grrrr...kinda a rant and a lil long
Okay I just got off work and am still trying to figure this one out. It's more ranting a little but I don't know really how to describe it.
My last set of the night I was dancing to techno with some girl named Duchess on stage 2 (will explain this one in a bit). The guys aren't really tipping but that's okay I'm having fun. I look over to stage 2 and Duchess is laying on the floor doing nothing...just laying there like a dead fish. She laid there for at least 2 minutes and didn't get back up till our dj called for the next set. Personally I think it's tacky to just lay there. At least stand up and walk around the pole. I refrain from saying anything to our managers and end up waiting till after work.
I say in the DR that I loved everybody but laying on stage just looked tacky and it would be better to stand up than lay down. I DID NOT say any names someone asked and someone else popped off with "you know she's talking about Duchess" and I said "I never said any names I just wanted to say it to everyone and not single anyone out". Well someone started joking a little bit and Duchess started getting really bitchy saying her name was to never be said out of the other girl's mouth again and started getting nasty. The other girl popped off and told her a few things but got calmed down by one other dancer.
Duchess then proceeds to start mocking God and where was He and to come around and get her and protect her. She was being so sarcastic I just moved back and said to a friend I'm hoping lightning doesn't strike (to note on this we say a prayer at the end of the night; everyone joins in and those who have a different belief don't have to say it. she kind of insulted us on that).
She comes at me right before we leave the DR and tells me to tell any guy who says that to give her money for a new car, a new house, etc and I'm like "no guy said that. I'm saying it just looks tacky and unprofessional to just lay there." At that point our dj walks in and Duchess says she wasn't laying there. I said you laid there for half of the second song. She says its part of her stage show. Dedric (the dj) says yes you were and no it's not. Duchess pops off with well why was she watching me and not dancing? She shouldn't have been watching me. Excuse me? I look around the whole club while I dance and it's really hard to miss what looks like a beached whale just laying on stage.
Dedric said some stuff that I couldn't hear and then she pops off with how guys always talk about how several of the girls look like whores (none of which do) and that no wonder you made 4 bucks because your eyeshadow is messed up (okay i just rubbed my eyes at the end of the night and peeled the glitter liner off but I sure didn't make $4 tonight). She then proceeds to tell me how some guy tonight said I looked like a horse and asked if I was a man! I'm sorry a mofo must be blind to even remotely think I look like a man.
Heres the catch on all this though. Duchess is a big girl. She does not wear any make up. She doesn't dance. She doesn't take off her top. She does is talk to custies and even then doesn't make any money. At times she doesn't even do that. She looks more like a man and if she didn't have extensions I would wonder but I know better. She's telling me I look like a horse? Good grief...some people are just crazy. I'm thinking she's saying some of that crap just to get a rise out of us and that noone really said it.

Okay, I mean this nicely... mind your business. If she's a fat whale, why are you so worried about what she does on stage? It's the managers job to manage the club, if he has a problem, let him handle it. It sounds from your story that you weren't trying to solve anything. If you were you would have talked to her alone. It sounds like you were picking on her and had all the girls and the dj jump on your bandwagon. "I'm not saying any names, but somebody did x y and z!" is really childish. It sounds like she doesnt 'fit in' already. Unattractive as a dancer and she doesn't have the religious bond that you and the other girls have. Why are you trying to alienate her more over a bad choice for HER stage?
I know this is your rant, but imo, you're wrong. Maybe you could have found a better way to handle the situation?
hugs & kisses,
Gabrielle

I agree. I'm an ULTRA newbie, but I saw something really off-limits on my last shift, and just kept it to myself. I'm there to just make my $ and go home. Whatever the rest of the dancers do, is their thing.....let them lose their job if they aren't doing what they are supposed to do (or doing much more than they should).
Re: grrrr...kinda a rant and a lil long
The religion thing would have me changing clubs faster than anything. I'm Wiccan and really dislike the whole group Public prayer thing at my workplace or school.
I feel like the only reason it is done so publicly, at least here in the south, is to alienate people who don't share the same belief system.
I learned a long time ago never critisize another dancer inside the club anywhere to anyone for any reason...it creates drama. People that feel alienated and critisized can be unstable. If she is working at your club then management hired her for a reason, regardless of her size.
The top girl here at my club never "appears to actually work", sometimes she just sits, sometimes she just walks around, but the money she makes all the while doing nothing but walking drunk like all over the stage (she doesn't drink), make her tons of money, even on nights she doesn't do lapdances. It is hard to miss the piles of cash when at the end of the night we are cashing in and paying out.
Re: grrrr...kinda a rant and a lil long
I agree with minding your business. Not to protect this girl, but just to keep your own stress levels to a minimum. Next time she does something that you feel makes the club look bad (or whatever), don't say anything to anyone because even without "naming names" it's going to turn into a dramalicious clusterfuck because just like this, everyone will know who you are talking about and some people will always want to make it into a big deal. You can come and rant here instead!
Re: grrrr...kinda a rant and a lil long
rule of thumb : if it doesnt effect you directly dont worry about it. its not ur problem. if shes up there looking tacky. your gonna make more money cause you dont look tacky.
Re: grrrr...kinda a rant and a lil long
What kind of a club are you at where all of the strippers gather around and say a prayer? I always assumed most strippers were athiest. What would you say? "Forgive us father for we have sinned..."
Re: grrrr...kinda a rant and a lil long
Pick your battles. Concentrate on making your own money. You're going to see people in ANY profession acting unprofessional. It's part of life. Concentrating on someone else's shortcomings or issues is just going to fill you with negative energy--the opposite of what you need in order to make money.
Re: grrrr...kinda a rant and a lil long
Maybe praying at work is an Arkansas thing? That sounds kinda bizarre though.
And ya, let her lay on stage, who cares, it probably makes you look better and will make you more money. I love it when other dancers look stupid.
Re: grrrr...kinda a rant and a lil long
I'm not picking on you, Fanta but I agree with the others. While reading your post, I got the impression that you were starting in on the girl. If she was just laying on stage, she was probably in a bad mood already. Picking on her made it worse.
Just be happy that you're making money. If she is in such a foul mood that she doesn't feel like making money and just wants to lay around on stage, let her stew in her own juice.

Can't you just say your own prayer? Why do religious people feel the need to alienate anyone and everyone who doesn't believe what they do? Even if one girl felt differently, it would be a fucked up thing to do in a strip club dressing room. *suddenly hears the sound of dueling banjos*
Re: grrrr...kinda a rant and a lil long
I have to agree with what everyone else said...this whole mess of drama could have been avoided if you didn't feel the need to concern yourself with what the other dancer was doing on stage. Don't worry about what other girls do, and CERTAINLY don't comment on it. All you'll succeed in doing is making a more hostile work environment for yourself.

I agree. It's alienating.
Re: grrrr...kinda a rant and a lil long
I agree with everyone else. Mind your own business is a cardinal dancer rule and this can be a lesson to you to do just that. I know sometimes I find it hard to help myself from saying stuff, but in the long run it will be better for you.
