paid taxes with check, how long?
I sent a check on the 15th and it still hasn't processed. Anyone know how long it takes to clear my bank account?
Also, I didn't know you had an option to do a payment plan, so is there still a way for me to cancel my check and ask them if I can do a plan instead? I doubt it, but that'd be awesome if I could...
Re: paid taxes with check, how long?
not sure how long before it processes, but if you cancel it before it's cashed then you can call them to make a payment plan. I'm sure you know that if you have the money now though it's better to pay it all as interest will still accrue on a payment plan.

I know it takes a while. I sent a check to the taxation board and it took well over a month to clear my account and this wasnt even the IRS... just state tax.

Last year, my State tax check took almost two months to clear /:O

Yea, i hate waiting for checks to clear. If im paying something I know takes a while Ill just go to the bank and get a cashiers check. That way I still have the proof of paid but dont have to wait forever for it to clear. Ill do this next year with the state tax. I have to do this with my daughters lunches because I swear they hold the checks for weeks... it drives me nuts having to open my bills program to see what checks are out and how much money i *really* have in my account...

Do you know if checks for federal taxes go quicker??
Re: paid taxes with check, how long?
Once you send the check, it's most likely too late to ask them to not cash it and put you on a payment plan. Only because your check is one of millions they receive, put in a stack and cash all at once. There's no way the IRS is going to pay some flunkie to dig your check out.
Your best bet is to ask for a payment plan next year. Sorry.
Re: paid taxes with check, how long?
Do you like need the money back? You mentioned putting a stop payment on it. That is an option but a risk I wouldnt take. I wouldnt f*ck with the IRS by doing that unless I was in dire straights - like going to lose my home/car/or need medical care...
