Are you smarter than a first-grader?
OK, so the Angel of the Century, who is in first grade, comes home with her homework. Here are the questions. Based on these questions, you are to determine the identity of the pitcher as well as who plays 1st, 2nd and 3rd base.
Barb, Terry, Karla and Linda are on their school's softball team.
1. Barb, Terry and the pitcher all live on Metter Street and practice their batting together on Saturdays.
2. Linda is taller than Terry and the girl playing second base, but she is shorter than Barb.
3. Terry is a faster runner than the third baseman.
I worked it out in a minute or two (answers below if you want to play; no answers were provided because I guess they figured six-year-old kids can just do this stuff) but since when did they ask these questions in first grade? In first grade I was still eating white paste and sticking pencils in my ears.
She is also studying Chinese and computers and is already fluent in Russian. It's nice to know that she's already doing the same work I did in college. :O
ANSWERS:
Pitcher - Linda
1st Base - Terry
2nd Base - Karla
3rd Base - Barb
Re: Are you smarter than a first-grader?
Holy shit, your kids gonna be a rocket scientist or something. If she figured that out she's already smarter than me.
Re: Are you smarter than a first-grader?
I didn't get it... it seems like there is a clue left out...
Re: Are you smarter than a first-grader?
Totally stumped.
Do you have to know something about softball to answer that question? Because it doesn't make sense unless theres some rules like the tallest player usually plays a certain position.
I'm curious as to which subject that was asked in.
Re: Are you smarter than a first-grader?
I suck.
I figured out Terry is 1stbase, but couldn't figure anythign else out. It seemed to me that most of the info was irrelevant to solve the problem.
yeah. I not smarter than a 1st grader.
Re: Are you smarter than a first-grader?
All the clues are there. No knowledge of baseball necessary.
It's done by a process of elimination.
If you want to work it out, do NOT scroll down.
Pitcher: Linda or Karla
Not Pitcher: Barb, Terry
Height:
Terry,
2nd Baseman -> Linda -> Barb
Terry is not the third baseman
So you know Terry cannot be the 2nd or 3rd baseman or the pitcher (see above)
Terry is 1st base
Karla is 2nd base (she's the only one not mentioned by name in the Terry, Linda, Barb height comparison)
Barb is 3rd base because Linda is the only possible pitcher because Karla is at 2nd
Linda is the pitcher because she's all that's left.
Re: Are you smarter than a first-grader?
I had to write it out, but I got it. Great brain teaser TOO!
Re: Are you smarter than a first-grader?
Wow, thats hardcore to ask a first grader to do.
lol i'm going to be here all night working it out (and have been covering my screen when i scroll down cos don't want to cheat :) )
Re: Are you smarter than a first-grader?
hehe YAY i got it eventually :) The extra information threw me off.
Consider me daft.
Re: Are you smarter than a first-grader?
I solved it over some raw paste
Re: Are you smarter than a first-grader?
I don't deserve to be in college.
Re: Are you smarter than a first-grader?
Well, at least Im pretty.....
Lol!! I didn't get it.
Re: Are you smarter than a first-grader?
I got it, but that doesn't stop me from thinking it might be the stupidest question I've ever heard. Ever.

She's an amazing kid. Gorgeous.
So lucky to have you for a dad.
Re: Are you smarter than a first-grader?
I certainly don't need any test to prove I am not smarter than a first grader...it is pretty obvious already.
Re: Are you smarter than a first-grader?
Just wait till she does algebra in 2nd grade! I did get it, but i do those puzzles for fun....lol
