Again a lot depends on what kind of distances people living in your area typically drive to get to their place of work. Another factor is your work pattern. If you drive to a club 80 miles away for a couple of weeks, but then drive to a different club a different distance away for the next couple of weeks, the IRS is more likely to accept that the 80 miles constitutes a legitimate 'business trip'. On the other hand, if you drive to a club 80 miles away all the time, and don't drive to any other place of work, the IRS is more likely to deem this a 'commute'.
