I finally got ahold of the mantis breeder in Portland that we bought him from. Apparently what I have is a unicorn mantis like
this guy, and he's a rare species. The little critters he's eating are wingless fruit flies and he should be eating about 15 of them per week. I have an intern bringing in a terrarium for him tomorrow, so we'll put some sticks and leaves in it and he can stretch out a bit. I'm starting to really like him and I might just keep him!
I kept the three goldfish we used for
Me & You & Everyone We Know, but they died a few days later from the trauma they suffered while filming (riding around on the hood of a hot car in Van Nuys in July). "No animals were harmed," shyeah.
The baby turkeys from a show a few years ago were fun to play with, but I didn't keep them. I love it when set animals wind up in the office. But I totally want to keep this praying mantis. I love that we named him Pope Benedict.
