It's one that fully covers your genitals with (double-sided?) material. It looks like this, except you don't pull it up all 80's style, lol.
A tback is thicker than a thong, but the main important thing about a tback is that it has at least one inch of fabric in the back... let me see if I can find a picture... but you know what I mean? A gstring in the back is just a string.... that string has to be a one inch band of fabric.
legal, depends on your state. ;)
ohh i get it now! lol it's kind of more like a thong than a gstring i guess. does it have to be made out of any certain material?
^ no. it just has to be a certain width depending on your club. some require 2 inch wide (we're talking in the back), some 3. ask the club.
Definitely ask your club, it's different everywhere. Where I danced this was acceptable:

It covered you kitty and it looked like a g-string made out of bathing suit like material that kept it from moving around when you danced.

*cough* From the Newbie FAQ:
If you are dancing topless, you will need to make sure that your thong is legal. A standard legal thong is different from thong underwear. It’s made of sturdier material, like swimsuit material, and is fully lined. It’s best to buy it from a local shop that caters to dancers or from an online site that does the same. The clubs can tell you where to go in your area to find dancewear.
