Botox & eye drooping (advice needed & warnings)
I'm about to turn 32 yrs old. I've been getting botox every 4 months for about a year now and am in love with it, probably addicted to it. I get it only on my forehead and in between my eyes (the frown wrinkle). The frown wrinkle is what is most bothersome to me, it's genetic, my mom got her's pretty early as I did. I started noticing the frown wrinkle at about age 25 and at age 27 started getting laser treatments done which helped for a while but as I got a couple yrs older and started dancing it continued to get a little worse so at 31 I finally made the decision to get botox. Since I first got it a yr ago and have had a total of 4 treatments since then, I've been sooooo incredibly happy with it. Granted my forehead is frozen and I can't make facial expressions, but I've been fine with that because it's very very flat and smooth, I love that!
A couple weeks ago I got a treatment of Botox, had been about 5 months since my last one and it was almost worn off so decided to get it done since I'm going to Cancun in another week;D and wanted to look my best on my first beach vacation in 3 yrs! Well, about 5 days after the treatment, my left eye got the drooping effect. It's been a little over a week since the drooping happened and it's starting to get noticeably better but still has some time to go. I'm wondering if any of you or know of someone who's had botox that's gotten the eye drooping? And if so, how long did it take to go away?
And just for anyone who gets it or plans on getting it in the future: apparently, there's some things you're not supposed to do after you get the injections. (These are things my doctor never told me>:() You're not supposed to lay down/ nap for at least 4 hours after the injections, you're not supposed to rub your face/ apply lotion or makeup for at least 24 hours and you're not supposed to get heat near your face. It just so happens I did all of them! When I got home I immediately took a nap, then I showered and washed my face, I then went to the tanning bed and then went to work so I rubbed my face by applying lotion, foundation, etc. on my face.
I'm so pissed about the eye drooping because I think I looked like an idiot! I got so sick of customers and people asking "OMG, what happened to your eye?" For the most part, I told people I had an allergic reaction to something. I'm pissed that my doctor never gave post-op instructions as I believe this could've been avoided! Now, I've done all the things you're not supposed to do before (except tan) and this has never happened but it only takes once!
So, I basically wanted to warn everyone on here who gets botox or is planning on getting it to take all the post-op precautions that was never told to me and I'm wondering if anyone on here has had this happen to them or know someone and if so, how long did the eye drooping last? Thankfully, my eye drooping wasn't worst case scenario, apparently, some people's have gotten so bad that their eye is completely shut! I basically looked like I was drunk/f*cked up, but only in one eye! As a joke I've said when I get drunk, it only affects my left eye! ::) Ughh!!!!!
Re: Botox & eye drooping (advice needed & warnings)
I got Botox one time and I was so paranoid that something like that would happen that I had panic attacks every night until it fully kicked in. For me, it wasn't worth the stress it caused, and it made me feel like my eyebrows were really really heavy. It was weird.

Did the drooping effect come from the botox that was injected into your forehead or to the spot in between your eyes? How does it cause drooping to the eye if it's above the eye?
I am so sorry you're experiencing this. What a total pain!
Re: Botox & eye drooping (advice needed & warnings)
It happened to a friend of mine (I think she's at your club right now, actually) and she would tape or glue her eyelid until it wore off. Did you get it done by a nurse at a medspa or by a doctor?

I got this info off a website. I wonder if the eye drop advice will help? I am still confused though how putting it in the forehead causes the eye below to droop??
What's the worst that can happen, you might ask, from having a toxic substance injected into your face?? According to results from a study conducted at Wake Forest, Botox side effects are minimal. Doctors found a small risk the skin around the injection site would droop temporarily. (3). This is known as blepharoptosis and occurs in about 5% of patients. It usually appears 7 to 14 days after the injection and can last 4 to 6 weeks. A more speedy method of treating it is the application of prescription eye drops (iopidine). In many cases, these drops will help resolve the droop within a few days. To reduce the risk of blepharoptosis, it is recommended that patients obtain Botox from a physician who is experienced in its use. It is also important for a patient to remain vertical for 4-6 hours after the injection. This allows the Botox to be taken up in the treated area and reduces the chance of displacement to other muscles. The injected site should not be touched for two to three hours following injection.

This reminds me of the episode of Nip/Tuck where Christian was doing a botox party for some mafia ladies and one of the women's husband attacked him with syringes of botox. They put it all over him, but of course he only suffered for a day or something from it. Does anyone remember that?

I got it injected by a doctor, he's done it on me like 4 other times with great results and has done close to 500 times and he said I was the first patient it's happened to. Apparently, some of the botox dripped/difused into an eye muscle directly above the eyebrow. He injected into a muscle above the eyebrow because it'll give you an eyebrow lift and he's done the exact same thing as before. He said just by being off by a milimeter can cause that. I have heard of the eye drops but I think I'm going to let it heal on it's own. I've been doing these eye excercises by holding my right eye shut with my hand and opening my left eye as hard & as wide as possible. That seems to be helping, perhaps it strengthening other eye muscles that aren't normally used to hold open your eye. Yes, this does suck! I've loved getting botox, I've loved how much younger it made me look and how smooth, flat & shiney my forehead is when it's frozen. Some people think I'm crazy for liking it frozen, but I love it. I'll take the smoothness over facial expressions any day and when it's frozen, it's makes look younger too. Please keep your fingers crossed for me that it improves enough for my trip in 6 days. I've definitely learned a lesson, the day I plan on getting married means not to get botox for at least 2 months prior to the wedding! Yes, I'll still have it done, even with this!

Really? She feels injecting your forehead is too risky?
To the OP, if you're angry enough, have you considered complaining to the state board that licensed your doc since he didn't give you adequate care (forgetting to tell you not what to do)? If you feel he made a goof that was an inherent risk and understandable, that's something different. Will you continue to see him?
Also to the OP: have you noticed folks having a different reaction to you after you started the injections?
I hope this passes fast!

Yeah, some of the botox probably just got into a muscle that it wasn't supposed to. It might have had something to do with not knowing the proper after-care, but more likely than not he injected a little wrong.
Is it a plastic surgeon? A friend of mine had the same thing happen at a plastic surgeon's office. I'll only go to an eye doctor because of the problems it could cause with your eyes. :-\
Re: Botox & eye drooping (advice needed & warnings)
I asked a nurse today, and she said that if the doctor injects just a little too far to the right or left of your forehead, the muscle that keeps the eye from drooping will relax. (Uh-oh.) She said she worked with a really good doctor who injected botox into an older lady's forehead, but because she didn't have a lot of elasticity, some of it "ran" over into the other muscle. (Yikes!)
Leogirl, Thanks for sharing your problem with us b/c I had no idea! Hope your eye gets better soon.
Re: Botox & eye drooping (advice needed & warnings)
Leo, this happened to me. To correct it, the nurse injected MORE botox. All I wanted was in between the brows. I ended up with a frozen heavy forehead. My eyelids drooped over my eyes.
I did what many Asians do to get a crease. I used eyelash glue and a cuticle pusher. Duo is the best.
demonstration:
You only need to put the glue where your crease is, not all over like the video shows.
Or you could use surgical tape. It tends to slide off though.
You could wear savvy glasses to hide it.
I'm guessing that it'll take about 2-3 weeks before the droopiness goes away. It took 6 weeks for me, but that nurse royally fucked up. That's what I get for bargain hunting with cosmetic procedures. I've given up on Botox. The doctor I trust charges $450, and I'd rather have the furrow than pay that much.
Viola, I'm not a stripper anymore. I lurk on Body Business because nobody knows beauty more than strippers.
Re: Botox & eye drooping (advice needed & warnings)
Is this a common side effect? Im pretty determined to get botox in my forehead. I want my plastic surgeon who did my nose and boobs to do it. But this thread has scared me!!
