Panic Attacks
I had a panic attack today over work.
I have been freaking out all last week about everything. My bf, my apartment, everything.
I started crying and had to leave. As I sit here my chest is still tight, my stomach still is knotted up, and I'm sweating uncontrollably. I'm not shaking or barfing anymore.
I actually like dancing...so why am I freaking out over it? All of the sudden I just felt like I was kidding myself, that I was selling myself short.. that taking my clothes off for strangers was the LAST thing in the world I wanted to do.

Re: Panic Attacks
Aw I am so sorry Aubreyy! I have had that happen to me before at work too -- to a lesser degree -- an anxiety attack, not panic. Anyway it SUX!
{{{HUGS}}}
For what it's worth, I found that I was having anxiety/panic attacks when my heart was telling me to break up with my bf but I didn't want to accept that and was very afraid of doing it. I know you posted in your other thread about being at the same point in your life. I think that once you make a move in the right direction, you will feel MUCH better! I think the anxiety/panic attack is like your higher self forcing you to confront a pressing issue, and also showing you what's holding you back in a very literal way: fear.

Re: Panic Attacks
Oh yeah btw you can get yourself some kava tea (Yogi Tea brand) and that will calm you right the hell down, like a high potency xanax but legal (without a prescription, I mean). or if you have access to a health food co-op you could get a kava kava tincture.

Re: Panic Attacks
i had that thought a few weekends ago. i decided that i was too fucking good to dance and i couldnt figure out what the hell was wrong with me that i'd been kidding myself for so long thinking it was acceptable.
the feeling passed. i was just not happy and stuff at the time.

Re: Panic Attacks
Sorry about what happened to you. I have panic attacks on occasion (about 4 or so a year) but only once at work and it was horrible. I don't do medication for it because they don't work well for me and it's so infrequent. Caffeine can increase the chance of a panic attack so when I'm stressed I avoid coffee, sodas, energy drinks, and so on. Alcohol can also increase the chance, even one drink may help you to calm down but it can cause a slight change in blood pressure which can help bring on a panic attack.
If you usually don't have panic attacks at work, I wouldn't worry too much about the why. When you have a lot going on in your life, sometimes it's that tiny little extra touch of stress that pushes you over (best example was when I was having lots of problems in my life a few years ago, so I decided to fly out to see a really good friend and take a vacation, after I got off the plane I realized I forgot my cell phone at home and that was the last bit to push me over even though it wasn't really a big deal at all).

Re: Panic Attacks
I get them when it seems like I have a lot on my shoulders. It's common and it's awful when it happens - especially when you are at work.
I agree with the Kava - it's hard for me to find out here for some reason. So I take Klonopin, not for everyone of course, but I use it sparingly and it works for me right now. I also cut down on alcohol, caffeine (when I can), get more sleep, etc.

Re: Panic Attacks
I'm sorry, hun. I suffer from panic attacks, too, and take Klonopin for them. I had a really bad one ITC during my last shift on Sunday because there were only 6 customers the WHOLE night, and I had to stay... needed the cash. I left with more cash than I came in with... but I was freaking out and so were the other girls. We had never seen the club that dead before EVER. My chest is still pretty tight, too. Usually when this happens, I know my body is telling me that I need to get extra rest. Which is exactly what I plan on doing today.

Re: Panic Attacks
xanax works wonders for my panic attacks.
I've had them at work before. The last time was when they were installing a new sound system and the bass was way off. And on top of it all the newbie dj had the sound up a lot more than normal so the bass was rattling the mirrors on the walls. I could feel my heart beat in time with the music, got freaked and had a panic attack. I ended up leaving the club early. That sucked.

Re: Panic Attacks
I'm going to try and go back tomorrow and see how it goes.
I got the tea, so I'm going to wake up a little early, drunk some tea, and give myself a long time to get ready so I can go in feeling great.

Re: Panic Attacks
^^^Let us know how that works - I would never think of using it for work since I heard it can make you sleepy.
I COMPLETELY agree with the other girls: bf issues have made me ball at work, debt can freak you out and make you anxious/jittery, anything that is significantly "off" in your life can make it fell IMPOSSIBLE to work. And... unfortunately, I am not good at pretending that I am happy when I am plagued by an outside life misery, unless I'm drunk ... which obviously is a terrible method to use for coping at times like these.

Re: Panic Attacks
I also get panic attacks.. I need to get bk on Xanex or Ativan. This is gonna sound bad, but when I was on one or the other I was making alot more money just b/c i wasn't taking so many panic breaks (and no not just for stripping- im like that in any job where I have to think on my feet and not do the same repetitive thing over and over).
