Does anyone else rely on alcohol at work? social..
I have to drink atleast 3-5 alcoholic beverages during a shift. sometimes i go overboard but not till im drunk or blacking out nothing like that...the thing is i have pretty bad social anxiety customers sense it if im not drinkning and i just dont work nearly as well when im sober. ( RUDE customer even commented on my "sweaty palms" one time >:( )...does anyone else rely on alchohol to work? any suggestions on how to work SOBER?

Re: Does anyone else rely on alcohol at work? social..
Force yourself, really. While it's hard, once you're 'used to' working while not drinking your anxiety will slowly wane.

Re: Does anyone else rely on alcohol at work? social..
Youch.
I avoid getting drunk at work. Except on my birthday. haha.
Drink chamomile tea when you're nervous. Take a B complex (will give you energy, and help you relax). BREATHE.
Maybe go talk to a shrink. I don't like pharmaceuticals, but I think they'd be much better in your case.
And you're definitely not the only dancer I know or have spoken with who has this kind of problem.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with getting socially lubricated at work teehee

Not excessive but very unhealthy.

I don;t mean to TJ but:
What if you're not "scared", your just too serious aka "not fun" if your not drunk. How do you just get over that.

Re: Does anyone else rely on alcohol at work? social..
He complained about your sweaty palms!? That's retarded! I bet he was a fatass. That just pisses me off, and I'm not sure why it makes me so upset, but I know that I get sweaty palms when I'm nervous too. If someone commented on it I'd probably say something like, "Well what do you expect when you're a dancer? It's not like we're non-human and have no pores!?" Arg!

It might be considered excessive depending on how often she works...

Be fun. Smile, laugh, make jokes. Pretend work is like a giant game. It's FUN! Nobody wants to relax with someone who's uptight. They want jokes, fun, humour... pretend you're at a theme park, run around, enjoy yourself. Smile, laugh... it's learned trait, really. You just gotta DO it. FAKE IT UNTIL YOU MAKE IT.
It can be 'all about the money' when you're home countin' your queenies or benjis.
Edit: Joplin reply

i tried the other day and couldnt take it any more i had to drink. i was acting like such a fool i couldnt even speak clearly and was literally shaking when approaching a customer. not to mention i gave one really crappy awkward lap dance lol.
but yes the reason i want to work sober or off 1 drink (usually doesnt stay at 1 though) is b/c i feel like it's depressing me more and like im having more "blonde" moments recently...it is unhealthy.

for a healthy woman, two standard drinks per day with two alcohol-free days per week is regarded as low risk
15 drinks per week is when it starts getting really dangerous.

You shouldn't be so hard on yourself! That will just make you wanna drink more lol. I think it's great that you made it thru a dance without drinking. Just keep on trying to be sober until you just cannot stand it anymore and I bet you'll be able to get over your nerves sober eventually. Just be careful! I grew up in a household full of alcoholics so to me this is a bit of a red flag, but I'm certainly not here to judge you. Just remember that even that one dance sober is a huge step when you have anxiety!! (I've also suffered from anxiety so I understand how it feels.)

Exactly. I can't crack jokes around people I don't know. Most of that is because I'm so sarcastic that I say sarcastic things in seriousness and never let up. So obviously if you don't know me you're not going to assume I'm joking. I guess I could REALLY try to put on an act, but faking bubbly would wear me out FAST.
I also can't seem to focus if I'm not buzzed. I just seem like one person in the club. When I'm drinking It's more like me and this person alone, I don't get distracted.

I completely understand this. I absolutely love my father but he was a raging alcoholic, in and out of jail also. So whenever I drink, even just one drink, I think about some of the things he has done or said over the years. I also think about how worried he would be if he knew I was drinking... and this is part of my motivation to get used to dancing sober ASAP once I land a job. I'm not gunna lie; I probably will have at least one drink for my first audition, but for multiple reasons I hope I can keep my limit to 2 or 3 drinks a night.

That's my problem. I don't have anxiety per se but I definitely have big stick shoved up my arse until I have a drink.

Re: Does anyone else rely on alcohol at work? social..
I don't get it. To be absolutely honest, I don't know why people would choose to work in an environment they didn't feel naturally comfortable in on a regular basis. I mean, if I wanted to be a policewoman but I was afraid of firing my gun, wouldn't that be a pretty serious reason to consider NOT being in a career where firing my gun would be sort of necessary? My options are to get over it, be a not-very-good officer, or find a different career as far as I can tell. I understand having rough nights but if I needed to drink EVERY night to get through my shift, I would be reconsidering why I felt this was the job for me.

Re: Does anyone else rely on alcohol at work? social..
I drive myself to work so I can't get drunk or even drink more than 1 or 2 drinks (depending on the hours I work, i allow myself one drink per 4 hours), I would like to drink more sometimes but, it's not an option. Even if I have a ride to work now I still try to cut myself off after 2 drinks b/c once I hit 3 drinks I don't really know when to stop. I don't NEED to drink though. I can work completely sober, it's just more fun to drink a little and more like work when sober.

It shouldn't be a dependancy at all really. I drink MAYBE one drink a week and MAYBE half the time it's when I'm working. You gotta learn to cope with the job. Otherwise you'll just wilt. It sucks.
