Question about poles and hand injury
I have tried to find info both online and in this forum, specifically, and either I don't know which search terms to use, or I just can't find the info, so I'd like to ask here.
I'm going to be learning to pole dance, among other aspects of exotic dance, and while I can find info about being prepared for bruises, how to stretch properly and warm up to prevent injury, I am curious as to if you experience blisters or any other problems when using the pole? Or is it even an issue?
I tend to be an enthusiast, and when I start something, I go in full-steam, and sometimes over do things. Do you even get blisters from pole dancing? I am so inexperienced, so I'm sorry if this is a silly question. I haven't spent enough time in strip clubs to ask the girls, or to know if they have callouses on their hands etc...
I guess I'd just like to know what to expect, and if there are any tips to know before starting that would be helpful, I'd appreciate it very much!

Re: Question about poles and hand injury
i danced tonight on the pole for... fifteen songs ish?
blisters: not an issue at all and i have really soft hands with no rough spots to protect me in the first place.
inside of leg bruises: ALREADY FORMING AS I TYPE THIS
as far as stretching, i just do what i learned in dance class growing up,
which is an extended version of what i was made to do
in every public school gym class ever.
i got way overzealous on the pole tonight for a newbie, i know it
but honestly if i would have stuck to the newbie routine
i would have had nothing to worry about in the first place.

My right hand has just one small callous that really isn't that bad (not as bad as my left), and it only blistered in the beginning. I guess it can be related to bruising...once your body gets used to abuse in certain spots, it toughens up those spots. It may make a difference what the pole is made of. My hands were fine for the longest time on my SS pole because skin would slide easily, but once I started at my club, which has a brass pole, I started to get callouses...assuming it's because of the friction.
hey which club do you dance at in NY. i have been wondering where a good club to start dancing would be?
Re: Question about poles and hand injury
I get bruises on inner thigh and inside of my upper arm. Sometimes my side. Be careful when you first start...I am also very ambitious when I delve into something because I want to get good fast (which is not a good thing sometimes). When I first started I had the mentality that I was going to conquer the pole the first night (the club was slow, so I could practice without customers seeing me). Basically, I was trying different pole tricks and it wasn't going so well...I continued doing the same tricks over and over. I could feel the pain and the bruising start, but my idiot ass kept doing it. Before the night was over I had a dark blue bruise on my inner thigh the size of small dinner plate (not exagerating). I can feel when bruises are coming on and I'm sure that is the way it is with most of you guys...so when I get that feeling I will either avoid the pole or avoid the tricks or moves I was doing. Just be prepared for bruising! Good luck with the pole.
