ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) and US bank account
Ugh...does anyone have any info about this? I'm getting an honorarium from a US-based non-profit this summer, so I have to get an ITIN, which is handy because I want a US bank account anyways. BUT, the information I have gathered is contradictory...I need an ITIN to open a bank account, but I need a bank account to get an ITIN??? Gah. The non-profit has no idea, they don't usually deal with Canadians.
Thank you!

Bank of America will fix you up ... they're the experts at opening accounts for foreign nationals ... just talk with a Mexican accent !
Seriously, you can apply directly to the IRS for an ITIN.

Ya, I'm going to visit the IRS office when I'm in DC, it's just I only have a week (of lunch hours) to get it all sorted, so I don't want some sort of govurmint red tape to screw it all up. Bank of America for serious, or because they're crap-os? What would be the best bank for a non-resident, in terms of services n stuff?
