PG rated stripping. It's more theatrical. Depending on the training of the person, money they have spent, experience and skill/talent... it can be great to very mediocre.
Why not just do a search on YouTube for Burlesque performers and performances to see what you will be in for ... esp. if the Burlesque performers can be found on YouTube.
it depends GREATLY on the company. i'm very opinionated on the subject, so i'm going to stay out of this, cept to say that.
;)
We're going to see Le Scandal. Anyone heard/seen?
I saw X Burlesque in Las Vegas and it was amazing! It does depend on the troupe, but there isn't really any nudity. It's a lot of dancing and feats of flexibility and sensuality. I hope that you get the same great experience that I did!
OK, thank goodness I'm not the only one who feels this way!!! A little sip of wine makes me feel more randy so if you drink, have a glass at the show and let your man drive you home.
At X, they were very very VERY sexy. They were twirling, doing pole tricks, touching each other, but not nude. It was more of a striptease/dance than a "hey look at my boobs" (which is what some clubs I've worked at are like).
Google is your friend.

They look entertaining! :-*
I'm going to my first show Valentine's. I'm soooo excited.
I just had a look at the website link and they look pretty good. Burlesque is like any other amature theatre, you get some really good ones and some reeeeeaaaaly bad ones. Hope you enjoy it. x
The show was entertaining but not sexy :(
Girls were ugly... both had bad cellulite and the lights were not kind to them. They both did this crazy fast ass shake that made their skin look super old... like it was about to fall right off of them.
There was a fire breather that was AWESOME though!
Well darn! That sucks. I hope you'll give burlesque shows another shot. Usually the dancers are extremely lovely.
Sexiness is not usually the 'name of the game' with Burlesque. It is more about theatrics, personality, show than sexiness. Some girls do exude it as I try to do however ultimately it is not about sexiness.
It also allows women of all sizes and varitey to "strut their stuff" so not everyone is going to be "perfect"... that's actually what I enjoy most about Burlesque.
It is about tease, theatre and all of that 'jazz'....
I only ever go to Burlesque shows to be ENTERTAINED not "turned on" ;)
I was so pissed when I missed out on Susan's performance in Austin. That would've been my first show. :-[
I do not want anyone to be offended by this, really I don't, but I saw a local show, they have a troupe here in ABQ. It was cool, they did several themed acts. It was way better than some backyard homegrown thang, professional.
ok but ALL of the dancers were fat to obese, not even a lil bit "thick". Except one, and I watched something really disturbing....they were doing musical (metal folding) chairs on rollerblades, and this girl dove AT the one in-shape girl, she completely twisted her foot, and you could tell from the looks on her face and some other girls, that they were pretty pleased, and the girl was in SO MUCH pain and trying unsuccessfully to smile through it, it was really vicious.
I had to ask myself: am I making this up? Am I "seeing what I want to see?"....no. It really happened.
And I really DID have to wonder....why are all the girls fat? It just didn't sit right with me. Instead of "celebrating every individual's beauty", it just seemed like an outlet for fat-feminism, because there was no other body type represented.
I would LOVE to see a burlesque show with sexy girls. I feel like when some things get really trendy or ___ becomes the thing to do (e.g., jello-wrestling, burlesque), it become campy and no longer sexy.
It's a bummer. I would LOVE to see a show with hot girls. But I've noticed that increasingly the girls are more campy than they are sexy. But maybe I'm looking in the wrong places?
This is the show I'm going to see. They look sexy to me.
I would have loved to have seen this show. And most of these women are beautiful.
I guess the idea of burlesque is open to interpretation....I think on one hand it's a way for any woman to explore her sexuality without having to take off her clothes (which might mean a great variety of body types), but for a show with tickets, I'd expect some really hot women with a LOT of dancing talent.
That's nice, but should the standard only be what you think is hot?
Burlesque performers are not strippers. They are not trying to play into a male/marketplace fantasy of the ideal nor are they trying to sell you a fucking lapdance. Again, if what you are looking for is perfect bodies, stay home.
I'm thankful for those women that most burlesque audiences are a lot more laid back than some of you.
Silly, I went to a show last night cheering on about 10 burlesque performers. They were lovely -- every single one of them. You have no idea what I consider hot. And I haven't criticized a single woman on this post, so buzz off.
You're right, everyone has their own idea of sexy, I would just think someone taking their clothes off for a living (yes, even though you are doing it artistically and theatrically, you're still stripping at the end of the day) would do some squats and tone everything up so people notice your stage show first, and not the cottage cheese on your ass.
I think ppl who are going to chastise for the "certain" opinions expressed in this thread remind me of these similar things:
--Being called "materialistic" for telling someone to be careful with your $2500 computer,
--accusing you of being "unpeaceful" when you say you miss the hustle and busyness of NYC,
--saying you are "egotistical" for saying that you have been feeling GREAT lately since you started working out and now have less fat days,
--calling someone "shallow" because they preferred a bigger dick and a nicer jawline, and someone who places more emphasis on taking care of themselves.
I don't care if I see some cottage cheese, as that's what tends to happen when ppl are overweight, but when the majority of dancers in a show are, it seems like it's not about the performance anymore, about burlesque, it's just about demanding that people see fat as beautiful. I thought we were making a feminist statement, a dance statement, a tribute to art, props, costumes, creativity, roots, all that, not a fat statement. And it's not shallow to not want to look at a room full of overweight ppl. Being overweight has become such a political statement, and imho the wrong kinds sometimes. But that's other topics of course.
I didn't say you criticized anyone, Vivacious. And I'm glad you enjoyed the show you saw. It's just wonderful that Vegas showgirls are included in what I presume are your very broad beauty standards. I don't know what you consider hot, but your previous post states that you expect it, whatever you think it is, and that's fine. But like I asked, should that be the standard? Your preference, whatever it is?
99.9% of burlesque performers in the U.S. are not doing what they do for a living. They spend more to perform than they'll ever be paid. And the majority of the audience is noticing the show rather than the cottage cheese.
Everyone's entitled to want to see what she wants to see, but to think that the focus of modern burlesque is or should be the same as stripping will ensure you probably won't enjoy it.
Or being called "boring" because you dance like a regular stripper when in a regular strip club? I'm not chastising anyone's opinion here, merely pointing out that stripper body standards are irrelevant to burlesque, much like burlesque showmanship is irrelevant in most U.S. strip clubs.
There's nothing wrong with not wanting to look at "a room full of overweight people." That's why I don't go to Wal-Mart. And people should spend their entertainment dollar and time however they want. But that's pretty much the definition of shallow, reacting solely to appearance.
Among the many positive things you mentioned, acceptance of all body types is a characteristic of modern burlesque. Now, I'm not going on some "fat-positive" track here because that's just silly, but some of the finest performers with the most beautiful routines have that cellulite that seems to so nauseate people.
Again, that's great, watch what you want. But realize that fat fucking asses are a beloved part of burlesque and hide your tender eyes accordingly.
Well, I'm just saying that when you see a show that's %100 obese (this is prob not always the case tho I'm sure) it seems like a political statement about obesity, detracting from the burlesque.
I DON'T agree that "anything that cost a ticket should have some attractive dancers in it" that's not it. It's just that the show left me with like, questions/thinking about it, (why everyone was overweight) and I can't really help that.
I said "nothing shallow about not wanting to look at a room full of fat ppl" in case anyone was like "Well what's wrong w/ a fat statement?" Well lots of things imo, but if yr gonna make one, don't do it under the "guise" of a burlesque show, that's really all. I'm sure the ladies were just genuinely doing burlesque, but I could understand if someone saw it as otherwise. I decided not to focus on that of course, and really enjoyed all the other aspects of it, and that's what ppl really should do....
You're absolutely right tho about "reacting solely to appearance", for me it wasn't solely, but certainly an obvious thing which would make ppl think about it, that's all.
