sleep (plz read post before taking poll)
on -average- how long does it take you to fall asleep the majority of the time? this is not counting "getting ready for bed" or the "winding down" process (as in, if you read a book or watch a program while in bed before sleeping). just count the time from shut-eye to unconsciousness. i know it can vary a lot depending on what's going on in your life and etc, so.. a good average. :)
i'm just curious.

Re: sleep (plz read post before taking poll)
About an hour. Except when I'm in Vegas...then about 4 hours ::) .
I need sleep therapy I think.
Do you have trouble falling asleep Penny?

Re: sleep (plz read post before taking poll)
It really depends on whether or not I'm hot and bothered. If I feel cool I can go to sleep on the spot.

Re: sleep (plz read post before taking poll)
When I close my eyes, I'm out. Don't know exactly how long it takes me to fall asleep but I'd say it's probably five minutes or less. Of course I get occasional bouts of insomnia but for the most part, I fall asleep quickly and sleep well.

Re: sleep (plz read post before taking poll)
Same here, I fall asleep almost immediately. I like to really tire myself out before bed sometimes though.
-
Re: sleep (plz read post before taking poll)
For the most part about 15 minutes, unless I am super stressed.

Re: sleep (plz read post before taking poll)
AFTER I take my meds and read,etc....when I actually turn off the light and close my eyes it still takes 20-30 min average for me to actually fall asleep.
Without sleep meds I just wouldnt sleep most of the time..or It would take hours...

Re: sleep (plz read post before taking poll)
What if you fall asleep with the T.V. on?

Re: sleep (plz read post before taking poll)
I voted about 1-1.5 hrs. That's now that I'm older and calmer tho....and only if I work out regularly and control my caffeine intake. When I was younger it was 3 or 4 hours probably. I only averaged 2 or 3 hrs sleep a night back then. My hubby calms me sooooo much, I now get 7 or 8.

Re: sleep (plz read post before taking poll)
15-30 minutes I think. Unless I'm wound up, and then I usually get up an take some Melatonin.

Re: sleep (plz read post before taking poll)
Generally, once the lights are out, so am I. Once in a while, I have trouble getting to sleep so I'll watch tv or have a snack and it helps a lot. I also sometimes have trouble sleeping next to someone because I am constantly moving around and itching myself and am more aware of it when someone has their arm around me and try not to and in turn, it bothers me more.

For real! I think it's because my sleep pattern gets all out of wack but that's where Melatonin comes in ;)

Re: sleep (plz read post before taking poll)
I voted half an hour to an hour, but it's really more like this:
Go to bed with my boyfriend. Try to talk to him. He falls asleep instantly, which pisses me off because I'm still awake. Realize after 20 minutes I'm not going to fall asleep,so I get up and go on stripperweb for two or three hours until I'm totally tuckered out, THEN I go back to bed and force myself to try to sleep, and it takes about an hour for that to finally happen. Then I'm up three hours later, get up and get a glass of water, and go back to sleep yet again.
Weird I know. If I didn't force myself to go to sleep, I could easily stay up for 30 hours before feelinge exhausted. I normally get 4 hours to 6 hours of sleep a night. I have problems with the sleeping.

Re: sleep (plz read post before taking poll)
I can fall asleep in 5 minutes but staying asleep is the issue.

Re: sleep (plz read post before taking poll)
Out like a light, except if I'm unusually stressed, worried, or preoccupied. Those are rare occasions.
It's weird though, because I had terrible insomnia as a kid. I remember from ages 10 to about 16 I had such a rough time falling asleep. I would lie awake for hours and hours. It was hell. I think I was just a neurotic, worried girl. It's thankfully something I grew out of.

Re: sleep (plz read post before taking poll)
Takes me a very long time to fall asleep. Usually an hour or more before I fall asleep.
-
Re: sleep (plz read post before taking poll)
As soon as i shut my eyes I am out. Usually.

Re: sleep (plz read post before taking poll)
FYI, the average amount of time it takes someone to fall asleep is 7 minutes. </trivia>
I've gotten more insomniac as I've gotten older. I think part of this is hormonal (I'm prematurely menopausal, and one of the symptoms is insomnia, especially early awakening) so I should look into getting that fixed.

Re: sleep (plz read post before taking poll)
usually about 5 minutes.
lately... about half an hour to an hour. it sucks. i have never had sleep problems like this.

Re: sleep (plz read post before taking poll)
I doesn't take me very long at all. I would say five minutes at the absolute longest.

Re: sleep (plz read post before taking poll)

i started using masks which help me alot. its like i shut my eyes but they keep popping back open. with the mask your eyes stay shut.

Re: sleep (plz read post before taking poll)
An hour or an hour and a half... I'm always tired but not sleepy enough. I think I have a problem.

Hmmm, not to thread jack, but maybe I should get that looked into too. My periods are getting irregualr (def not pregnant, hubby is snipped) and even though CFiDS does cause sleep problems, they've gotten far worse lately. Hence the reason I'm posting this at quarter to 4 in the am! lol

Re: sleep (plz read post before taking poll)
i didnt vote; i dunno what to pick! when im working night shifts and come home i shower immediately then go to bed, but the shower wakes me up so it takes me muuuuch longer to fall asleep. about 1hr. when i worked day shift id shower and then do whatever else until bedtime. in that case i fall asleep in about 5minutes. the same time for none working nights/days. when i try to force myself to sleep (like trying 2 go 2 bed early bc i have to be up early) it will take hours for me to fall asleep. so i guess id say average 1 hr because ive been working 4/5days a week the past month. ill go vote now..... :D

Re: sleep (plz read post before taking poll)
Damn, I envy the insta-sleepers.
I think too much. I do usually take one-half to one hour to go to sleep, but I can't try early or I don't conk out at all. When I was a kid it took me about two hours; I was nocturnal then too but had an enforced bedtime.
