May I ask a silly question?
Lets say you haven't seen a person in about 15 years and you run in to them via in person and or online and you start up a conversation of "how are you, wow long time no see..."
At any moment do you see it appropriate to say something negative towards their appearance?
-
Re: May I ask a silly question?
Ummm...not really lol why?
Not unless you hate them!
-
Re: May I ask a silly question?
:D:DThis made me laugh so hard, cause it's so incredibly awkward to find out someone you used to know is now hugely morbidly obese or whatever, especially if they used to be attractive....what a weird situation.:D
I don't say anything though.
I did mention to my husband how weird it is, that it seems everyone I went to high school with got fat, and he said, it just gets worse...*he's 10 years older than me*. Funny, but depressing...

Re: May I ask a silly question?
^^^
Not if you hated the people you went to highschool with and you get to laugh as you see them walk into Lane Bryant at the mall and you call your bf from school on the phone and she laughs too...
(not that I DID that or anything)

Re: May I ask a silly question?
No, unless they were a total and utter asshole at some point and now I can lord their ugliness over them.
-
Re: May I ask a silly question?
I agree. Its really not appropriate at all unless in the past they were a complete bitch to you and you want to show them a lesson and even then, I say take the higher ground, them just seeing you looking way more fabulous than them is lesson enough.
Can I just ask, was it you making a comment to someone else or them making a comment to you?

Re: May I ask a silly question?
Let say it was someone you dated back in 9th grade, still were friends after and just grew up, moved and didn't see them in along time, then one day on ohh facebook they say "hey where do I know you from?" cause you added them and you say "wow! lets see school and in 9th grade you and I were boyfriend and girlfriend" and they said "OMG that isn't you is it? holy crap that is not you is it? wow!"
After a few "wow so you have a beautiful family, where are you living now, what are you up to" they say something like "wow! you can see how your kids sucked the life out of your boobs"
Now Cameron can tell you I am struggling real bad with body image, mostly my breast and for someone who I had not seen or heard of in so long, why would he say that? I was like "dude you hurt my feelings" and he said "sorry, damn I still don't think before I speak" or something to that effect, my husband was like "that was not nice!" hurt my feelings man :(

Re: May I ask a silly question?
hahaahahahahahahaha
its NOTHING.
facebook reunions are ALWAYS awkward. ALWAYS.
-
Re: May I ask a silly question?
Wow, that is really fucking rude. Yeah, he definitely didn't think before speaking. I guess there's a reason this ahole didn't make it to your future.

Re: May I ask a silly question?
I'm just a little sensitive about my breast.
Just so random to say, why even say it you know, I didn't say anything about his appearance but I wanted to say "yeah and this is why your ass is still fucking single"
-
Re: May I ask a silly question?
men are idiots
I remember someone once telling me "oh my God you used to be so pretty in elementary".....man, fuck off!!!
-
Re: May I ask a silly question?

Re: May I ask a silly question?
wtf indeed. I don't get it! I'm not like that man, I see beauty in good people, apparently this is one of the qualities my husband loves the most about me so for a person to say something like that to me was just :bottom lip quivers:

Re: May I ask a silly question?
Sounds like this is a character who doesn't think much before he speaks, or if he does it is on a strange, shallow level. You're a beautiful woman, HHL, and I would let it go. I do ENTIRELY understand body sensitivity, though--I was burned when I was a child and went through extensive plastic surgery, and it is amazing what a strong front you develop and yet how deeply even a look can hurt you. I don't know if this makes sense, but I entirely understand the sensitivity and I'm sorry you heard that from him.

Re: May I ask a silly question?
It happened again this time with 2 other men.
I came to the conclusion that it has to be a cultural thing.
1 said... Wow you model? at your age? after becoming old you wanted to be pretty, you should of done that when you were 18.
2 said "wow you have lost a lot of weight, glad you did"
:deep breath in:
after telling them off, saying "what the fuck happened to a simple compliment? why the hell do you feel the need to speak through your ass? I was always taught that if I didn't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all and I suggest you also live by that. Just because you can say something it doesn't mean it is the right thing to say"
After a few "oh chill out I was joking"
I said "no I don't mention crap about you or anyone else, it's rude!"
So he writes this "ok fine you look beautiful! absolutely stunning, gorgeous! there you happy?"
I said "it is not about that, it is about thinking before saying something stupid!"
so after a few replies one said ...
"I am sorry. I will keep that in mind so let me start again, you look very nice in this picture"
the other one said "I'm sorry I didn't mean to hurt your feelings and PR we always joke like that...and I understand u r not used to that shit...so I'll have that in mind from now on..."
Mind you I lived in Pr for most of my life (Puerto Rico) but I never picked that shit up or encouraged it when I lived there.
So now I decided to say "FUCK IT!! fuck you all who have a negative thing to say about a person's image and make people feel inadequate, bitches, so I added a new song to my myspace :D
Thank you for letting me vent :sigh: that feels good!

Re: May I ask a silly question?
HHL, he sounds like an ass. I do not understand why someone would think it was okay to be so rude to someone they barely know and haven't spoken to in years! Maybe it's cultural, or maybe he's jealous. Either way, don't listen to that crap!
-
Re: May I ask a silly question?
Sometimes stuff pops out of my mouth before I can stop it. For instance I ran into a woman that I used to work with and blurted out "You look great! You always used to look so sickly skinny!"
Turns out she was 7 months pregnant.:O oops...
-
Re: May I ask a silly question?
aww thanks.
People just seriously need to think, I at times have that problem, but it's with language issues, I will think in Spanish for instance, say it in Spanish then type it up translated in English and then it's all wrong! but I have been working on that. Being more expressive in English is hard for me.
But feelings people, people forget there is a human on the other side with emotions but I think it will stop now cause I made myself very clear.
I'm sorry if it has happened to any of you and if it happens just know people really are stupid :D
-
Re: May I ask a silly question?
Can you block him from your facebook thingy? That's not a cultural joke, that's just nasty. And if he thinks it's funny then there's a great reason to never speak to him again.
Speaking as someone who is lamenting the loss of her boobies too. If someone made a comment like that it would be the last comment they made to me. Unless they were a dear close friend, then I would just tell them they were rude, but a random dude from years ago??? nope.

Re: May I ask a silly question?
Yeah you need to drop that fool immediamente! He's a douche. He wants to get you back because he's stuck on high school.

I must agree. And HHL you are hot! But I know what you mean about being sensitve about one thing.
(Also one of my friends is from PR-lived there his whole life until 20 and he never talks like that! I would beat him senseless.)

Re: May I ask a silly question?
Dont waste energy on idiots like that.
To answer your original question I would not find it appropriate to say something negative about a person's appearance whether I saw them 15 years ago or 15 mins ago. What does it achieve besides hurting another's feelings?
I truly hate poeple who justify the fact that they are nothing but a RUDE CUNT by saying "oh im just honest, if people can't handle the truth blah blah" wrong your just a NASTY RUDE CUNT.
Hehe.
Don't worry about those guys they are prob bitter that they aren't getting any or something.
