Sweet cleaning tips you never even thought of
You can use those little felt bags that expensive shoes and handbags come in as dust cloths or mop covers if you have an old mop. You can wash them and they are good as new. They collect dust much better than towels or rags.
Also Windex will clean marker off of ANYthing.
Share your tips please.. even if this is the most boring thread ever.;D

Re: Sweet cleaning tips you never even thought of
When washing your windows or glass, wash as normal then finish thm off with a sheet of newspaper. The paper soals up all the extra moisture and the ink in the paper for some reason stops streaks.

Re: Sweet cleaning tips you never even thought of
Not really a "omg this is so clean" tip but I do it often..
When I'm using a babywipe to take makeup off or a makeup wipe in the bathroom, before throwing it away I do a once over in the sink and counter to collect any makeup spills or powder. This makes the bathroom stay pretty clean for a while between cleans.

Removing Blood Stains
Corn starch can remove blood stains. Rinse the stain in cold water, then rub in moistened cornstarch. Place the item in the sun.
Removing Gum
Gum can be removed using ice to harden and a dull knife to remove.
Removing Magic Marker Ink
Hair spray will remove magic-marker ink from surfaces.
Removing Smoke Odor
Place a bowl of vinegar out to absorb smoke odor.
Dusting Tip
Use paint brushes to dust cracks and hard to reach places in telephones, stereos, etc.
Cleaning the Sink
* For light stains, rub with a fresh cut lemon.
* For dark stains (like rust) rub with a paste of borax and lemon juice.
This site has tons :)

Re: Sweet cleaning tips you never even thought of
If you ever stain a carpet with wax, put newspaper on it and use a hot iron to iron it off the floor and into the paper. Since the paper is more porous, it'll lift off the carpet.

Club Soda/Seltzer Water will take any fresh stain out of your carpet. Use a clean soft cloth and blot don't rub.

Re: Sweet cleaning tips you never even thought of
No great tips, but does anyone know how to get stains out of lineolium (vinyl) floor? Bunny pee, newpaper:(
I've tried, powder cleanser, bleach spray, it gets some out, but it looks bad. I should probaly replace it, but can't. Thanks

Re: Sweet cleaning tips you never even thought of
Use baking soda as a mild abrasive. Mixed with a "green" cleaner, it's a lot less harsh than abrasive bleaches.

Re: Sweet cleaning tips you never even thought of
If you spill red wine on the carpet, cover it with a heap of salt and leave overnight. When you vacuum over it the next day, the wine stain will be completely gone.

Yep, my old accountsgot the bouncing email thing and I couldn't log in. I started this new one last year, but it wouldn't work either. Then I moved and an old customer was trying to trail me online, so I took a break from SW. I missed it lots, though, and am happy to be back. Good to see you Whirlerz :)

ooh, good one! A few years back I ruined a fantastic towel by spilling candle wax on it. I must have sat there for an hour trying to pick the wax out before I gave up.

This one really does work. I lived in a flat with cream carpets with a bf who loved to drink (an spill) red wine. You have to get the salt on immediately tho but if you do this trick really is a god send.

Heavy water mineral build up in a container? Vindegar and hot water soaking.
I did this with my water boiler that would never go clean... it is clean as a whistle now. I generally wash anything I clean with vinegar 2-4 times afterword.

Re: Sweet cleaning tips you never even thought of
I spilled red wine on the carpet of an apartment I was renting - I free poured hydrogen peroxide (3%) the kind you buy at the drugstore to clean a cut-----and the wine stain completely disappeared. So now I use it for everything - coffee, tea, and it is especially effective on blood.
Toothpaste cleans costume jewelry like new! Ever have fake silver earrings or necklace - costume jewelry for work - go dark and oxidized? Put a blob in your palm of your hand rub your hands together with a bit of water to get it lathering - and then wash up your jewelry rubbing it up between your hands, then rinse clean!!! Its amazing how well this works.:D

To get old dry erase marker off of stuff, use fresh dry erase marker and color over it, then erase it all. Very easy.

If you have a really dirty microwave, you put a few drops of Dawn dishwashing liquid in a bowl of water put it in the microwave, heat it on high for 5 minutes (do NOT use a plastic bowl, only a glass, microwave friendly one). Carefully remove the bowl (super hot) and with a paper towel, wipe the inside of the microwave down. Everything should just wipe off easily.

I like that tip because it's good for your skin and it's kinda 'green' since you're re-using the babywipe. :highfive:
I don't know any tips off the top of my head, but I'll come back if I think of any.

Re: Sweet cleaning tips you never even thought of
Windex is good for cleaning durasuede and mircosuede couches.
My friend figured this out. She was using the cleaning solution that came with her couches and realized it smells just like windex. When she ran out of the solution she started using windex and it works the exact same.
