my bankruptcy story- finally filed and over with.
i had been asking questions on and off for a year now about bankruptcy and last october i had my first meeting with my attorny.
his initial fee was 600 and on that day we pulled my credit report and decided since i wanted to keep my car that i was going to file chapter 13.
i had to file 2 years of back taxes and then 2007 and wait for my ohio residency requirements to go through since i moved back from SC. i also had to do a pre bankruptcy debt counceling session thats mandatory.
i am repaying 46000 in unsecured debt at 5 cents on the dollar over 5 years and that does not include my attory fees that are being payed back in full over the 5 years and the 5600 i owe in taxes in full.
ill be making 188.00 payments for the next 5 years. it sure beats what i would ahve had to pay back otherwise though.
all in all not as bad or as scary as i thought it would be.
id liek to thank mel for all her help and everyone esles advice along the way. xo

Good for you. :) That must be a relief to have it done and mostly off your shoulders.

well, the 5 years worth of payments aren't quite as good as the old 'walk away clean' Chapter 7 bankruptcies ... but they're a hell of a lot better than creditors calling you night and day, with late fees and penalty interest being tacked on top of bills you can't afford to ever pay off. At least this way, 8-9 years down the road you'll have a shot at having excellent credit again.

glad you got through it and got it all figured out. I felt like I had a huge weight lifted off my shoulders when I filed my Chapter 7.

Same here... OMG it feels sooo good to have people check my report and see two years of perfect credit and to not stress and just know its done. I did it. It was worth it. I actually am obsessed with my CR... i have freecreditreport.com monthly thing so i can always know whats going on. its way way way worth the $13 monthly fee...
