Why did you start stripping??
Hey guys! I'm being bad because I'm really supposed to be doing homework, but instead I'm sitting here drinking red wine and philosophizing }:D I started to really wonder why I want to strip. And I realized something! It's not just about the money for me. Stripping has always been a fantasy for me. But why? I love seducing men, and I do believe it is a bit of an art. But really, the real reason I want to strip is to prove to myself that I don't just have to dream and that I can actually do something! (Don't dream it do it?) I believe that is the real reason I am going to do this. What is everyone else's story?

This was me. I didn't even want to be a stripper, really, as such; I wanted to audition at a strip club to prove to myself I could do it. And I did. And I was put on the schedule and I walked out with no intention of ever stepping foot in the club again. Then I thought, well I don't have to stay if I don't like it but why not give it a try?
It's a year later and here I am!

Re: Why did you start stripping??
moneymoneymoneymoneymoney. I'd never step foot in another club if it wasn't for the money, and never would have in the first place, either. I wish I 'loved it' like a lot of others do (either the sales, atmosphere, whatever); though I admit it's a sweet deal and pretty fun at times, nothing but money makes me actually continue with it.

Re: Why did you start stripping??
I don't always love the work, but I love the industry. I've been obsessed with the sex industry since I was a child, and when I was 13 I used to dream of being a prostitute or a stripper. I spent my early twenties wishing I had the guts to be like all those amazing women, and finally when I was about 26 I realized that nothing was stopping me but my own inhibitions. I've had my ups and downs since I got into this business, but I get depressed when I think of retiring. I might not always be a stripper, but I always want to be connected somehow to sex work.

Re: Why did you start stripping??
It's always been money and the schedule. Though I'd still want to do some sort of (clothed) dancing otherwise. That part's just fun.

Re: Why did you start stripping??
I needed money. And when I first had the idea that *I* could be a stripper it was intoxicating. It was an amazingly liberating idea based on the background I've come from. So I just went and did it. Put on make-up, grabbed the closest thing I could think of to stripper-wear, and went. And here I am!

Re: Why did you start stripping??
I think the money definitely helps me get the guts to try it out ;)

This is VERY close to how I feel about my financial situation. I always dream about being an independent woman because I've ALWAYS depended on men or my mom. It really sucks. And I've looked for other jobs, trust me, and I'm not willing to work my ass off and then spend what took me two hours to make on one freakin' meal. It's rediculous here. Financial freedom = freedom, basically. That's how bad the economy is over here. Even people with degrees are struggling. My mom has a masters degree and she can't get a job better than fucking SEARS :O That's why I'm just going to stay in the academic world and become a professor.

Re: Why did you start stripping??
I had just finished my freshman year of college, my boyfriend had cheated on me and we broke up, I was about to leave for oregon 3,000 miles away and i wanted to make enough money to support myself when i moved, plus... it was rebellious and fun and I had always wanted to do it, since I was like... 16. I never wanted to work for a company in a retail store or in a restaurant or in an office cubicle. The last two jobs I had before I started were working in a daycare and working at starbucks for freaking 8 dollars an hour, 40 hours a week to pay for everything. screw that. So I got naked and have been ever since.

It's really inspiring to hear that you got in at 26! You're quite the expert.
I also kind of always wanted to do it. Mostly because... well, I have a weird relationship with my body, being gender-muddled as I am. I don't exactly hate my breasts and my vaj, but I don't exactly love them either. And I've always felt -- since I was an adolescent -- that since they were going to hang around anyway, they might as well work to earn their keep.
That's why I got into it. Why I'm getting back to it has more to do with finally feeling like a grownup on an economic level. Other job prospects in Portland are... frankly, not pretty, either in the experiential sense or in the sense of pay -- I love living there and I liked dancing. Some days I loved it, other days I didn't, but I always liked it at least a little. And I think of most of the other things I could be doing and realize that, frankly, I don't want a piece of the crap that is the nine-to-five world, and even as a rule the paycheck world. So I intend to go back in and really own it this time. I have some nerves about it, but I've been making a serious game plan and I'm determined to stick to it.
I also really enjoy the performance aspect!

Re: Why did you start stripping??
OK so I haven't 'got into it' quite yet, but I can easily answer why I am. Well, I mean finding the answer easy, but writing it may take a while ::)
1) I love to perform - but not just acting, I love flirting, teasing, dancing, playing mind games and just being blatant and sexual. It's not something I can always get away with in real life, and has often landed me in trouble, but here I have a space where I'm MEANT to do those things, and have the means to control the results, at least to some extent.
2) I want good money. I feel my value is higher than most people will pay a fresh-out-of-uni woman, so I'm going where the money takes me.
3) I've always wanted to do it. Even when I was little and had no concept of the adult industry. Sex is a ridiculously large part of my life and of me.
4) I like my free time. I want a job that means I'm not wasting 40 hours a week cooped up in an office. I have side projects I want to do. I want to be able to do this without being poor (see point 2)
5) Because I damn well can! ;D Because I turn men on all the time by accident, because I'm hot, because I know how to tease, so I may as well make some cash of it while I still can ;)
Hehe

Re: Why did you start stripping??
I used to always go to the club with my boyfriend, and one slow night we had 5 girls at our table trying to convince me to come back and audition. The allure of making $500 in one night vs 2 weeks (I was working part time, $8 an hour) was too much.
I auditioned wearing a dress from Guess lol.

Re: Why did you start stripping??
The first time, I was so broke I couldnt pay my rent. When I went back to it after a year or two, I was sick of barely being able to pay my bills. i also missed prancing around in skimpy, cute outfits and feeling sexy.

Cherry, I agree wholeheartedly on these. I was also close on #2, just that I am 31 years old with a college degree and 3 years of corporate inventory control experience in my history and still can't find anything that pays me anwhere near what I need to have a decent living here in CT. I even had one interviewer call me back and apologize, saying my asking salary was too *low* for my skills and he couldn't hire me even near it, and that wouldn't be fair to either of us.

Re: Why did you start stripping??
I went into a club as a dare to myself. 3 days later I went into (what was then) the best club in town and told them I could do better than the other joint, they agreed. I love performance and I feel powerful and feminine on stage. After a while it became the money then I quit. Now I can't practice my profession in this country and after losing/gaining weight I had little self esteem and wondered if I could do it again. I hesitated but got a good kick up the arse (Thanks Cally and Scarlett_Vancouver) and here I am again and feeling pretty good about it too, I guess my experience has helped and hindered my return. I'm a better performer, more worldly, less inhibited and much more stable mentally/emotionally, smarter too. On the other hand I've become more mellowed and my hustle sucks, but hey, I'm only 2 months back in the game. And yes, the money has been a massive factor both then and now.
I've also had a fascination with the sex industry from a young age. I used to have a babysitter whom I adored and looked up to, I thought she was the most beautiful, sexy and intelligent woman I'd ever met. I found out after I'd started stripping that she was a dancer, heh.

Re: Why did you start stripping??
I knew when I was 17 that i wanted to dance. I tried to get a guy friend of mine's sister to help me but she said i had to wait til i was 18. So i did. No one helped me i didnt even know what a costume was. I entered the industry blind. And when i made the money I was hooked...I actually didnt work that much as a 18 yr old...i was so new and naiive..and prey...
