Putting this here just in case anyone has had this problem before and can give me some info or tips on how to alleviate it. Wednesday night, I started feeling a little bit of pain in my lower back--left side. It shot down my left leg to the bottom of my thigh when I put pressure on it by trying to walk or stand on it. Didn't think much of it at the time and went to bed. Got up yesterday morning and it seemed fine. But as the day went on, the pain was excruciating when I put pressure on it or tried to walk on it--far worse than it was the night before. I ended up calling the Husband at work and asking if he could come home. When he got home, I was laying on my tummy on the floor in the living room, with my daughter sitting on my lower back (I had her do it--I thought it would help). I could NOT get up from the floor. It was like I was "locked" in the position I was in. My whole left side was there, but not working.
Dan helped me up by having me wrap my arms around his neck, and he supported my lower back while I kept my left leg straight. Then he pulled me up. I can't even describe how much pain that was. I tried walking on it a little, but then got extremely nauseous and I really thought I was going to throw up. I had Dan guide me to sit on the couch, and I had him get me a cold facecloth to put on my forehead. The nausea passed, thankfully. He thinks that was due to the pain.
I spent the remainder of the day on the couch, laying. Then I stayed in the same position and went to sleep. It took me about 10 minutes to get out of bed and stand up this morning. I've been walking more easily on it today, but if I move the wrong way or jerk in a direction that makes me use my left leg more, I get that burning and "shock" in my back and leg. I've been alternating an ice pack and a heating pad. It helps, until I try to get up.
I've had Sciatica before, and this could very well be it again, but with this, the pain isn't reaching my toes. I don't remember doing anything to injure myself. I don't think this happened from lifting my Son either, and he's the heaviest thing I've lifted since he was born 18 months ago. Last Sunday, I went into my Daughter's room and not paying attention, I tripped over some toys she had on the floor. I couldn't catch myself fast enough and collided with the floor. But this was nearly a week ago---could this be due to that?
I've tried both Advil and Aleve, but they don't help at all. I could go to the ER, but that would require Dan carrying me down the stairs, and being folded up like that would be more pain than I can stand.
Any ideas on how to fix this? It wouldn't be so bad if it was bearable enough to walk on it and go about my day. But I've got 2 small kids, and I need to be up and around for them. As for today, Dan took the day off to help, but he really can't make a habit of it.
