Re: Back in the saddle!!!
hehe literally!
I was wondering when you're going to take that break. Yay for doing fun stuff on your time off.
If you start coaching will you feature at the same time?
Re: Back in the saddle!!!
No, if I start coaching i'll be done dancing.
I've been trying to think of ways to get out of dancing... this may be the one.
Plus I don't think many parents would take kindly to their childs riding coach being a stripper lol.
Re: Back in the saddle!!!
What did you do? Dressage? Hunter/Jumper?
I've been dying to get back in the saddle as well. I think I'll take some semi-privates if I can get the money together. It's so expensive in NJ!
Re: Back in the saddle!!!
You could teach them pole tricks after class. Never too young to be a stripper. jk:joke:
Hmm this sounds like you. You've always posted how much you loved riding and horses. It'll be great to do something you've loved since you were young and get paid for it.
Re: Back in the saddle!!!
On congrats!
I've been dying to get back into it too. Unfortunately I just don't have the time anymore. I really want to adopt a rescue horse and ride again... *sigh*
Make sure to keep us updated, there are tons of us horsey people on here!

I did three day eventing. God I miss it... I had the quickest cutest niftiest quarter horse mare I competed in preliminary level eventing with. She was built solid like a quarter horse but had the agility and speed of a thoroughbred(but there was no thoroughbred at all in her lines, she was pure 100% quarter)... she was awesome.
I also retrained thoroughbreds from the race track for re-sale as riding horses... thats kind of what made me quit riding after having so many of them throw me into walls and fences. I lost a lot of my nerve and just couldn't take it anymore. The guy I worked for was awful. He would pull them off the track and make me train them for auction re-sales. I had a two week time period to do it. So working for him made me shy away from it plus when I lost my mare I was heart broken and just couldn't do it anymore.
But now im dying to get back in the saddle. Its gonna be so fun yet so nerve wrecking lol.

That sounds like a really bad experience. There is no way a horse could be ready to go from the track to pleasure riding in two weeks. They need a ton of TLC after racing usually.
Re: Back in the saddle!!!
That's so awesome and exciting! I'm happy for you. I miss riding terribly as well.
Oh, and my dad retrains race horses to be riding horses as well! He tends to get them very cheap, on the verge of being put down, their career over, maybe a little lameness that prevents them from racing, but would be fine as a trail horse, and he retrains them and then sells them to good homes.
Re: Back in the saddle!!!
Yea!!! Bravo. I never realized how much I missed the riding until I took a year long break. It's so good to be back. Are you riding east coast this summer, or ontario?
Also, if you're brave, I have a horse I'd sell to you for $20 and a pack of cigarettes. heh. And yet, seriously. He free jumps 5'6", and his sire is a big time show jumper.
Hooray for you! You'd be an awsome coach.

Yea... I've re-trained a few race horses at another farm I worked at and we would put them out to pasture for a month or so to learn how to be a horse again and then slowly start working them into pleasure horses. Would take about 6 months total to get them ready to even consider re-sale. It was so sad and so scary. He would pump them full of bute and tranqs and make me work them. I only lasted about a month there before throwing in the towel. I almost got killed and it broke my heart to see the way he would run them down.

Is it wrong that the crazy side of me wants to take you up on that offer? LoL I seriously want him just because I have a death wish ahaha...
Im going back home to do it(New Brunswick). Im done with Ontario lol.
Re: Back in the saddle!!!
Yeah, ontario, shmario. Well if you pass through this town at some point in your travels, you can hop on Captain Crazypants and see if you want him! He's no dressage pony anyway. Happy trails!
Re: Back in the saddle!!!
yay!!! coaching anything is really rewarding IMO, says this coach. :)
kudos dahling!
Re: Back in the saddle!!!
I rode a quarter horse once who was a retired race horse. I walked him for awhile, then leaned forward and touched my heels to his flanks....and very nearly got flipped over the cantle.
Cally, I hope you get to do this. But keep in touch with us.
Re: Back in the saddle!!!
good for you cally :)
it's great to get out of dancing and do the things you really love :)
