Checking Account
I have a checking account with a local bank. It's a "second-chance" checking because I have a negative ChexSystems report within the last 7 years (and getting ANYTHING fixed with ChexSystems is a nightmare!). My problem is that I'm travelling this summer and would like to get an account with a national bank so that I can make my deposits while on the road. Does anybody know of any national banks that offer something like a "second-chance" checking account? It really sucks, because I've had THIS account for about 18 months and have never overdrafted it. Once I got my ex-husband off my accounts, I stopped OD'ing.
Anyways, any ideas? Or, barring that of a local bank, how can I get money back to my home when I'm gone for so long?

Re: Checking Account
You can always get a lot of deposit slips and mail money orders along with the deposit slips through the US postal service. I have an out of state account for my HSA (health care savings account) because there are no fees. Bank of America was going to charge me more per month that I would use all year on health care. Then, BofA charged me $10 per transaction to transfer money into the account (because it was leaving their bank).
Bottom line - I called my bank and asked if I could mail the money to them. I do not even need a deposit slip - I just have to write certain info on the check. Yes, I am using a check but with deposit slips you could just send in money orders. Heck maybe you can send those with no deposit slips as well. Call your bank and ask. They will likely have a certain address to use as well, not your local branch address. Also ask how they want the money order made out and what info to include on it. Hope that helps.

I was on chexsystems and got an account at WellsFargo but it was like 5 years old... how old is yours? Dont bother for BofA... I know they wont open an account.
USBank does 2nd chance checking - they have ATMs all over the place - in lots of stores...but I dont know how far east they reach...

Re: Checking Account
you can paypal money to yourself if you are near or with someone who has a paypal account. you just add your account number to a profile, and then your person sends money from their profile to your bank account.

Re: Checking Account
Yep US Bank...
I actually was able to get off Checksystems.... you need to pay the bank what money you owe them, and make them send you a letter saying it is payed off. Send that to Checksystems and request they send you a letter of confirmation that it is off. It is a pain in the ass and takes a couple months but worth it.
