Too fast at everything... health issues?
I only started thinking about this today. I'm fast. At everything. I eat meals in less than ten minutes, I can pee, poo, wash hands and be out on the floor again in less than thirty seconds...
yesterday I was reading on the plane and I finally counted and I read 100 pages an hour!! I was on the flight for exactly two hours and read 201 pages!!
And I type at 110wpm.
And I once held the record in primary school for speedtalking. Everyone can tell you I talk super fast.
And it started to hit me. I'm always fast. My shows are fast paces, my reading, my showers, my toilet times, my eating... everything I do is quick. There's no reason for it, it's just something I do.
I started to wonder if it could cause health problems or could be CAUSED by a health problem. I never once thought of going to the doctor with, "I'm too fast... at everything." So they might've never caught on if it was important.
Could this damage my heart? I have sleeping problems I feel are directly related and a few small memory issues I also am curious about. I've always had a high metabolism but I wonder if my flitting around like a hummingbird all the time is either BECAUSE of a health issue (maybe an overactive something?) or could CAUSE a health issue.
Seriously. Compared to everyone I know, I'm quicker at everything.

I can focus just fine on tasks. I'm just fast.

Re: Too fast at everything... health issues?
Eventually it could affect your adrenals which will end up manifesting itself as a thyroid disorder. But that's really if you're not balancing all your speed out with time to totally veg and relax or breathe fully (instead of shallow). There are a lot of factors. But basically, I'd just make sure I took like an hour a day to totally veg.
Going fast 24/7 means your body is constantly in a sympathetic mode aka fight/flight. This is one of the reasons why people who run on coffee or other stimulants have problems down the road. You might not need a stimulant for the bursts of energy but it still has it's effects on the organs/glands.

Re: Too fast at everything... health issues?
I have a very hard time relaxing or veging. It's very difficult for me. Even when I force myself it barely works. :/ It's part of the speed/adrenaline, I think.
I'm starting to wonder if my body produces adrenaline poorly.
It's not even 'bursts' of energy. Ask anyone who knows me - I just simply don't stop until I'm falling over from exhaustion and that's the only way I can sleep. I can't even sleep unless I've exhausted my energy supply - and that's a pretty high number.
...hmm... with the information I'm getting it seems I really SHOULD see a specialist about this.

Re: Too fast at everything... health issues?
^^^^ Yeah I'd see a holistic specialist.
Is it nervous energy?
-
Re: Too fast at everything... health issues?
Not really. It's been all my life, the energy. I'm fairly laid back. It's just... a shitload of energy. I'm not a nervous person anymore. I used to be.
Now it's just like... energy energy energy.... I don't stop. I won't stop doing things -a LOT of things- until around 2am tomorrow. I'll work a lot, I'll eat quickly, I'll pee quickly, I'll talk quickly, I'll drink quickly. Every single thing I do or have ever done people say, "Wow, that was quick!"
And it's totally not nervous.

Re: Too fast at everything... health issues?
Find a Chi Kung class. Or Tai Chi. Or any meditation type of class. It'll drive you nuts at first! lol

Re: Too fast at everything... health issues?
I meditate. Just... very quickly. :D I even breathe properly and check I'm breathing properly. Hahaha. But I'll look into it and see if it helps.
It's not so much I wanna slow down, I just wanna know if it's caused by something that may be hurtful to my health.
I like being able to get everything cleaned in my house in thirty minutes. :P
I just don't want a heart attack at 26. D:
Yes... classes. Will look into.
THANK YOU.

You know what's funny? When I saw this thread from the main forums page, I knew it was gonna be you who posted it, even though Ahmeerah had been the last to reply.

Re: Too fast at everything... health issues?
I'm a fast person too. Read fast (150 pages per hour), walk fast, talk fast, type fast (80wpm), drive fast, pee fast, shower fast. But my resting heart rate is 59 bpm, so I'm not worried about stressing myself out. I relax plenty and I try to get enough sleep each night (and usually succeed).
As for having so much energy that you can only sleep if you physically exhaust yourself, *that* I would get checked out.

Re: Too fast at everything... health issues?
Does your heart beat fast?
I'm a quick person too; I don't think it's an issue, really. I have to be mindful to watch my walking speed when I'm with people, and i always get complimented on my fast pees (lol!). But my resting heartrate is low, so I think I'm generally OK.
I learned recently about a quality that people with fast metabolisms have, called Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (NEAT). It describes me to a T...always moving, fidgeting, flexing, stretching and generally speeding around. Perhaps it's just part of your metabolic makeup?

Re: Too fast at everything... health issues?
^ I've heard that too. I'm a fidgeter too. Hey, at least it's good for something!

Re: Too fast at everything... health issues?
I have the same problem, although I dont have the attention span for many things - it depends what they are. I can sleep ok too.
Im trying to work on it.
By the way - theres on thing I do way faster than you - walk, lol. I kept having to slow my pace yesterday!

My feet hurt. I'd be walking 4 days straight!

Re: Too fast at everything... health issues?
You're a hummingbird. I knew that already!

Re: Too fast at everything... health issues?
You may also want to take a calcium/magnesium supplement. When your body is in "constant speed" and all, it can drain those minerals.
Taking calcium/magnesium supplements daily can help you relax. It really does work wonders.
I am the exact same way, though. I do everything fast. It must be why I lose weight when I'm preggers (although I do gain baby weight). The extra metabolism boost from being preggers added to my already "get it all done now" stuff. My heartrate is 62/70.

Re: Too fast at everything... health issues?
i can so much relate to you! the holistic/natural medicine guy that i work with says i'm like an adrenaline junky, but not like i have to do wacky things like bungey jump all over the place, but that my adrenals are always pumping in over drive making me be all speedy gonzales. i've always been quite active, and when i was small, i was called adhd. i recently started taking drenamin, which is a supplement to support the adrenals, and it's helping me sleep, but i'm still pretty hyper and fast paced.

Re: Too fast at everything... health issues?
Talked to my nurse friend. All my stats are normal. He can't forsee any issues.

Re: Too fast at everything... health issues?
^^^Re meditation - maybe try walking meditation. My friend does it in Brisbane - its slow, really slow and she found it quite a challenge because you have to slow down to do it. Meditating fast doesnt sound like proper meditation.
Re magnesium - nurses and drs generally dont know about that sort of thing. I told you about the magnesium before - I actually think its at least part of my problem too. Its worth seeking out a good alternative practitioner (-:

Re: Too fast at everything... health issues?
I'm with you on this,I also do everything, especially think at warp-speed!
Yoga has helped me a lot...I find I listen to the instructors voice, focus better, and breath deeper when I'm in class therefore forcing me to slow down a bit for an hour or so...
It's frustrating when the rest of the world is "slower",LOL!

Re: Too fast at everything... health issues?
Heh. I'm imagining fast meditation.
*scramble into lotus position*
OMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM I'm enlightened! Okay, done.
*gets up*

Re: Too fast at everything... health issues?
^ Pretty much! Hahaha.
I only meditate maybe ten minutes and I feel pretty good. :P
