Im stuck with taxes! dont want to be a "stripper"
I want to report my taxes, but i dont want to call myself an entertainer.
Im at a dead end, i have now put away about 3-4 thousand in the bank every month for the past year and a half, and have quite a bit saved! there is no avoiding it, i HAVE to file.
I had no idea id save so much! Im happy i have the money. but i dont want to worry about my future if i file as a stripper. i just dont want it creeping up and biting me in the butt when i apply for a job or when i find a boyfriend/husband.
AND i have a baby! i dont EVER want her to know!
Is there anything else i can say i do? The shot girls are usually on the books, but could i get away with saying that? without getting in trouble or audited?
what else can i say i do for work?! anyone else in this dilema?
Re: Im stuck with taxes! dont want to be a "stripper"
I'm not sure how any future bf or your child would have access to your tax returns. :O
Re: Im stuck with taxes! dont want to be a "stripper"
You don't have to say dancer. I put entertainer, I believe, and classed it under Entertainment. I could be singing or playing at bars for all they know.
Re: Im stuck with taxes! dont want to be a "stripper"
it's possible to derive how a given class of entertainer is earning their living. i.e. it is possible to figure out what type of entertainment one does based on tax return data.
but that is perhaps a digression.
Re: Im stuck with taxes! dont want to be a "stripper"
No idea about your tax question, but damn you're doing well! What state do you dance in? Because I'm moving there!
Re: Im stuck with taxes! dont want to be a "stripper"
you can just put performance artist, or entertainer.
Re: Im stuck with taxes! dont want to be a "stripper"
^ yea i wanna be where you are!
Re: Im stuck with taxes! dont want to be a "stripper"
i just work really hard and save every penny! which now i wish i had been more careless with, because im gonna owe a boat load of taxes.
What if i want to buy a house or a car, I just feel like the whole world will know.
Re: Im stuck with taxes! dont want to be a "stripper"
WTF? Because you are saving your income AND paying taxes, now you CAN buy a house or a car. Those types of purchases are subject to credit and debt:income information.
Write in that you were a consultant. Geez, your problem is a good one to have.
If you want to defer some of your taxes from last year and not pay them, open an IRA and put $4,000 in it. Or you can even put in more if you open a SEP or I-401K.
The world isn't going to know anything you don't tell them.
Re: Im stuck with taxes! dont want to be a "stripper"
I heard that the IRS doesn't give a shit what job title you give yourself. They only care that you report your income, pay taxes on it, and have proof in the event that you are audited. If you happen to get audited, MAYBE you might have to admit that you're an "exotic entertainer" in order to convince them that some of your business deductions(stripper shoes, costumes, make-up, etc) are legit for the job. But you could put "birthday clown" on there and I don't think IRS would care. At least that's what a lot of people told me.
Re: Im stuck with taxes! dont want to be a "stripper"
^^^ generally true I'm told, but with a few glaring exceptions. IRS Job codes that correspond with 'cash' businesses get a higher level of IRS attention.
Re: Im stuck with taxes! dont want to be a "stripper"
You guys really think its unusual to make $3000-4000 a month? Geez... come to Reno. You can work just Fri/Sat nights and make that EASY!
But seriously... entertainer can mean anything. Dont worry about it and if youre going for a loan its none of their business exactly what kind of entertainer you are.
Re: Im stuck with taxes! dont want to be a "stripper"
no, they think it's unusual to SAVE that much per month out of stripperearnings...
Re: Im stuck with taxes! dont want to be a "stripper"
I'm a "freelance artist". Its true and doesn't sound weird on IRS forms considering that I'm a business. Plus it will explain large fluctuations in income.
I don't put exotic dancer for the reason melonie said. I just think people assume dancers under-report. I don't want to trigger audits unneccesarily.
Re: Im stuck with taxes! dont want to be a "stripper"
H and R block has me filed under entertainer/independent contractor

Ahhh... I guess I misread. I thought she just put all her money in the bank (3-4k) and was saving part of it...
Damn, yea, where the hell do you work to save 3-4k a month?!
Re: Im stuck with taxes! dont want to be a "stripper"
You can say what you want on your taxes- ie the clown example. But if you apply for a job and they ask for your work history you are going to have to say where/when you danced.
