Gymnasts, pervs, and the Olympics
;D
On another messageboard I frequent, one of the guys made a comment about the American gymnasts' asses. Some of the girls were outraged that he would say such a thing about 16-year-olds. They think that 16-year-olds are children and that it is creepy to think about them in any kind of sexual way. I couldn't get on board with that opinion. To me, 16 is pretty much an adult. Obviously I wouldn't be ok with 30-something men actually dating a 16 YO, but I can't get worked up about them thinking they have nice asses. What do you guys think?
Also, who watched women's gymnastics last night? I never watch that stuff until the Olympics, but I'm always amazed at the awesome things those girls can do. I felt pretty bad for the American girl who kept fucking up. That had to be a horrible feeling. But overall, I think a silver medal is still pretty damn good. They could have been a little bit better sports about it though. I thought it was shitty that one of them kept calling their team "the best in the world" even though they just lost to the Chinese.
Thoughts, opinions........?

Re: Gymnasts, pervs, and the Olympics
I disagree with the current mindset that teenagers are little children, asexual and undeveloped, until their 18th birthdays, at which point they miraculously turn into adults at the stroke of midnight. It's ridiculous. They begin to develop sexuality in their early teens and gradually become adults at some point in their twenties. 18 is an arbitrary number chosen by the government for voting rights and property ownership. It doesn't make them little kids at 16.
I think it is perfectly normal for a grown man to check out 16-year-old girls. Obviously he shouldn't act on anything or manipulate them into sexual situations, but there's no harm in looking.

Re: Gymnasts, pervs, and the Olympics
I think it's pretty damn disgusting. Not because I think there is a majical age at which this becomes ok..... Mainly because most of the gymnasts look MUCH younger than the majority of 16 yr olds. They look like a lot of 11 and 12 yr olds that are just starting to develop.
The 16 yr olds I see at the mall that look 30ish, I completely understand men thinking they have nice asses.

Re: Gymnasts, pervs, and the Olympics
I was actually rooting for Russia in women's gymnastics. :shhh:
And pretty much rooting against China for everything, just b/c they made it so clear that their goal is to win more medals than the US. :P I think it's hilarious when people talk trash and make a point of announcing how they're going to trounce their opponents...and then they fail. Like the men's swimming relay. The French kept making boasting comments about how they were for sure going to beat the US, and then they lost by a fraction of a second.

Re: Gymnasts, pervs, and the Olympics
Isn't it odd that 200 years ago a young man was apprenticed into a trade at 12 and became a journeyman at 16. Then at 16 years he was considered an adult and all adult things were required of him. Course life expectancy was frighteningly shorter then. A young woman unmarried at 16? Everyone would wonder what was wrong with her or that there was a poor dowry. Skip to the present day with our modern medicine and considerably longer life expectancy. Will we someday punish people for their thoughts on another gender under 25; when life can be expected to last 140 years? The biological imperative to mate has not kept time with technological advancement. Outside of industrialized first world nations it is still common for teens to be married and to conduct themselves as adults with all the responsibilities and consequences that entails.

Re: Gymnasts, pervs, and the Olympics
Biologically they are ready to procreate and so it is normal that men would be attracted to them. Now if they actually had sex with them, I might feel differently.
On a side note, my club has a huge big-screen and they were playing the Olympics with the gymnasts. I didn't like that too much.

Re: Gymnasts, pervs, and the Olympics
I think it might be in bad taste to talk about it, like sexualizing 16 year olds verbally in public. But I don't think it's gross to check out their butts.

Re: Gymnasts, pervs, and the Olympics
You put form-fitting costumes on female curves, whatever the age, and worry if men a few thousand miles away might appreciate it too much.
If there were a clothing malfunction on one of these ladies, I bet a broadcast network or website owner could be fined or otherwise prosecuted for publishing underage nudity.
We live in a strange world.

Re: Gymnasts, pervs, and the Olympics
I agree. If they were making comments like that about 12 year olds though, then it would be fucking gross. And I think it's also kind of gross for much older guys to lust after 16 year old even if they are pretty much adults at that point.

The problem I have with this is they are little kid curves, not female curves. Hell, me and most of my classmates had more curves at 10.

The gymnasts look younger than 12.
BTW - Sorry guys I have a majpr problem with this kind of shit because of family crap and am drunk now because my aunt is being dissconnected tonight.

Re: Gymnasts, pervs, and the Olympics
i was looking at the last little chinese gymnast doing her beam - she looked about 5 years old.
thing was, just when they announced the gym was coming up, my husband said, "sweet, the gymnastics is always a good place to check out toe".
i said, "they're like, 12". he actually felt a bit silly when he saw how young they looked.
even the older ones look younger. they do have fabulous non-saggy butts though - from a chick's perspective (and abs, and and and....)
perving on the dudes now... different story... biceps...

The Chinese ones do, definitely. But I haven't yet been watching the Olympics much, just a few highlights here and there.

Re: Gymnasts, pervs, and the Olympics
The creepy thing about it isnt their age, its the age they look. Yeah, gymnasts at that level tend to be VERY skinny/undeveloped. I was always amazed to find out how old they were because they never seemed to look older than 13-14.
I'd be REALLY creeped out at guys acting on it, but looking is natural. I'd rather htey were looking at NORMAL 16 year olds, not borderline pedophiliac looking ones.
I LOVE gymnastics though. T hat and Ice Skating have been the only sports i was ever interested in.

The American gymnasts very much look their ages. They pretty much all have some curves and they certainly do have asses, lol. Not one of them looks 12. And I don't think they look too skinny or underdeveloped. They look like normal teenage girls to me.

Re: Gymnasts, pervs, and the Olympics
Considering China is a country where female fetuses are pre-emptively aborted, I think gawking at the teenaged gymnasts there is a lame faux pas- silly stuff.
The American team looks better than others since Americans are from a larger, more diverse, and better fed gene pool. No subsisting on borscht or weird ground up worm protein supplements for those girls! * Go America! *

Re: Gymnasts, pervs, and the Olympics
I was a gymnast and yeh i think it's disgusting grown men checking out 16 year olds asses. But doesn't surprise men coz most men are fucking perverted.
-
Re: Gymnasts, pervs, and the Olympics
Well, I'll retract a bit. I've watched some of the men's gymnastics, not the women's. (Lady Z likes those muscled types, too, lemme tell you.) If we're talking little-girl looking, yeah, but that's not what I was seeing in my mind's eye.

.
Herein lies the problem. The gymnasts are mostly under five feet tall and pre-pubescent looking, hence the creepiness factor for guys ogling them.

That's about what my body looked like at 8-10. My cousins daughter is about that developed now and she turned 9 last week. I'm really not seeing how any of them look more than about 12-13 body-wise (and thats being generous) and sadly, yes, they do look more developed than many of the other countries teams.
Actually I just noticed the one blonde does look 13-14, but she is the only one.

Re: Gymnasts, pervs, and the Olympics
Well, at what magical, arbitrary age would you say it is a problem? 15? 14? 13? 12? 11? If an 11 year old has a B cup, is she fair game for leching on?
I don't think that thinking that 16 year olds should be separate and dare I say, even protected from the lechery of old guys means that we think that they are asexual beings that only physically mature on their 18th birthday. Similarly I don't think having breasts (or not having breasts) necessarily indicates great physical maturity.
As for the age of majority being arbitrary - well, yeah. It is, for all purposes to which it is put, not just sexual ones. I mean there is no magical age at which people suddenly "turn mature". But we still need one if we plan to treat children as different from adults at all.
The last time I watched gymnastics I was a teenager, and they were between 12 and 16.
-
Re: Gymnasts, pervs, and the Olympics
I didn't say they shouldn't be "protected from the lechery of old guys." I just said it's normal for a guy to look. A dude checking out a girl's ass on TV does not harm her in the slightest. And I think the vast majority of adult men can handle the concept of "look but don't touch."

Re: Gymnasts, pervs, and the Olympics
Yeah, I was going to say that earlier. It's a convenience of law-making to define ages. No, the day after I turned 16, I wasn't able to drive better than the day before, or drink better at 21+1 than 21-1, or vote more informed at 18+1 than 18-1, but that's how laws work.
The appreciation of the human form isn't something you can switch off or on, pending verification of age. If I see a nice-looking girl with womanly attributes in form-fitting clothes, I'm going to think, "she's cute," or, "gosh, nice figure." If someone is objecting to my mental reflex there, well, sorry. I think there's bigger things to worry about in the world.
BUT if I'm watching a young lady and thinking, "I'd like to see her out of those clothes," then I ought to get therapy. If I say that out loud, then someone ought to call the authorities.
The difference is clear to me.
