigilant about vacuuming and dusting, I have a special shirt and blanket for when I hold her, wash my hands immediately after petting her and she is NEVER allowed in my bedroom. I'm also lucky that I have leather furniture so cat hair doesn't accumulate on the furniture as much.
I feel so bad cuz she meows constantly at night when I go to bed, the paws under the door, the works! I first gave in and went out and petted her but now I scream at her through the door and she goes away. I researched a little bit and I heard the best thing to do is ignore them when they are exhibiting negative behavior. If he's disrupting your sleep so much i would definitely put him in the garage over night from now on.
I was thinking about getting her a friend so she won't be as lonely since I'm away so much, but after hearing your guys stories, Never mind!
She doesn't scratch or poop all over or anything, she can just meow a lot when she wants attention.
Do you think kittens get lonely, will she be happy by herself? Due to my allergies, I just don't think I can have another one.
Good Luck, Kat!
I'm turning into a kitty lover myself!
Re: I know that cats are nocturnal, but can anything be done?
They don't scratch too bad. They ruined one rug, but I got cheaper ones, and scratch posts. They also do not have accidents, although Nina is still getting the hang of the domed kitty litter box, and sometimes there is a poop outside of it. I should clean it every day though, bad mommy.
Milosh and I just cuddled for a long time. He pushed his little head back into my face, and we spooned. He feels like a plush velveteen doll. I wuvs him.

Ahh, cute!
I miss my little kitty so much right now:'(
Re: I know that cats are nocturnal, but can anything be done?
The solution for me was to play with my cat before going to bed. I used a mini remote controlled car and he would go ape shit over it.
Re: I know that cats are nocturnal, but can anything be done?
Fuckers are fast asleep in my bed right now, of course! Again, bedtime isn't that bad, its early morning, when its still dark. I can't get them to sleep until my alarm clock rings.
Now THAT is what I want to train them to do. My big cat will stay in bed with me until I get up 90% of the time. Fucking kitteeeeeeeeeeens! They're so cute though.
Re: I know that cats are nocturnal, but can anything be done?
Oh, it's them waking you up that's the problem? Yeah, that's different. Most cats will try to pull this stuff when they want you to wake up and play/pet them/feed them.
I have broken every cat I have ever had of this, but sometimes it takes a while. Mostly I ignore them, which is easy since I got into the habit of sleeping with a pillow over my head years ago. If they persist I will yell at them, I have a loud and powerful voice so they get the idea.
Good luck, I sure wish I had your problem!:'(
Re: I know that cats are nocturnal, but can anything be done?
Do you feed them first thing on waking up? If you do, stop. When my kitties have the idea that me being awake means breakfast, I get woken up way too early way too often.
They're kittens, yes? Ignore it and they will grow out of it. The laundry room suggestion should work, especially if you give them clothes you've worn, to sleep on/cuddle with.
Personally, I find that all three of us sleep better together than apart. More often than not, if I have a bad dream, I wake up to find that neither cat is within arm's reach.
Re: I know that cats are nocturnal, but can anything be done?
Well if there is a problem when they are in the room with you you can try a water gun. Cats tend to learn fast when they get sprayed. As a "step up" if they are waking you up like right next to you in bed you could try binaca spray on their little schnozes. So you will have to sleep with a water gun and breath spray under your pillow for a couple of weeks.
Re: I know that cats are nocturnal, but can anything be done?
Do you think putting a towel wedged under the door might muffle their noise? My cat used to wake me up a lot cause he wanted to play so I'd lock him out of the bedroom but he'd make so much noise scratching under the door. The bath towels I've stuffed under the door are pretty frayed up, but I need my sleep! He hates being locked out (of course) so he's learning to shut the F up when I'm sleeping & hardly ever wakes me up anymore. Good luck!

Yeah if this is the case, it's probably most of your problem...

I TOTALLY do that! Ok, great tip.
They are still adolescent, but they are pretty much full grown. At least I hope they don't grow anymore. Fucker is massive!
I also prefer to sleep with all 3 of them. But only if they are going to stay still and lie in bed with me. Otherwise, they're out!
Re: I know that cats are nocturnal, but can anything be done?
Yeah, if you can make it so that there's an hour or so between wake-up and feed-kitties, and that time is filled with your morning rituals, they'll associate some other thing with "feed-kitties."
