Have any of you taken any personality assessments like StrengthsFinder or Myers Briggs? If you have taken one, have you used that knowledge to fine tune your "game" to get more dances?
I've taken the Myers-Briggs. The results were interesting, but it hasn't influenced my game at all, not directly anyways. It was just info that I intuitively knew anyways, but I think it made it more obvious that I would have to work harder in certain areas. What did ultimately help my game most was identifying the differences between successful and unsuccessful dancers, learning and applying sales techniques, and studying body language.
What's your Myers-Briggs type? I'm an ENFJ. That assessment itself probably wouldn't have done much for you. People who have used the StrengthsFinder find that VERY helpful. Basically that assessment shows people what they naturally gravitate towards doing and helps them use that more to be more successful in everything from schoolwork to business and relationshisp. For example, my guess is that you're IN (Introverted iNtuition) so you are probably naturally shy and the reason you went to body language, sales techniques, etc is to help yourself "get over" that and that's awesome it worked! What I see beneath that is a possibility that you beneath that you have underlying "strengths" of learning and accomplishing things and by relying on those natural ways of doing things became more successful.
Of course I could be totally off because I'm guessing things about you based one ONE post I read from you :)
I dated an Intel Analyst and he made me take it so he could suss me out, LOL
Seriously though, listening to intelligent customers can help a dancer gauge her strong points as a hustler/companion. A customer with an IQ of 145 (he was scary smart) helped me understand how to work with what I have to hone my sales skills.
I like the Color Code system.
3.3 Problems involved in sentences Most students in China may write wordy sentences. They usually use the method of one-word-for-one-word translations. Their sentences contain many unnecessary words. Like the followingselected from students:(1) It was blue in color. It was small in size.Vicky is a quiet and careful girl.He returned in the early part of the month of August.(2) The old engineer in collaboration with some or her younger colleagues jage of Conan gold[/URL]ointly designed this machine. The above sentences could be called Chinese-English that refers to speech or writing in English that shows the interference or influence of Chinese thinking patterns. Some sentences may be word for word translations of Chinese expressions. Chinese English may be grammatically correct, but the choice of phrases and the manner of expression do not conform to normal English usage, though understanding may not be a problem, it is absurd to English people. If the idea is fully expressed, the fewer words are used, the better. Wordiness only obscures, instead of clarifying the idea. The sentence “it was blue in color” in which the phrase “in color” is unnecessary, as we know blue is a kind of color. The word “jointly” is equivalent to the phrase “in collaboration with”. Therefore, the sentences can be corrected in this way:(1) It was blue. It was small. Vicky is quiet and careful. He returned in early August.(2) This machine was designed by the old engineer in collaboration with some of his younger colleagues or revised this machine was jointly designed by the old engineer and some of his younger colleagues.3.4 Problems involved in paragraphs Illogical or reversing of the topic sentence or no topic sentence always can be seen in the students’ writing. Take a look at the following paragraph selected from English writing for TEM-4:They never get up before 9 o’clock to have their breakfast. In the morning, most of themwill stay in the washroom to wash their clothes. After lunch, if weather permits, they go for an outing with their classmates; or they spend a whole afternoon in the library, reviewing lessons or reading recent periodicals. They all get together in the dormitory in the evening, singing and chattering until they feel tired. University students always have a good relaxation on SundaysHaving a glance at the above paragraph, you would say it has no errors, but closer check it, you will find something goes wrong. The above paragraph is a typical Chinese writing, because they often put the topic sentence at the beginning of the paragraph in English writing. Therefore, we should put the last sentence at the beginning of the paragraph which makes it much more conform to the English writing form.
I took one in college as part of a career test and it didnt tell me anything I didnt already know :P lol
I took the color test britney posted and scored highest in green and lowest in yellow. ironically i LOVE green and wear green all the time at work. I wasnt able to find out their explanation of the colors in the color profile because i took the test from my phone. Im guessing green relates to intelligence, wealth, growth, and such. On a side note I have researched color meanings and relations before picking certain outfits, and surprisingly there is a small link between my outfit color choice and customer spending. Sorry to go off topic :P
I am an INFP and am nurturing but have always struggled to be a very social person in general. I do better one and one and don't do so hot with crowds. In this fast-paced, mostly extraverted world I have a hard time keeping up.
I obviously do well with it though. I had the highest products sales at my school out of 70 students for April. I also was always one of the highest earners when I danced.
That's awesome!! It's great that you know who you are and that yes, it is hard for introverts to deal with this "extroverted" world. Like you said, I'm sure you lean towards one-on-one time along with your nurturing side to sell. I bet you spent lots of time after work just sitting alone and recharging your batteries (no, not those kind.....haha). You probably got a lot of dances from introverted guys because you communicated well together and it seemed like you "understood" him.
One of the biggest lessons for people who take these assessments can learn is how different people communicate. For example, Extroverts *usually* just talk and talk and talk....and don't have problems interrupting or getting interrupted. Oh the other hand Introverts *usually* will take in some information, hear it, digest it, and think of what they want to say. So when they get interrupted it they don't like it because it's hard enough for a lot of them to even say something so it just makes it harder for them to say something again. And since people usually treat others like THEY like to be treated if someone is an introvert their communication style will be similar and they might "click" better. That is....unless they both sit there quietly ;)
^Yeah, I know. I don't like to get interrupted a lot because I lose my train of thought and forget what I was going to say, lol.
I just took it and apparently am an ISTJ. It said that I'm really sensitive and a little introverted which is no suprise whatsoever. I tend to be shy, fiercely loyal, and have a penchant for being an untrained, unpaid therapist, lol.
How exactly this is supposed to help me as a stripper is a fine question indeed.
I'm shy thus making me a less than spectacular stripper...this was a fact already known. I'm also flat-out spineless which really dosn't help. How to overcome said shyness and grow a backbone is a totally different question and one whose answer I am yet to figure out.
Green, I am exactly the same! I'm INFP, and I always do well with individuals, and I tend to bank on less busy nights, weird as it sounds. I feel way better in a smaller crowd, and I become more confident too.
^Yeppers:)
Ohh yah, I'm sure most of you know I'm not a dancer (so please don't jump on me about that, I'm not giving "advice", just my opinion based on my knowledge of personality types (yes, I am certified in the Myers Briggs assessment). LOL, I'm laughing at myself because this sounds like a sales pitch but I just have a passion for coaching and developing people so this is fun to me. Anyway, continue reading if you want ... :)
Well, the Myers-Briggs IMO is mostly useful for helping people see and understand who they are and how they work and then understanding that other people are different...sometimes MUCH different. Even just that basic understanding between Extroverts and Introverts can be very useful (especially in relationships).
It looks like there are a lot of Introverts here (greenid, amartica, curiousseeker, mollyz). That's awesome!! I bet you all love the fact that you can sit here, read some stuff, digest it, come up with what you want to write and DO IT without being interrupted by some insensitive jerk. One thing I think might be helpful to the Introverts here is understanding that you GET YOUR ENERGY and recharge your batteries by being alone. After a long day of work (or even before work) take some time to yourself, make sure you won't be interrupt, make sure everything is quiet and take some time to yourself. Even 5-10 minutes will help you feel more energized and refreshed. And as most of you have noticed Introverts do better with smaller crowds and one-on-one settings.
The one assessment I think helps EVERYONE out the most is the . You can find the book on for about $20 for the more expanded version or $12 for the condensed one. You take an online assessment that shows you what you're naturally good/gifted at and how to use that to be successful in school, work, etc. One friend I worked with HATED work but then she took the assessment and I showed her how she was fighting against her natural tendencies and once she embodied them began to love her job and even made some more money.
I'm mostly a yellow, it states that I am very caring and trying to bring harmony to everyone around me and not expressing myself like I should. man its weird when a online test can tell you a lot about yourself.
LOL, yes it is. I remember when I first went through my Myers-Briggs training and my instructor nailed exactly who I am after barely talking to me. Of course now I've done this assessment with literally more than a thousand people so after talking to people for 5-10 minutes I can usually guess pretty accurate a lot of things about them. And if you take the MBTI and StrengthsFinder I can tell you 80% of how you are and act and probably even point out a few things you do that you never realized but your friends nod and just say, OMG TOTALLY!!! It makes for a great bar trick. haha
^ well, would you tell me?
there's no choice on the poll for "i've taken them, i get them, but i have no clue how to use them to my advantage"
i'm an intp and have been every time i've taken that test in the last 10 years.
and i just took the color thing and got (in order): green, yellow (both pretty strong), red, blue (both pretty weak).
i used to do alright finding the one or two guys i could bank on because we clicked, and i had a wonderful time with them too. but now it's harder, and i need to learn how to be more social.
For sure! I just sent you a PM. The Myers-Briggs thing is mostly useful for helping to realize things about yourself (like that you are an introvert and less likely to be a "social butterfly"). I really recommend getting that StrengthsFinder book because their assessment telling you what your strengths are is how you will figure out how to become more social and overcome that part of your personality that is making things harder in this setting.
