What affects your money the most?
Just something I've been mulling over lately...it seems like a lot of girls (including me!) are always chasing the golden ticket in some other city. When I worked in MD, everyone would talk about how great the money in Philly was. When I worked in Philly, all anyone would ever say was how much it sucked and how there was so much more money in NYC. The girls from NYC, of course, would say how hard it is to make money in NYC and how (insert other club in other state) was so much better. Same in Vegas...everyone everywhere else talks about it like it's a mecca, but when I was in Vegas there were tons of girls complaining and saying it was so much better back home (and "home" was a lot of different places).
I've always believed on an intellectual level that your money depends a lot more on you, and very little on which city you're in. But I guess on a deeper level I didn't really believe that, because I chased the golden ticket as much as anyone else, if not more so.
Then I really thought about it, and realized I've made exactly the same amount of money in every club in every city I've worked in. I've worked in places that were touted on SW and IRL as gold mines, and I've worked in cities where the overwhelming majority opinion was "horrible, no money, terrible customers, worst place to work in ever, omg whatever you do don't go there".
I've also walked out of the same clubs with $20 in my pocket one night and $800 the next. I can look at my earnings log and see that the times where my money dropped off really badly always coincided with the times when I was in a bad headspace and feeling really negative (either about dancing or some other aspect of my life, or having body image woes.)
Do you think it's mostly due to external factors ("tonight's just a bad night" or "there's no money in this city for clean dancers") or internal factors ("I had a positive mindset and was on my game, so I banked tonight" or "My money depends primarily on me; I can bank wherever I am")?
Which do you think matters more to your income? Is it who you are or where you are? No copping out and saying "both" :P Obviously both factors have SOME influence. But which do you think has the MOST influence on how much money you earn?
We're assuming here that within your city, you're working at a club that fits you. Also, I'm not talking about extremes. I'm not talking about the few cities where $100 a night is standard, or about bottom-of-the-barrel hellhole clubs...or about dancers that are way at either end of the looks spectrum. I'm talking about your standard pretty girl, decent club, average city. And I guess I'm not talking about rural areas either, b/c I have no experience and no perspective on anything but urban areas.
Anyway, that's my ramble, and I'm curious to hear what you think.

Re: What affects your money the most?
100% external factors for me. Whether or not my club has customers walking through the door or not.

I don't know, but I like pie.

Re: What affects your money the most?
Mostly internal factors, meaning my mood. I can be my own worse enemy sometimes, going in with a negative attitude is usually reflected in my earnings.
-
Re: What affects your money the most?
its a bit of both. but I think mostly its how I'm feeling... if I'm in a good mood.
If I'm having a good time it seems easier to make money... and I feel hot that night it helps. But if I'm working on a night that only 5 guys come in in 5 hours then it's not me... its the fact that business is slow that particular day. But as dancers we all know there will be good and bad nights. If I look at it in a general aspect then I say the money we make is mostly affected by internal factors.
p.s. thank you for saying "affect" and not "effect" it irks me so much when people confuse the 2.

Re: What affects your money the most?
Majority of the time it is external for me. If the club isnt busy or the cutomers arent spending, no matter how hot I look and feel I will leave without the money I want.

Re: What affects your money the most?
Where I work, for sure!!! :(

Re: What affects your money the most?
External I guess that's the closest thing. What affects my money the most is being the "type" the spending customer is looking for.

Re: What affects your money the most?
Well I do thing that confidence is key, when my nail/hair are not done I don't feel confident I rarely make money; If I work out I feel even better there for I make more money.... It's all about shifting your thoughts and thinking positively.

I'm going to agree.
It doesn't matter if the club is packed - if the customer is looking for a certain type of dancer of 'just drinking' getting money out of them is like squeezing water from a rock. My mood is irrelevant.

Re: What affects your money the most?
I think internal factors affect me the most. Like you, I've made about the same no matter where I have worked. I've made money on dead nights and I've gone home with $100 on a busy night. For me, it all depends on my mood and how I'm feeling about myself. When I'm on, I can make money anywhere, even if there are only two guys in the club.

Re: What affects your money the most?
Though I haven't worked anywhere outside of my home club, I could reasonably assume that external factors can certainly constrain my money to an extent. However, how I do relatively (compared to everyone else in the club/area) depends almost entirely on my hotness, hustle, and mindset.

Re: What affects your money the most?
i don't know. i think it's mostly cyclic. for instance:
if it's a bad time of the year, the economy sucks, clubs are slow and customers are cheap... eventually it starts to effect your mood/mindset. even if you try like hell to be completely objective, it's still effecting you on some level, and that in turn effects your hustle.
OTOH,
if it's a good time of the year, customers are plentiful, money is being spent, then you're more likely to keep a positive outlook and come across as confident.

Re: What affects your money the most?
internal factors.
my best nights have been when the club is dead and i'm in a great mood.
-
Re: What affects your money the most?
Okay so we can't say both, so I have to say external has been one of the biggest factors for me. Some of my best nights are when I look a hot mess and am in a bad mood, but club and CITY have had a huge effect on my money. I know I had a hard time switching to a VIP hustle last year when I came back to dancing, but I am mystified as to how people make money in Philly. Maybe I just jive better with NYC, and I know I'm happier but even with it being August and being forced to work slower days (because I'm new) NY has not been the sucking horror that PA was to me.

Re: What affects your money the most?
hmm. that's a hard question, so i'm not voting. lol.
on one hand, i could be totally on my game, in the best mindset, looking great, etc, and there could be no spending customers or no customers at all.
on the other, it could be packed and i may not be doing well for internal reasons.
i truly think its a toss up.

Re: What affects your money the most?
having hearbeats attached to wallets walking through the door would be great....
-
Re: What affects your money the most?
Definitely internal. I make SO much money and tips because I'm a cheeky fuck.
-
Re: What affects your money the most?
i think it's a bit of both.
i know at my "home" club i was one of the top earners. my first round in vegas was like hitting a brick wall but i was coming from a state with no contact so vegas took some getting used too.
i also didn't know the in's and out's of vegas clubs since i traveled there alone. i didn't know i had to bring a stash of $ in to pay off floor people in addition to house fees.
the very different external factors can start effecting you internally as well, lol.

Re: What affects your money the most?
i think for me, its more external...I worked all over the country, and there were some places where you just couldn't bleed money out of men no matter what. I do think there are some pockets of the country where you can't make more than $200 no matter what, due to the regional culture/laws. I'm also 100% sure that its not me, since I do really well almost anywhere. However if noone in the club is making more than $200 a night, I think its safe to blame in on outside factors. The other thing is, if I'm not in the mood, i don't go to work, so internal factors don't apply to me since if I'm there means I'm in a hustling mood.

Re: What affects your money the most?
Internal, definitely. If I KNOW I look hot, then it translates through my dancing on stage, poise and overall attitude.
-
Re: What affects your money the most?
after thinking about it, i'm leaning towards external. but not based on the city/area, more the club itself and it's policies. the money that i'm making at my club now just isn't available at the club i recently quit. yes i'm in a better place mentally, but the customer base is different, and i pay a flat fee instead of 10/dance. even on nights when ive felt like its really slow or i'm not trying hard enough, ive still made way more than i would have on one of those nights at the last club.

Word. ...And also the QUALITY of the customers. My town is full of fucking cheapasses. Cerously.

Re: What affects your money the most?
I picked internal factors, since no matter how great the club is if I'm having a night where I'm in a bad mood it's just not gonna happen for me. Or it could be slow but I could be in a great mood, feel sexy and make tons off the two customers that happen to be there that night.
However, I always bank when there's that elusive night when it's a just right combination of the two. Oh how I wish there were more of those lol.
