Ever Made Money Off Blogging?
I just found this ad on SD Craigslist:
http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/wri/722628968.html
and here's the website it leads me to:
www.today.com/apply
I'm really interested in the potential for motivating myself with cash to practice writing! I can write about so much! I can't stand MySpace (too many strangers) but blogging is attractive to me because its just like keeping a diary online.
The pay rate seems really low but again, its mostly for the practice. Has anyone ever done this? If I posted my blog address, would anyone on here read it? They pay you based on how popular your blog becomes and if you can expand your readership.
The only thing that would maybe be weird is I want an outlet to write more about my experiences dancing but I don't want it to become a focal point and I don't want to have it overlap and disrupt my real life or my business. What if my custies see it and I'm talking about my husband? Since I get paid based on readership, should I just say fuck it and sort of advertise it? I feel like it could be a great way to maintain contact with regulars that I've had overseas but it could backfire.
I also wouldn't want my family to see it but I just wouldn't tell them in the first place, so I guess that's less of an issue.
Also, I would need a catchy name. I'm tossing some around right now but suggestions would be awesome. I'm really enthusiastic about this! Writing is a healthy hobby and I know people love to read about strippers. When I was publishing/distributing books in the Bay Area, the best-sellers out of the feminist publishers were nearly all about strippers and sex-workers. I won't get rich quick but its a good start, right?:D
So, tell me what do you think?! Positive or negative, I want to hear it all. Especially from those who may have done this before.
Thanks, all!

Well a dollar or two per post is not very much money, is it? That's at most 60 dollars month, and most days you wont make thousand word posts, so that's the high end.Do you retain copyright ownership of your writing (sorry I don't know the legal jargon- basically, do they own it after you post it)? I'd want to know that before I started.
I still think you should do it. Practice your writing. Who knows what might come of it.

Yeah, that's something I'm trying to find fine print about. I was thinking the same thing. I can only assume they have the rights to everything I submit. Like freelancing or indy-contracting They own the forum and therefore the content. I just make commission.

associatedcontent is better if you are wanting to make a little money and not jump into 'my blog is my job' waters.

^^
That makes more sense to me. I'll check it out. Its more just like an experiment in writing for money. Not a job at all.
Re: Ever Made Money Off Blogging?
Go for it!!
Also consider that people like Tucker Max became famous, then wrote a book, and made a movie all based on their blog :)
