How do you find a good financial planner?
I need to find a good financial planner but have no idea how to go about doing this. It's nerve wracking to trust someone else with my money but the 2-4 hours a day it would take to manage my own portfolio is impossible. Not to mention the research I have done just ends up in contradiction, confusion, then overwhelm.
I've had an IRA for a while now, and have also been consistently saving for a while. I know I should be investing that savings but I'm stumped as to how, and need some guidance. I know what my goals are and all the basics of investing, I just don't know how to pick funds, etc. I do some research, get baffled, then just keep putting it into savings.
I've tried asking around for a good recommendation but this is what I've found:
* People either invest in what they already know well, like real estate
* They use Fidelity or Vanguard. I have a Vanguard IRA.
* They have a financial planner and just sort of hope he/she knows what they're doing
* They don't invest at all
So, how do you find a good financial planner? Where do you go? What sort of questions do you ask?
