Sweet! Maybe I'm going to be an animal cop then :) I wonder if I should go for a degree in biology or criminal justice then?

My late cousin did some work with the Animal Control people and she was training as a forest ranger with the national parks. That's more wild animals though-resettling crocs from pools, taking in injured wild boars and stuff. She even took in an abandoned tiger once. Yeah, she was in FL.

You should become a game warden. They work with state and federal agencies to stop poaching and ticket law violators.
I worked with and for them- it is a serious job, with decent pay and benefits.
Re: Is there a such thing?
I have a friend who works as an animal control officer.
When there's a complaint, he invesigates it, confiscates the animal, oversees its rehabilitation, and follows up prosecuting in court.
In other instances, he gets called to help get animals out of damaged buildings/fires (he'll get called by the fire company), and even overturned trailers (last week, he had the job of walking horses across a highway...he said that was the worst job thus far).
I will warn you though, it is heartbreaking work.
He comes home devestated almost every day, because he found some poor starving puppies, or dogs with acid burns, or a horse with cigarette burns all over its body. And even when the cases are prosecuted, the people rarely get sentenced to more than a few weeks of jail or a small fine. But he feels like he has to, because he can at least get SOME animals away from horrible owners.
And depending on your area, there can be a lot of corruption. Many people confiscate, and resell for animal testing or to awful breeders. It's rough.

:( Animal control is very tough work...A friend of mine from high school worked at our local shelter and she was tough enough for it, but you'll see all kinds of animals suffering. It's bad when people do it through neglect and worse when they do it on purpose. You'd have to be able to "leave work at work" to surivive.
Here is a link to my old employer's website, in case you want to consider being a game warden
Re: Is there a such thing?
I've been wanting to do this for ages...I've even applied for a local position, but never heard back.

You could try to get a job working with a rescue organization, i.e., Pit Bull rescue or some such.
