Is it weird to choreograph your stage set?
I'm very nervous, I will be auditioning soon and while I've been practicing to songs at home, I run out of moves. I feel dumb doing the same dips, swaying and spreading my legs over and over. I crawl on the floor and do a spread eagle, get up seductively, dip to the ground etc. but what do you do when your run out of moves? Is it weird to choreograph 3 routines? A slow tempo, mid tempo and fast tempo? I figure it'd take a lot of stress off of my shoulders because I wouldn't worry about looking dumb. What do you ladies think?
Re: Is it weird to choreograph your stage set?
I think the key is for it to be choreographed, only without looking choreographed. If you can do accomplish that, then hell give it a shot! Whatever makes the $$.
Re: Is it weird to choreograph your stage set?
I dunno, what if you choreograph it perfectly and then you get thrown a curve ball? That happened to me! I didn't really know how to do any stripper-freestyle so I had to choreograph my audition, and of course to a certain song. I had it worked out perfect and when I went to audition, I found out that the DJ doesn't come in at that time so all I had to dance to had to be picked out of a small list of back up music that the club has in its system. Of course my song wasn't on there. So my audition sucked major major majorly. But it worked somehow.
I'd just say that whatever you figure out, make sure you are very comfortable with it. Be prepared for curveballs.
Re: Is it weird to choreograph your stage set?
Practicing a variety of moves sounds good, but I'm not sure about a whole routine. You never know when you'll actually go out there and start the song, and you want to be able to move to the beat depending on whatever the beat is (and normally that'll change within a song unless it's techno). If you can learn to freestyle, I think that's better. You can practice that with a variety of music and just let your body make the choices (not your head).
Not necessary to worry about at an audition, but when you dance on stage you can interact with the guys at the tip rail, move slowly in front of the guy of your choice....so it's not move after move in the middle of the stage.
Re: Is it weird to choreograph your stage set?
I have a few signature moves or strings of choreography planned that I rely on when I pause and don't know what to do next. I think everyone does the same damn thing over and over again so it really doesn't look baaaad on you per say to do the same thing over and over, it just won't make you stand out.
Maybe try stretching those moves you do out and do them slower and longer. It sounds like you are dancing slowly already. When I see girls going too fast I suggest they dance as if they are moving through a vat of caramel.
Re: Is it weird to choreograph your stage set?
It's pretty much impossible to completely choreograph a stage set since you never know how the tipping is going to go. I generally have a loose framework in mind and then work around it. Also different clubs have different rules (ie not touching your body, no floor work, etc).
Different clubs like different styles but often, you can make up for time by just posing seductively on a pole or something. This can be filled in with a smile or facial expression of choice. Yeah it may be for a few seconds but it can kill time and helps with interacting with the customers.
Re: Is it weird to choreograph your stage set?
Well in the club i used to work at, all the girls did the same thing. If you managed to come up with a new move that wowed some of the Custies, the next girl up would just use it in the same way. I think if you have partial routines you'll be fine.
Re: Is it weird to choreograph your stage set?
I never choreograph, its kinda unnatural, i just let myself go with the music.
Re: Is it weird to choreograph your stage set?
I think that when the girls say, "No, just go with the flow," they might mean that you shouldn't overthink it too much.
However, if you feel unsure and think that it will make you feel more comfortable, I think you should come up with at least a few "strings of choreography," as AmazingKat, or "partial routines," as Divalicious suggested. It may ease your mind about appearing too repetitious while giving you the freedom to freestyle.
:flirt: .
Re: Is it weird to choreograph your stage set?
do you know how big the stage is going to be? what if it's tiny and you don't have room?!?! ;)

Which neatly illustrates the problem with choregraphy from a customer POV.
Most guys who come into a strip club have illusions about dancers. They want to think you're getting a lot of personal enjoyment from what you're doing. They *don't* want to think "it's just a job for her and she's just going through the same old routine".
If you're too choreographed, you'll come across as a mechanical dancer with no interest in the person you're dancing for. The dancers that bank are the ones that give the impression (real or otherwise) that they're interested in and enjoying waht they're doing.

Again, from the customer POV, I think you're focusing on being an accomplished dancer. You might need to focus on something else. You're dancing for an audience, and it's the interaction with that audience that'll determine how well you're received.
To that end smiling, making eye contact and otherwise trying to establish some kind of rapport with the people watching you is more important than having a large repertoire of moves.
Turn things around a little and try and think of things from the POV of someone in the audience. Do you want to watch:
(a) A dancer concentrating extremely hard on following a very polished routine and paying no attention to you.
or
(b) A dancer who can only do the basic moves, but is smiling, making eye contact and otherwise showing an interest in the people she's dancing for.
Phil.
Re: Is it weird to choreograph your stage set?
Thank you all so much for the advice! I would've looked like a damn fool. LOL. I completely forgot the fact that I won't be dancing for the entire set due to accepting tips etc. And they definately won't be playing the type of music that I've been practicing to. From what I can remember, there is one main stage and there are about five poles on the stage, they usually have 5 girls on stage at the same time. I didn't even think about that, I would've done a spread eagle and tripped a girl!:-[
Phil, thanks for the customer perspective, I appreciate that! I can definately be seductive and attentive, so I will take my small arsenal of moves and do them when I feel like it, rather than plan them out and time them.
I think once I get over the nerves, I'll be okay.

Yes you will. :)
Re: Is it weird to choreograph your stage set?
Just keep in mind too that the songs in clubs get " cut " and don't last as long as when you practice at home to the radio or the cd player. I was practicing on my home pole and they seemed to take f..o..r..e..v.e.r
Now, if I could only take my own advice and start making some money instead of surfing SW. It's time to cut myself off from this site until I actually go in to a club and make some money!
