Did you kiss him for me?
Yes ma'am!!!! Right on his fat white belly! He sends you whiskersqueaks. ;D
wilbert! i love it!!
Here are some more pics... we're sharing an Asian chicken salad today, and after devouring the chicken he headed for the cucumber.
And just for kicks- some beets, Adiran in my helmet (he crawled in! not posed!), and Adiran checking out the sunflowers. awww.... :0)
C_C, how old is Adrian? What's the lifespan of your average pet rat? Me, I have a box turtle that'll have to be willed to my kids. Not that a turtle gives any affection.
Adiran's about 1 yr 2 months old... unfortunately, even domestic ratties don't usually live longer than 2.5-3 years at most. :'(
(and yeah, turtles can be ancient!)
I hate how they only live 3 years. Some lady at the pet store where I bought my first rat (Sidney) told me they live a thousand days. It made me unbearably sad to contemplate it, but you gotta love them anyway.
this is wilbert, cant seem to find pic of templeton
<3 <3 <3 <3 ratties!
I really should take some pics of my girls but they're always on the move which makes it so hard. All I get pictures of in the end are black and white blurs or the tip of a tail. Otherwise I get super close ups of them investigating the camera.
I had the same problem with my girls. I had 5 all at once and trying to get a picture of them while they were out running around was almost impossible! I only got a few good shots before their short lifespans took them from me. :(
I haven't been able to bring myself to get more since then... I love them so much, but the heartbreak is just more than I can take! Now I have my kitty (who, btw, loved the rats - he played with them all the time) and I'll just leave it at that.
:( he died this morning. i'm so sad. i know it's not a big deal, but he was my roommate for a year and a half... last week he got some mysterious bladder infection & was bleeding all over the cage- I took him to the vet, they prescribed some antibiotics and then he just lost interest in eating & became very lethargic... I knew he was dying yesterday as he was hardly moving around and his paws were losing color. :'( I got home from work last night and he was dead... but he was still warm, which was really sad.
Goodbye Adiran- I loved you so very much.
Oh no... Adiran... I loved that rat.
^ you might as well have been his godmother... he has sent you many ratty thanks for all his gifts! (he LOveD that log!) ;D I'm waiting a week or so and I'll probably get brothers or sisters... I'll be really lonely without anyone. His toys will be disinfected & passed on. ;)
*big smile* I'm glad I made little ol' Adiran happy. he was a good rat. May he have many logs where he is.
i love rats. i didnt know they stole stuff like ferrets do!
my ferret has a cache of tampons (not used obviously) in her hidey hole....shes a wierdo.
oh no...:grouphug:
I'm sorry CC. that's really sad. Are you going to have a burial service or do anything special?
hahah yup, something about tampons... dunno quite what.
thanks for the hugs, guys... yeah, I'm gonna "bury" (er, put... actual burying is kinda hard to do around here unless you own property) him behind some bushes in a park he was really fond of and let nature take its course.
I'm sorry, CC. We haven't had a new rattie in a couple of years since our last one, a hairless, passed on. Their short lifespan sucks.
Aww..so sorry hon. I've had to stop myself from having rodents anymore because it just breaks my heart that you dont get to have them for long.
Well..Adiran is playing with my Templeton now at Rainbow Bridge...I'm sure my baby will show him the ropes up there..he was very social!!
^ oh, I'm sorry Mr. C... and yeah- it's hard when a pet is so loving and fun and wonderful only to live such a short period.
Awww it is a big deal! He was your friend and it's always heartbreaking to lose someone you're close to. I've had a few rats in my time, some of them I had to watch die. It is really sad that they don't live longer.
The woman at the pet store where I got Sidney, my first rat, told me that they live a thousand days. How sad and weird is that?
I'm so sorry :'( ! It is always hard when you lose a pet.
I am not looking forward to the day when my time with my rat Toki comes to an end. I guess all we can do is be thankful for the happiness they bring us while they are here.
I know you're going to probably take a small break from rodent guardianship for awhile, but when you're ready you might want to consider getting a ferret (or better 2 ferrets because they get lonely.)
They're fun, wriggly like a slinky, and very affectionate and cuddly.
Plus they have a shelf-life (errr, hammock-life?) of 7-10 years.
Here's some pics to make you feel better:
also-- you might be near a ferret rescue-- so you could either
1. foster, so you don't feel all the way committed but you're still helping or
2. adopt and help a little guy while s/he's helping you!
edit: if I recall, you're in CA so you might be like "oh, it's illegal" which it is... BUT people still do have ferrets in CA.
it's just a short hop skip and a jump to Yuma AZ to buy one (or find one on craigslist in that or any of the other AZ border towns.)
a good article on the benefits and detriments to owning a ferret in CA (and by the way, I worked at a pound in CA and a ferret came in-- it wasn't destroyed. It was ferried to an AZ resuce organization.):
sorry to threadjack :(
hope you're feeling a little bit better *hugs*
