Re: Lars and the Real Girl
I wondered about this movie. I thought it was funny in prevues when he's sitting at the table with the doll. Never got around to seeing it. I'll have to put it on my netflix now.
Re: Lars and the Real Girl
I expected it to be funny and cute, but I was blown away. It was amazing.
Re: Lars and the Real Girl
I saw it right when it first came out! I loved it so much!
Re: Lars and the Real Girl
I'm a big fan of that Gosling boy...I will definitely make a point of seeing it
Re: Lars and the Real Girl
I thought it was pretty good, but I wasn't blown away. It did have some very touching moments though.
Re: Lars and the Real Girl
Saw it when it first came out and loved it! Especially Ryan Gosling :)
I can't wait to see it again when it comes out on dvd.
Re: Lars and the Real Girl
Oooh, it's out on DVD? Yay - I missed it in theaters but have been wanting to see it. LOVE the premise.

Re: Lars and the Real Girl
Ohh I need to go rent this! I wanted to see it but never got a chance.
Re: Lars and the Real Girl
Portland gals, it's on at the Laurelhurst, which is now my favorite place in Portland. All shows are $3 a ticket, the seats are comfy, the screen is huge, and they serve pizza and beer and wine! We got a combo of popcorn and a pint of microbrew for $5. There are so many awesome movie theaters in this town - better movie town than L.A., imagine that.
Anyway yeah, I need to buy this movie when it comes out on DVD. It started out as Todd Solondz and wound up heartwarming and beautiful. They took a goofy premise and turned it into something really clever!

Portland: is there anything it can't do? ;)
I want to see this!
Re: Lars and the Real Girl
I wasn't as warmed I think as you were. Like, I thought it was wildly funny, but I was actually pretty ambivalent; like I think there were a few ways to look at it. The part that I love explaining to people is how she slept in a different room because the doll is Catholic.
Re: Lars and the Real Girl
 I know, I loved that too. I kept waiting for the brother to fuck the doll but she remained virginal and pure. *snort*
Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I just thought it was magical.
Re: Lars and the Real Girl
something is seriously pissing me off with my phone! It didn't register your message >:( I have been wanting to go see that one. Oh well, I'll try to get a date with my bf to see it soon. I was at home watching Stardust from your recommendation that it was cute - and it was :) .

No, there is nothing Portland can't do.
Thanks, Yek! I missed this movie in first run and haven't been to the Laurelhurst in a while. I'll try to catch it before it hits DVD.

$3 a ticket??? Is this for matinees or all times? All I can say is...Wow!
My DGA friends gave me a bunch of screeners. This was one of them. I did like it, love the ensemble cast. The actress who played the girl who liked him, the blond, I have seen her work in the past in which she had played air-head, fragile, pretty/sexy blond bombshells. She did great work in this film and it was a smart move for her, underplaying her sexiness.
btw, just saw a screening of "In Bruges" written by Martain McDonnough, my favorite playwright to come along in years. It's great fun! Colin Farrell does an amazing job!
Re: Lars and the Real Girl
$3 for all shows! Although kids get into the matinees for $1 each. It's $3 per adult though, regardless of when the show is. I love the Laurelhurst!
My friend is WGA and we get to see all his screeners, LOL... gotta love those freebies. I haven't seen "In Bruges" yet but I'll look for it. Thanks for the recommendation!
