Post op and crying like crazy...Please please plesae help
Ok, so I need some help...
First of all, I just had septo/rhinoplasty and I'm so fucking sensitive I can't stand it. My bandages itch, my throat hurts, and my painkillers are wearing off everyfour hours and I can't get any decent sleep b/c I can't go to the pharmacy and get more sleeping pills. Im staying at a hotel and I feel so bad for the staff b/c I keep crying EVERY time any of them come by. My face is swollen, I can't wash my hair, I can't stay coherent for a long time. And what's worse, I can't speak to spanish or english it is taking me twenty min to write this shit b/c I am so slow and stupid and emotional.
Is there anything I can take to help with the crying/mood swings?!! I will take ANY adivcie, please. :'( :'( :'(

Re: Post op and crying like crazy...Please please plesae help
i don't recommend taking anything else on top of the painkillers. i say just rest as much as you can and try and watch movies or do whatever possible (i know you can't do much) to keep your mind off of it.
it'll pass and you'll feel better. the body is an amazing thing and you'll be feeling better soon. it's just that healing hurts. also, the painkillers could actually be causing your mood swings. not to mention pain does a lot to the psyche. severe pain can make you mentally exhausted.

Maybe try some chamomile tea or warm milk to relax you and help you sleep. I wouldn't take anything else that hasn't been instructed by a doctor in case of some bad side effects.
I really hope you feel better soon.

I had major work done on my nose due to sinus problems .
It was the WORST feeling for the first few days, but it was the BEST feeling once it healed. I never regreted having it done after the first couple of weeks.
Just chill. Be careful about mixing pain pills, sleeping pills, and anything else.

You poor thing, I second the tea option or maybe some hot cholate, sweet hot drinks always calm me down when I'm feeling fragile. Call a friend or watch a movie, once you calm down and take your mind off the pain you might drift off to sleep.

Thanks, everyone! I think the warm tea would be a great idea, but I can't have warm milk and stuff likethatbe cause the doctor says no dairy. :(

Re: Post op and crying like crazy...Please please plesae help
Like everyone else said just do simple things to take your mind off the pain that you like: watching movies, TV, reading a book, magazines, etc. Just think of how great your nose will look once it's all healed, I'm sure the pain will be worth it then!

Awww, thanks girlie! I know it's been hectic on your end, so just call whenever you get a sec. I didn't say anything about the surgery cuz I didn't want you to worry.

Its normal to feel like complete and utter crap post surgery. Its normal to feel depressed and crying too. You need a hug and some more painkillers.
This is the part where you go "I feel like total crap" then pass out again from pain killers. Trust me in a few days you're feelings will change and in a few weeks you'll feel totally different. Keep up the vitamins and try not to get sick while you're healing there.

i.breathe.in, I hate the painkillers but they are really helping me not bang my head into a fuckin wall right now, so I have to keep taking them.
TM, you're right. My cousin brought me to her house and got me some food and I'm just gonna stay here for a while.

Painkillers DEFINITELY affect your emotions. Just remember- you are NOT crazy, bitchy, etc. You are in pain. You have a reason to cry, scream, etc.
Feel better

Thanks, BG!!
Also, does anyone know any tricks to not blow my nose? I am so tempted and I'm trying to psyche myself into not doing it.

hey honey! What you are experiencing is normal and to be expected post op. It is very very common to feel emotional and sightly depressed.
If you are unhappy with your medication and or would prefer to try something else, don't hesitate to contact your PS office.
What painkillers are you taking? I loved Percocet when I had my C section... really reduced the pain and knocked me the eff out. I had the best sleep while taking Percocet.
:hugs:

^what I was gonna say. Although if you are having trouble sleeping you definitely need to call your Doc. They would either be able to prescribe you something or let you know what type of OTC sleeping pills would be safe to mix with your pain meds.
Feel better soon!

DON'T DO IT!
You might start a horrible nose bleed like I did!
I'm sorry your doctor didn't give you anything for the mood swings. I was perscribed steroids for a week, which was for swelling, but also improved my mood. What pain killers are you on? You should call your doctor and ask if you can take Bromelain and Arnica pills for the bruising/swelling.

sleepsleepsleepsleep. Sleeping, if you can, has got to be the best way to get through this, as well as expedite your healing.

Re: Post op and crying like crazy...Please please plesae help
Thanks, again ladies!! I fell asleep again for a little while, but it was still uncomfortable.
I am taking hydrocodone, BTW. Does anyone know about that?
I also got some Will Ferrell movies (I love him) and some chamomile tea over here at my cousin's house. I'm gonna page the PS if I'm still super sad tomorrow, b/c I hate crying and right now it's really gross looking and sounding when I cry. :yuck:
ETA: Brendita, I had some arnica, but I'm pretty sure the housekeeper took the tiny little bottle it was in, so I have to wait til tomorrow to get some more when I can send my cousin to the store.
I also really want some ice cream. lol.
Ladies thank you SOOOOOOOOOOO much for your encouragement. No one else in my family even knows I'm doing this cuz I knew they wouldn't be supportive, so only my cousin and boyfriend know about it and it's kinda hard. So thanks again, all of you :grouphug:
