beautician burned me with hot wax
I got my eyebrows waxed yesterday and the skin under my left eyebrow is burnt. It was really sore afterwards and it's still red and a bit swollen. I get my eyebrows waxed all the time so I know it's not normal for me.
What can I put on it to get rid of the redness? Is there something to soothe the burn too, it's really sore?

Thanks!!
Weird thing is it didn't hurt or feel too hot when she put it on but straight after it was really sore.

Re: beautician burned me with hot wax
Take some pis and go back and complain. You deserve e refund, that beatician is incompetant, she could have really hurt you.

Re: beautician burned me with hot wax
it may not have burned you it could have been an allergic reaction to the wax or the wax could have been applied wrong and taken some skin with it.

Re: beautician burned me with hot wax
I am sorry that happened to you. I have heard great things about aloe etc but if it to bad I would ask a doctor to prevent a scar.
I had a nightmare eye brow wax once and I am always still a little scared right before they rip the wax off to this day.
It was my first eye brow wax, I just went in to a salon I knew nothing about , I just saw on thier sign they did waxing, I asked for an eye brow wax .
I asked the lady how long she had been doing it and she said she had for three years, she put the wax on everything seemed fine for a sec but I felt it burning, it was so hot I said WOW that is really hurting !
She then just applied the strip to take the wax off and told me it always hurts the first time and ripped it off, I knew something was not right because I saw my skin on the strip, she had ripped layers of my skin OFF!!
Obviously she never had a chance to finish, I left and made an appointment with my doctor because I was so afraid of scarring, I did scar and still have a scar above my eye that is still noticable if I do not cover it.
It was a terrible situation and she should have known better, I learnt to definetly check out who does any work of my fce from then on.

Re: beautician burned me with hot wax
I second that your skin probably got ripped off with the wax vs a burn. Sadly when I used to wax my own brows it happened all the time on my left side because of the angle I pulled the muslin off with my right hand. Ouch! It always made a thin scab and peeled off 3-4 days later. Aloe is my product of choice. :)

Re: beautician burned me with hot wax
Aren't you the one who posted about using Retinol A? Vitamin A makes your skin exfoliate itself and you are not supposed to get waxed when using a kind of exfoliate like that.

theres actually a easy way to solve that, just use a little powder face or baby on the areas to be waxed. dust off the excess and then wax as normal, then the wax doesnt stick to your skin.

Exactly, waxing is a no no while using Retin-A. I imagine the same would be true for retinol as well.

Re: beautician burned me with hot wax
I'd recommend some aloe vera. I'd also complain on her, they are suppose to test it on the back of their hand before applying it.

Re: beautician burned me with hot wax
Oh, fuck, you can't wax with Retin A. She should have asked you that first. She could take your first layer of skin off.

Powder actually helps wax to adhere better to the skin... but yes, you're skin was probably lifted, it's actually very common-especially if you use retin A or if you're just sensitive like me. My co-worker who's the salon esthetician has to use a softer wax on me... she ends up tweezing me more that her clients who can use her regular wax but I haven't lifted since.

You may be allergic to it. I agree to go back in there and show her what she's done to your face. Make sure you dont put any makeup or anything on it..last thing we wanna do is have you further irritate the skin.

I did! Always cleansed, let that air dry, powder, pull my skin taught and go for it. It was only ever my left eye, finally I gave up and got some one else in the spa to do it. :boggled:

Re: beautician burned me with hot wax
damn I feel your pain.I used to wax all the time, then when I started using tazorac (acne medication) i would end up with burns all around my eyebrows. They hurt so bad and would scab making it hard to hide under makeup. Then at a derm appointment my doctor told me I can't wax while using my medication.I switch over to threading and I love the results way more than waxing.

Re: beautician burned me with hot wax
It's def torn off skin rather than a burn!! I can see it more clearly now and the skin is missing from that spot. It is still bright red and sore :'(

No it doesn't matter. The medication still affects the skin surrounding where you've applied. If you're going to wax it's recommended that you stop applying retin-a for at least 3 days. I like to stop for at least 5 though, I've ripped my eyebrows and upper lip before. Don't mess with the scab and you should be ok. In the future before you have any type of facial treatments (waxing, facial, chemical peels) make sure the provider knows you are using retin-a so they can advise/treat you properly.

Re: beautician burned me with hot wax
You might want to try using the fluid from vitamin E capsules to prevent scarring. I still have scars from my first (and only!) wax job 6 years ago, when the lady ripped off my eyelids.

Re: beautician burned me with hot wax
You should definitely go back and complain!
The same thing happened to my roommate (although, the spot she ripped off was in her eyebrow, so she had a big scab where her eyebrow would be and then when it healed, had a gap in her eyebrow). The spa manager ended up fixing it for her and I believe the esthetician got fired. (They'd had another complaint against her, I think.)
