weekend commentary - Russian troops marching again to the beat of $120+ oil !
Re: weekend commentary - Russian troops marching again to the beat of $120+ oil !
I remember when Clinton and Yeltsin were getting along great, and I assumed it was because they were both hard-drinkin', hard-partyin' good ol' boys and found a common thread at that level, despite other language and cultural differences.
Now there's Putin, who's more interested in projecting military strength than economic strength, who's more interested in building national loyalty through trumpeting up dangers from outside rather than the citizens' own sense of well-being.
So he and Bush should get along fine.

^^^ except for American missiles being stationed in eastern Europe and 'the Stans', which stand as a huge obstacle to any Putin plan of reconstituting a Soviet Union.

Russia is ruined, they may as well just blow everything up and start over.
Re: weekend commentary - Russian troops marching again to the beat of $120+ oil !
actually, Russia is rising again as a powerhouse ... with the source of that power being oil and gas export revenues to Europe. You may want to Google the results of last year's short curtailment of Russian gas exports !! Putin's hand is still on the spigot, despite the fact that he is no longer president but prime minister ...

I respectfully disagree, trillions in gas and oil can't save them. The government is riddled with blatant corruption, the military is in massive dissaray. They can't come back from that, as much as they may want to.
