help me with this pole trick!
the one where you're upside down, holding onto the pole with both hands behind you and your back to the pole. legs are bent so that they almost touch your head.
i keep slipping down the pole when i try this! is it just about hand grip strength? any tips? maybe an easier way to position your hands?
thanks!
Re: help me with this pole trick!
I'm not a pole expert, but I'm having a hard time picturing this. You had me up until the bent legs part.. Could you maybe find a picture? Or at least draw it on paint or something?
Re: help me with this pole trick!
Climb the pole and then lean back with one leg crossed over the other. Then when you feel secure, let that hand go and put both your hands on the pole behind you. Then uncross legs. Kinda hard to explain but hope that helps!
Re: help me with this pole trick!
Make sure you are really dry and the pole is really clean. When I first tried that trick, I would also press my (unclothed) back against the pole for some extra friction as I pulled my leg up. If you feel you are losing your grip, hurry through the trick and grab on to the pole with crossed legs at the top, then sit up.
I keep a gym towel with me on stage if I know I'm going to get really sweaty. That way I can wipe off for the more difficult pole tricks.
Re: help me with this pole trick!
^^^not that one
its this i think:
climb the pole. cross your leg and lean back described by Flaka. Then you grab the pole with both hands while upside down. secure yourself uncross your legs and dangle. arch your back for better visual effect. Do this very slow. When you are mastering this trick you need to balance correctly
Re: help me with this pole trick!
I have dreams i can do that trick :)
Re: help me with this pole trick!
FOr sure DONT TRY THIS without a spotter.
I'd recommend takign it s tep by step. Before doing the lean back thing that has already been mentioned, I'd practice just s tanding on the ground, bending forward and grabbing the pole, and kicking up(almost like a handstand). This makes it easier to get your balance, and stregnthen your grip. THEN you can work into it the way the other girls described, with the invert, and then gripping the pole and uncrossing yoru legs.
Re: help me with this pole trick!
Yeah be very careful! I fell off my pole yesterday and am in serious pain!
Re: help me with this pole trick!
You need to take off at least a week before trying this again because of your injury . You might think it feels better, but if you hit the wrong spot you could have serious trauma.
Clean your hands and legs and the pole with alcohol and a cotton clothe. Then use a small dab of gillete on your hands and legs. This will help you grip much better.
Re: help me with this pole trick!
Ack, I was trying to figure this out today!
Re: help me with this pole trick!
thanks everyone! yeah, that's the trick Irelynx. i know how to get into it (i start by crossing my legs around the pole then leaning back) and i've almost got it, but i slide down whenever i try it. is it just that i need to build up my grip? that's what i was having difficulty with.
Re: help me with this pole trick!
Back in the day when I could do cool pole shit like that (stupid short LaBo poles) I just used a fine coating of PrinceGrip to keep my hands grippy.
Re: help me with this pole trick!
This is one of my favorites. I find that it works better for me if I don't keep both hands together, but actually separate them a bit. I put my dominant hand a little higher than the other one.
Re: help me with this pole trick!
Called the "Rubber Pencil...or Lunchbox"..this is NOT a beginner move.
If you do not have the strength in the shoulder girdle as well as the core control...you WILL hurt yourself!

Re: help me with this pole trick!
They have grip strengtheners that you can get at walmart and academy. You squeeze them over and over.
When I do that trick it helps me if my hands are split. My strong one goes above my weak one and I concentrate on getting tight so I have less wobble to contend with. (My cheer background I guess. The tighter you make your muscles the less you wiggle.)
Also alena teaches great excercises to strengthen up your body and grip when you do a class with her.
Re: help me with this pole trick!
Rosin bag, hair spray or Firm Grip will help prevent you from sliding too.
