Does anyone else get really nervous when meeting new people?
or just not like talking to them ? you know? I posted an ad on craigslist as a nanny to watch someones child and have received a few responses from mothers wanting me to watch their child. So when they ask me to meet up with them I just don't know what to do, I freak out! /:O
I don't understand I wasn't like this when I worked at the club, but in "real" life I freeze up, especially with women . Bleh

Why the fuck did I post this in picture post?!!! Sorry mods please move
Re: Does anyone else get really nervous when meeting new people?
completely! I always prefer e-mail and text to phone calls (to people I don't know.) I love when you can make appointments online. :P
I hate social situations where I only know nobody or just one person too.
I'm about to do a weekend bachelorette party thing in Las Vegas and I have to spend all weekend in a hotel suite, partying it up with 4 strangers. I know the bachelorette from college, and she knows them all from law school and work.
So that makes me panic even more. All lawyers! and me. :(
Re: Does anyone else get really nervous when meeting new people?
I get nervous meeting new people that I think are attractive, people that seem normal and not perfect I feel completely comfortable.. very weird.
Re: Does anyone else get really nervous when meeting new people?
sad but alot of times if i am gonna be in a social situation and dont know many people ill have a drink before hand...
if im going on a date(not that i date now since i have a bf) but when i dated i always used to have a drink to loosen me up...
i also used to get nervous in school/college. Walking into a classroom made me so nervous(and no back then i didnt drink to looosen me up!)
i also sometimes get nervous walkin past a big group of people or going into movie theatres kinda makes me nervous if im getting there late and all the seats are almost taken and everyones lookin at you...
ugh im a hott mess sometimes.
Re: Does anyone else get really nervous when meeting new people?
*raises hand* It makes me VERY nervous.
Re: Does anyone else get really nervous when meeting new people?
I don't get nervous, but people often have really strong reactions towards me on first meeting and it often means trouble. Case in point- the first time I met a local club booker, I could tell from the look on her face she didn't like me. Naturally, it went sour from there.

Re: Does anyone else get really nervous when meeting new people?
The type of situation you are describing is like a job interview situation which MOST people find somewhat nerve racking. So I think that's pretty normal. I have experienced dry mouth, sweaty hands and shaking at job interviews.
Re: Does anyone else get really nervous when meeting new people?
Absolutely, yes. People expect everyone they meet to be full of smiles and small talk, and I just can't do that. I've practiced my fake smile in the mirror, but it still doesn't look right. So I'm afraid I come across as being unfriendly or a jerk in person.
I've had total strangers at a store ask me "What's wrong with you? Why aren't you smiling?". Then I have to stop and think of an appropriate response to such a stupid question. I even steer clear of the employees because they always stop me and ask if they can "help me find anything." I love going to garage sales, but dread being the only one there and getting stuck talking to the owner.
I've posted before about SAD, which makes everyday interactions difficult. I usually do okay in a normal, anonymous crowd, but being packed in with a lot of people or worse yet- with just one other person- is extremely nerve-wracking. I especially hate getting a haircut and having to make conversation, or running into someone I knew from school and having to make up a story about what I'm doing these days.
To be honest, even posting here isn't easy for me. I read the forum for about two years before getting the nerve to post (in a thread about SAD, in fact). At least I can carefully re-read my post 20 times, just to make sure I didn't accidentally say something stupid.:)
Re: Does anyone else get really nervous when meeting new people?
^^^oh, I'm pretty good at faking it, at least...obviously
I hate when people out in random public places ask me why I'm not smiling. wtf? Why do I have to have a smile permanently affixed to my face? That's creepy. I just figured it was a cheesy pick up line.

I am totally like you in a lot of what you said. I'm the type of person who usually double checks all of my texts, etc. I find it really scary to apply for jobs. Like I'll be shaking when I hand in my application & sometimes they just give me a look like "What the fuck is wrong w/ you?". I'm pretty sure I have SAD.
Re: Does anyone else get really nervous when meeting new people?
I get nervous in this type of situation, but to just go and meet random people I do really well at. I guess I still do well in interviews, but I feel nervous up until that first hello. After that it's smooth sailing.
Try saying hi to random people when you're out and about...maybe that'll help?!
Re: Does anyone else get really nervous when meeting new people?
I'm not like this at work, but IRL I am very nervous around people I don't know.
