wtf ._.;
I hope that those little girls will be valued... probably not.
"Panwar had a difficult pregnancy. Singh said that he never thought his wife would make it through the pregnancy and that the in vitro treatments were painful. But she survived. "
If he didn't think she would make it through the pregnancy, then why the hell make her pregnant?
Guess having a son was THAT important.
On the bright side...at least the babies have older siblings to care for them.
Disgusting that a "male heir" is still important enough to risk lives for in some places.
Nothing shocks me anymore.
Oy Vey. :-\
Even though I am vehemently against what she did, men who father children in their 70s and 80s are not nearly as chastised and they do it all the time.
Gotta love the part where it says they used their life savings to pay for the in vitro. :( So the kids are going to grow up dirt fucking poor--and not only will they die by the time the kids are 10, they also won't be able to leave them any money, b/c they just HAD to have a spawn with a dick. Disgusting.
Ridiculous.
It's not just about 'having a dick' in Chinese cultures. If they don't have a male heir in the family, they can lose a lot more than their savings should they die. They probably couldn't even care for the female children withotu sending 10yr old boy to work because the girls couldn't work.
God man. I dunno even what to say to that. Menopause you'd think would render getting knocked up.
My father is 60 and has a 10 month old daughter, shit is rough on him. He always remarks how he more than likely will not see her become my age or at least remember her in 30 years. I' can't imagine becoming a parent at that age and KNOWING you will not see them become grandparents or even parents possibly.
Shit makes me sad :(
I think it's hellaciously irresponsible of whomever doctor did invitro fertilization on a 72 year old woman!! Shheeesh!!
Wow, I can't believe how irresponsible that is on so many levels....sad.
Do you mean Indian?
I get what it means in their culture (and it's not ALL about practicality and survival...some of it is about pride/social status). Regardless, in my opinion it's cruel to have children at a ridiculously advanced age, knowing that they'll be orphans around age 10 or so.
Blah yeah. I'm such a dork.
No, you didn't. I know what you were saying. :)
If they care that much about an heir couldn't they have adopted and passed their name on? Obviously their brains aren't that great, if I was that fucking stupid and selfish I wouldn't want to make babies just like me.
That angers me. I grew up without a dad cause he died at age 54 when I was 9. Granted his death was fairly young, but he died of good ole' fashioned cancer, not a car wreck or something.
The idea of having a kid and KNOWING you won't survive to raise the thing...as a half-orphan myself, that angers the shit out of me.
A perfectly absurd example of human vanity.
Not to mention that they went into debt for a son, which has fucked the financial situation even further.
This reminds me of a story someone told me. A friend said that he met a girl from China whose Chinese name was "Hope for a brother." I hope that he was bullshitting me.
Im surprised a woman of that age could go thru a pregnancy and child birth, surely it would have put tremedous strain on her physcially.
Im not understanding it from a biological perspective either. If u have been thru menopause how can u get pregnant even with in vitro? Please enlighten me someone.
^^^ When you go through menopause, you stop ovulating and menstruating.
In vitro aids in transplanting fertilized eggs into the woman that her body no longer produces.
