When I alerted Paypal about this email, this was their response:
Thanks for taking an active role by reporting suspicious-looking
emails.
The email you forwarded to us is a phishing email, and our security

nice job! Wanna hear a cute story? My 11 year old was phished recently but she immediately recognized it right after it happened and she promptly changed her login info. She was so proud too when she told me the story and asked me if she did the right thing. awwwww :goodvibes:

Re: "Paypal" ID theft scam-please read!
I get one of these about once a month. I never go to paypal directly through it, but
I do check my account to make sure I wasn't a victim of fraud and then I report it to paypal. Rarely will paypal write to us anyway, so I am always wary.
Especially when they ask for info about me. They already have it at my account, so they don't need to be asking for any private info.

Thanks for posting this info!
Re: "Paypal" ID theft scam-please read!
No problem!!
If you ever have problems with paypal, go to their website directly. Never go through links in an email.
Re: "Paypal" ID theft scam-please read!
I got an email just like that recently. Oddly enough, even though it looked like it was official it came in my junk email box, any other emails I've gotten from Paypal go right into my inbox.
Re: "Paypal" ID theft scam-please read!
Yeah I get these a lot too. I just dont pay for anything I know I didnt buy!
I freaked the ffirst time though..I forget waht it was, but it was for like $500...I was PISSED thinking hubby had spent a bunch on some random car toy!! I was happy to find out it wasnt real!
Re: "Paypal" ID theft scam-please read!
IMPORTANT:
PayPal will only send email that uses the name you signed up with at the header of the letter.
Anything else is a spoof. Trash it and don't click anywhere on it. you could inadvertently download a keylogging program that secretly sends your keystrokes back to a criminal who then could extract your passwords, CCard numbers, etc. even if you typed stuff when not online.
