Our (possible) new condo in Daytona Beach!
We put in a bid for this condo yesterday. My husband and I went and toured it in person this past weekend and fell in love. It is literally 2 blocks from the beach, 3 blocks from a mall, and 1 block from a massive waterpark/arcade type place. We can walk or ride bikes just about anywhere we want to go.
There is a hospital 5 minutes down the road I could work at (I'm a nurse). There are 2 bikini strip clubs we drove past that looked nice within walking distance I could work at. There is a row of bars and nightclubs about 2 blocks away.
For the real estate knowledgable people: it's a 2/1 and 864 sq. ft. It was purchased in Jan '07 for $122K but foreclosed on in Oct. '07. It was going for $67K I believe but was knocked down to $49.9K literally the day before we got there to look at it. This is THE time to buy right now! With HOA fees, taxes etc. our payment will only be around $680 a month!!!! As it is bank owned, there is pretty much a bidding war until the bank accepts a contract so we just put a bid in for the full asking price and sent a check for $10K yesterday. There was another offer submitted at the same time as ours, but theirs wasn't a full offer. Since we submitted a full offer and $10K, our contract is at the top of the pile so now we're just waiting to hear back.. I'll keep you guys updated!

Re: Our (possible) new condo in Daytona Beach!
WOW Congrats! Looks like a cute place!
Re: Our (possible) new condo in Daytona Beach!
There is nice tile in the kitchen, and looks like new carpet throughout. I think there is either tile or decent linoleum in the bathroom, I don't remember. We want to take the carpet out of everything but the bedrooms and put in that faux wood flooring. I'm going to probably go with sage green/beige/earth tone colors throughout and contemporary furniture.
We have a 2700 sq ft house here in Texas, so we're going to just sell most of our furniture and belongings and minimize our stuff and move to FL and just get new furniture so I get to start over from scratch! My husband is letting me have free reign of decorating and stuff, I'm so excited :)
Re: Our (possible) new condo in Daytona Beach!
wow cheap!!!!
would it be a vacation house or would you move there permanently?
ETA
nevermind we posted at the same time
why faux wood flooring? get the real stuff! Or bamboo!
Why do you want to move to florida?
Re: Our (possible) new condo in Daytona Beach!
We may get the bamboo.. not sure yet. We want to be near the beach, and my in-laws live near Atlanta so we're a lot closer to them. My parents live here, but my in-laws still have 2 kids living at home (one 17, one 13) and they aren't very well off so it's WAY more difficult for them to come visit us here then it would be for my parents to visit us in Florida.
ETA: The visiting is a big deal because of our 2 year old son. My in-laws only get to see him once a year :(
Re: Our (possible) new condo in Daytona Beach!
I would kill for there to be properties that cheap in S. Fl!! Congrats girly, that is awesome!
Re: Our (possible) new condo in Daytona Beach!
I live about a mile away from there! If its the place im thinking of. How funny. Its cute!
Re: Our (possible) new condo in Daytona Beach!
What an amazing price! I hope you get it.
Re: Our (possible) new condo in Daytona Beach!
Well the other offer was a cash offer, so even though it was lower and we gave them $10K up front the bank took theirs. So, we didn't get it. I'm so bummed out :(

ahhh that sucks. It wasn't meant to be.
In 1990 my parents went to buy a house that was foreclosed on that had another offer on it. They were asking for 69k and my dad didn't really want a house but my mom wanted it and so she asked him how much they should offer. He gave out the bogus number of 25k and.....they got it. WTH.
I know you were set on this one, but you really are the person in control. It sounds awful but there will probably be 3 or 4 other properties there that foreclose. Make sure your relator is on the watch out. You'll find one you like even more, promise!
Re: Our (possible) new condo in Daytona Beach!
I already posed in tha other thread, but I didn't know where the condo you wanted was located. Now I know--and I lived in that area for several years.
Thank the deity of your choice you didn't get it. There are worse places to live in Daytona, that's for sure, but compared to a 2700 sq ft house almost anywhere in Texas, it would have been a serious step DOWN.
I implore you to look outside of Daytona, for your own happiness. And I don't know if you want a family, but I wouldn't raise a dog in that town, much less children.
