anybody else have ecxzema? (tips and tricks!)
Unfortunately I have always been prone to getting exzema on my legs. Recently its gotten much better. Just wanted to share some things that have worked for me and maybe get some new advice.
1. Fake nails. I dont know if anybody else has noticed this, but fake nails aren't as sharp as your real nails so if you get the urge to scratch, you don't tear up your skin and cause all those problems like with real nails.
2. Sounds gross, but showering less frequently. I was just up North for two weeks and did all my showering/shampooing/bathing in the lake.....something about the lake water was really soothing to my skin and by the time I got home, my legs looked perfect.
3. Cocoa Butter instead of mosturizer has really made a difference, or just using lotions with all natural ingredients.
4.Shaving my legs every day really makes a difference....I dont know if its the exfoliating or what, but shaving everyday makes my skin nicer.
5. When I start to get exzema (like the red itchy dots come up) I buy a tube of maximum strength cortizone cream (like Cortaid) and apply it all over my legs like mosturizer. It turns white and I just walk around naked for half hour before whiping it all the way in/off
6. Tanning. I know its bad for various reasons, but it REALLY makes my exczema go away.
Anybody else have any advice?

Re: anybody else have ecxzema? (tips and tricks!)
If you buy some 100% unrefined shea butter that will blow your results w/ the cocoa butter out the water! It's very effective for dry or eczema skin

applying layer noxema (no exema) and going to sleep with it on.

Re: anybody else have ecxzema? (tips and tricks!)
i have had horrible excema since iw as little, litterally all the skin would peel off the bottoms of my feet and hands. on fairly regular basis. sometimes i had to walk around with a cane it was so bad (im not egsaturating either) yeah did a lot for my social life in 4th grade let me tell you.
ive almost totally grown out of it now, i only get it on my feet when i have to wear shoes for long periods of time like tennis shoes.
Eucerin makes the best stuff for people with excema. you can get it at any drug store. for so long all i could use was their products.

Re: anybody else have ecxzema? (tips and tricks!)
the lake would have been soothing because it's cool.
1) take cooler showers (since hot water aggravates skin conditions)
2) keep as moisturised as possible
3) look at how many preservatives you're eating (i swear dried fruit does it every time)

Re: anybody else have ecxzema? (tips and tricks!)
Eucerin, Shea Butter & Cetaphyl (the cream) all work great, but what about changing your diet?
I've just recently found out that I'm allergic to wheat and rice products, among other things. It's really hard to put down the bread completely and I cheat from time to time. Coincidentally, that's when I'll get an excema flare-up followed by hiving, and chronic congestion. Claritin-D ain't strong enough to deal with all of this. So, it's bye-bye wheat & rice at least until by body calms down.
My doctor recommended that I take a Pro-Biotic daily to help correct this disorder in my body since I wasn't born with this allergy. Overtime once my immune system restores itself. My sensitivity to certain foods should decrease.
Don't rule out food or lack thereof which may be triggering your skin issues.

Re: anybody else have ecxzema? (tips and tricks!)
VegasPrincess, I don't have eczema, but I have psoriasis...and its pretty much the same. I'm having a psoriasis flare-up as we speak...and its a pain in the ass. I have it on my neck, arm, elbows, and sometimes my stomach.
Like BeBe said, changing your diet could help. I've noticed that when I leave out the junk food and drink more water, my psoriasis tends to ease up a bit.
Also, have you tried tar lotion? Its strong as hell but it works...for me at least. And try Psoriasin too...they have it in gel form and in bodywash. My mom has eczema and it works for her. Give it a try. It'll help some.

Re: anybody else have ecxzema? (tips and tricks!)
WOw I was just pondering this this morning! for those of you who have identified a food allergy as a cause, how did yu work it out? Is there a test that can be done or is it just through trial and error? My daughtr gets it, not very badly but it annoys the heck out of her when it comes, she has really dry skin on her arms to. Do you use a particular type of soap to clean? this black soap maybe?
ETA _ is it African black soap you mean?? I am ebay surfing now...

^^^
For me personally, I know (from doctors tests) that I dont have any food allergies...its enviornmental stuff that sets it off, like I am allergic to wool, different detergents, etc.....UGH
Does she have it all over her body? I only have it on my legs and thats I guess bc of a skin problem, but it only applies to my legs. I have dry skin everywhere, but thats the only place I've ever had exzema or a rash or whatever. If its all over, that may be more of a diet thing

Re: anybody else have ecxzema? (tips and tricks!)
She gets in in her elbows and knees mainly, and sometimes on the tops of her arms, I suspect it might be sweating, its winter here so she's hot and cold going in and out of the class room, and maybe sensitive to detergents. I am using a anti-allergens one, also bought some random fabric softener, lol, which probably negates the purity of the other stuff. I hope its not diet related, my mind just boogles at the thought of trying to cut dairy or wheat out of our diets.
Its flaring up at the moment so I am going to get her some shea butter and a non soap based soap (if you know what I mean) and see if that helps her at all.

Re: anybody else have ecxzema? (tips and tricks!)
I think I get eczema but I havent been diagnosed. I get what I think is eczema behind my knees and in my butt crack.
I put a cortison cream on the breakouts. Also I moisturise a lot.
Thanks for the recommendations about not having hot baths or showers. I always have really hot baths so Ill stop doing that now.
My ex had terrible psorasis and his skin specialist said that people with psorasis should not eat foods that are acidic such as tomatos.

Re: anybody else have ecxzema? (tips and tricks!)
The best kind of black soap I've ever used for the small (but very persistent) bit of eczema I get is Coal Tar Soap. Pine Tar Soap (http://www.drugstore.com/qxp16649_33...e_tar_soap.htm) didn't impress me, and I hated how it smelled. But Coal Tar Soap did wonders for the flaky, itchy, ruddy business on my face. Coal Tar is supposed to like, kill species and degrade the ozone or something. But it was sooooo good for my stupid scaly face.
Learn about coal tar here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coal-tar
...Oh look, it doesn't kill species or degrade the ozone. It only causes cancer. That I can live with. All sorts of good shit causes cancer.

I use African black soap and it's very good. The kind you should buy should look like this:http://i24.ebayimg.com/01/i/02/a6/3f/d7_1_b.JPG
Try to buy "fair trade" that means the people who actually made it in these poor villages are the ones getting paid. Remember, black soap is not 'black' it looks like the above picture. http://www.stripperweb.com/forum/eba...ayphotohostinghttp://cgi.ebay.com/TRADITIONAL-AFRI...=1218609755537

I wouldnt' say sloughing off the eczema, but it has beneficial ingredients in the soap. it has anteseptic properties too. This soap is so gentle even babies can use it. You can use it as a shampoo even. I use both african black soap AND 100% unrefined shea butter.
I got this little bit from a website: For centuries, both the Ghanaians and Nigerians of West Africa have used African Black soap to help relieve acne, oily skin, clear blemishes and various other skin issues. African Black soap has also been used to achieve beautiful skin. Africans have also used this natural soap for bathing and washing their hair. It's excellent for removing make-up too. Black soap will leave your skin silky soft and clear. African people also use Black soap to rid the skin of rashes, ring worm, measles, and body odors.

No it's not hard at all. It's actually pretty soft. Like, after you use it you need to either keep it back in it's baggie or dry it thouroughly. If you leave it out, the moisture can make you run out of soap faster. Does that make sense? I'm trying to find the right word..i'm sleepy /ck rubs her eyes/

Re: anybody else have ecxzema? (tips and tricks!)
I used to get it on my hands really bad. I think it was from the constant baths and self tanning cream and washing my hands way too much. The only thing that helped was prescription steroid cream from the dermatologist. I would sleep with the steroid cream on with non latex gloves on to keep the cream on my hands. He recommended that I used cetaphil as a daily moisturizer. It took awhile but it finally went away.

Re: anybody else have ecxzema? (tips and tricks!)
If you have excemea, I'd look into food intolerances (not allergies):
***dairy
***yeast/candida
* gluten
* fructose/sugar sensitivity
Do any of you excema sufferers consume dairy in any form? Do you have a problem with yeast infections?
