Another reason to love Oregon
This afternoon, Judge Mossman threw out a challenge to Oregon's domestic partnership law, making domestic partnerships legal almost immediately.
Sorry, no link 'cause I'm on my iPhone (no copy & paste) but I wanted to share. I figured this topic will get a largely-favorable response here... I'm pretty proud of this place, even if this ruling doesn't directly affect me. I'm just glad to see the forces of progressivism win one.
Celebrate by goin' out and loving everyone!

Too bad I live in the hairy, unwashed armpit of the state:).
I always figured that California would beat us to the punch. This is cool!

Hmm, I've been wanting to move there, for some time now. Some neighbors of mine from Wash. state say you must be able to speak/write Spanish to live in Wash. or Ore.
That's great tho, about the partnerships.

I don't think thats accurate... My sister told me there is almost no minorities around where she lives, in Hood River. Maybe your neighbors were talking about Seattle and Phx, the big cities?

Huh? I know enough spanish to hustle a dance, but that's about it. I suppose if you want to work in state children's services or something of that nature, you may need to be bi-lingual.
Maybe your family was thinking of French Canada? You can get along just fine in English, but life is easier if you speak French too. But, again, it isn't mandatory.
It is, however, required that you gain an appreciation of micro brews, organic wines and outrageously over priced coffee drinks. ;D
Re: Another reason to love Oregon
^^ Yeah, OR isn't really the most racially diverse place on earth. You do run into people that don't know English but I don't think any more so than most other states.
Anyway, cool!
Re: Another reason to love Oregon
There's a bunch of domestic partners getting domestically-partnered at the county headquarters this morning, where I work. It's kinda crazy in a good way. There's a gay rights group, Basic Rights Oregon, celebrating and acting as volunteers to help everyone get organized 'n' stuff.
How long until we can just say they're "getting married" like everyone else, and it'll be normal?
